the only problem with suing CCP is that it would be like suing an author for killing a character in their own book. it's CCP's IP you pay them a monthly subscription to use items. isk is a creation of theirs and has no real market value because it does not exist. now if isk was a real thing something you could take into court and say look this is what was taken from me then you have a case but the instant you walk before a judge and say they deprived me of ingame stuff the judge looks at you and laughs you out of court.
All this, plus you are not allowed to convert any in-game item back into cash. When you buy a time-card, you own the equivalent of a gift-card. If someone in real life steals or destroys a time-card, you have legal recourse. However, turning it into a PLEX is converting a real thing into an in game item. CCP has fulfilled their end of the bargain at that point. Everything in the game is fair game to be destroyed by other players or altered (even reclaimed) by CCP.
To draw a poor analogy, trying to sue someone for destroying your PLEX is equivalent to spending $$$ on a nose-job and then suing after your new nose is broken in a sanctioned boxing match.
There is a long line of legal precedent that says you can't sue someone for damages arising from actions that are generally part of a sport or game. If you take a line drive to the face while playing baseball (or even watching it) you can't sue. This even applies to injuries that arise from violations of the rules that aren't egregious (an NHL player can't sue another player for injuries received in a fistfight, though he could sue if you purposefully skated over his face or something).
So, someone blows up your PLEX? Tough shit, it's all part of the game. If they hacked your account or CCP committed wire fraud by taking your money and not giving you what you paid for? That would be different.
God I'm glad you're a lawyer. I don't know why, but in the context of EVE legal action always comes up over in-game things.

It's because EVE encourages douchebaggery of the highest order. But suing someone for scamming you in-game or blowing up your shit would be like suing someone for bluffing you in poker.
EULA's aren't the most enforceable thing in the world. But no court in the world is going to give you redress for losing in a game so long as the person giving you the shaft generally followed the rules of the game (and didn't violate any laws).

I finally shot my first merchi dudes tonight. I think I got Laconfyr in a scorp, Kais in a dictor, and Sherpa was flying a maelstrom. I tried to shoot salvadore, but he was quick enough to warp out before more bubbles went up. GJ on warping into your own bubbles, on top of achmetha, right in all of our titan optimals.
Also thank you to whoever kept primarying me that entire fight. You guys nearly got me into structure at the beginning, but our supers managed to get reps on me fast enough. That fight was a lot of fun though, and the lag was fairly manageable.
As is always the rule in eve:online, you get welp days. Also apparently chris rittenhouse (who we recently let into EO upon the advice of several old IGNE dudes) is/was a spy and gang-warped our caps after the fight. Booted him, now killing his chimera.
part of me which is awful, self-hating, and just apparently completely hateful of me ever seeing the sun again is considering resubbing. i was the idiot in merch who managed to destroy two of their own cruisers and was regged back when goonfleet was in power. i left somewhere around when the ship graphic update happened. So, what's changed since then?

My mistake was warping back to the fight. Was fun, we should do this again.

Ok i'm not currently subbed to EVE so maybe I have no business saying this but:
You obviously don't understand what MerchI is FluffyKitten.
MerchI was created so people who are members of this forum can get together and play EVE. It was not created to welcome people who are essentially total strangers in this forum. Be a member HERE first.
You don't get to join MerchI first, THEN talk on the forum, because MerchI has valuable shit and good friends it would like to keep, and the potential of you being a spy is too large to risk ruining other's fun (subjective of course; people stealing from the corp can be funny depending on the reason/person doing it).
One more time; MerchI is FOR MEMBERS OF THIS FORUM!
If you really aren't a spy then un-sub from EVE (if you can't get into another alliance and high-sec is that bad) for three months and spend that time becoming a decent member of this forum. At the end; you get to spy on MerchI, and we get a half-decent member of the forum. EVERYONE WINS!

Thanks for that. I actually did read the first post on the other EVE thread so I already knew that. And since I don't have a ton of friends elsewhere or even within that many within EVE, I think I will stick around regardless. I haven't been serious on a board in a long while so this could be a nice. I don't really want valuable shit but good friends would be nice - acceptance into MI or not.
Thanks for the welcome! Very EVE-like. Warm and friendly. Makes an accused spy feel right at home.

I really wouldn't know. Mostly as i was in the side that was shooting at you lot.
But, eh, got tired of it eventually. Serious Game is Serious and all that. Might pop back in if/when that whole walking in stations thing actually comes out.

I am uncertain as to why that would be the feature to convince you to play again.

because you are a spy
That would be awesome! Here is my original thread (halfway down) about wanting to join. Any tips you can share would be great. I will PM you later.

For every subtle, cunning spy, there's like six dumb obvious ones. :P

Ahhh, makes sense.
It is a reference to a similar network set up during the invasion of RISE as recorded in ye ole Goonfleet annals of history.

Because i'm a shallow terrible person? Who knows honestly. I just feel i'll likely dip my toe back in again then.
I would pay isk for this
