Wondering this myself. Do we have a system worked out for how we're going to do this? I'm eager to get in on the action with this game, but I'll gladly defer myself to the back of the line until invites are plentiful. I work too damn much to be an asset to any team we form, and I'd hate to eat up an invite that others could put to better use.
At the same time, though, I'm looking forward to this game, so I'd still like a late place in the queue.

I meant the dick sucking line from a few pages back :-p
My expectation is the first round will be the people invited and their significant other/butt boy/best friend/clan mate/whatever with precious few "spare" invites to go around. Depending on how Red5 handles things, the second round might be a second small group (and their +1's) which would still leave very few spare invites for us plebians. If, on the other hand, they use a gmail-like invitation system (which they said they planned on doing... but we all know that plans and reality ain't exactly always similar) then we can expect "beta" invites to start flowing pretty quickly. My experience is that most gamers tend to only have one or two *core* people that they are going to favor above all others and you get into "softer" relationships (like guildmates, forum whores, etc) pretty quickly.
I mean, for myself, if I got an invite, my +1 would go to my wife without question. You all are a great bunch of people, but she knows where I sleep; I kinda like doing that (and other bed-related activities) with her. On the plus side, if/when the second batch came, we would then have TWO "free" invites to spread around. And those would almost certainly come to this forum.
If it *were* me with those extra invitations, I'd just go down the list until someone took it. (And I noticed that Robes is on that list, so it's actually one shorter already.)
I'll keep you guys updated on things. As for now, I apologize... I gave my invite to my best friend. He's applying for an in-house tester job posting at the company he works for, and previous experience such as this will help him out. He is not even on that list. But I will make sure that subsequent invites He/I get are going to "The list".
Over the next 2 weeks many more lucky people will be invited to subsequent rounds of our closed beta. Additionally, those invited will receive an invite themselves to pass out to their friends. Look for your email invitation and please know that if you have not received one yet, it's likely to land in your inbox soon!
I nearly jumped out of my seat when I got an email from firefall with 'beta' in the title but it turns out it was just the newsletter. I'll get you next time Red5Studios...
It's nice that we now know the next round of invitations will go out in two weeks, but it doesn't sound like existing invitees will receive additional keys to share.

Not to lawyer this to death (especially since it really doesn't matter - we'll get invites when we get them - and I would *love* to be wrong about this), but all they are saying is that new invitations (ie: "those invited" in subsequent phases) will also get one +1 invitation to give to a friend. Just like the current round of 500 people got one invitation that they could give to a friend.
Our selection is partially based on positive community member activity, and partially at random.
This is the line that annoys me, when I signed up I swear it stated something to the effect that everyone that signed up would have an equal chance of getting in.
It takes me a while to shift from lurker to poster (I like to get a feel for the community first), that and there really wasn't anything to talk about other than wild speculation.
Sorry guys. There's a little bit of mis-wording in that. There is no set schedule for additional invites just yet. There won't be any additional invites sent over the next 2 weeks, but anytime after that could see an additional wave. I'll make an announcement when a new wave goes out. Granted, there are still people that got into beta that haven't given out their invites yet so you may see invites at anytime, just not from us.

I think this means less "people that post a lot" and more "people that know the devs" which may come as a result of posting a lot or through other means. Probably includes certain members of the media and such as well.

How active can one be on a forum for a game that's not even released into full beta yet? They haven't exactly released a whole lot of details to discuss. I can't imagine what would be involved in 'positive community member activity' this far prior to release.
I think they should have left that line out of their wording completely cuz everyone is going to interpret the way they want to, and people are going to end up butt hurt over it.
I just wanted to give you all a heads up of where we're at with the Firefall beta. A lot of people, both inside and outside of the industry, consider beta tests to be purely a marketing effort or a "demo" for the players. This is absolutely not true for Red 5. We have real things that we need tested by real people in order to make sure we can make a great product.
We've had two scheduled tests so far using the Orbital Comm Tower map that we revealed at PAX Prime 2011. The primary goal of these tests was to try out our brand new datacenter for the first time. The first test we found some significant issues in our server scaling that we were able to catch relatively quickly and get most people playing the game. We had a lot of fun playing with so many users for the first time.
The first test also revealed an issue with our authentication system that prevented some players from getting on at all. This is all part of the beta process. We spent some time to fix up some of the major issues and made modifications to the systems before having the second test.
We successfully identified and resolved the issues that happened during the first test, but as with any piece of software, you fix one thing and something else rears its ugly head. We had some pretty big issues with our matchmaking system that caused intermittent issues with getting into matches. We are still going over logs and looking into these issues so that we can fix them before having another test.
Obviously, with these issues, we don't want to simply throw more wood on to the fire. The beta will continue to expand when we need additional people to help test out scale and functionality. We just wanted to give you all an insight into what is happening in beta since the testers themselves are under NDA.
Stick around, we've got a lot planned and some pretty big reveals and projects that we're working on. We really can't wait to share this game with all of you. Thanks for being a part of the Firefall community.

Fingers crossed for another "Burning Crusade" event where I managed to get 6 of the damned things.
And Adda: I did the same thing.

Yup.
2nd RULE: You DO NOT talk about Firefall.
3rd RULE: If the opposing team says "GG", hides in their spawn, or rage quits the Firefall is over.
4th RULE: Only dozens to a fight.
5th RULE: One Firefall at a time.
6th RULE: No LANs, no consoles.
7th RULE: Fights will go on as long as they have to.
8th RULE: If this is your first night in Firefall, you HAVE to fight.
Maybe get you some sweet swag?
