Not sure what you're trying to do with your Golem, but mine is fit like this:
    goleml4missions.jpg

(What is a TP? It's an acronym I don't recognize, which is why I just gave you my whole Golem fit)

e: That's my Guristas setup btw, I obviously change hardeners and missiles based on what I'm fighting.

e2: Oh, TARGET PAINTERS, derrrr. One, you only need one. You can't spare another mid slot. That screen shot of my fit is actually wrong, I use a faction TP, a Republic Fleet. I recommend that as well, as the effect is a good 5% additive over the best named, and if you can afford a Golem, you can afford a faction TP at 50m.

fit seems a bit off to me, you aren't using HT-bays or fuel caches to boost range D:

most fits i see have 2 TPs, some use 3...
    oh and 4 BCUs.

I just wish there was a decent source of information or a calculator for ship sig and missile hit quotas.

Why on gods green earth would you need MORE range out of CL launchers that already shoot farther than you can lock? That's stupid.

Where are you seeing these other fits? If it's from pubbie high sec empire sources, there's your problem. You can also probably find fits with Capacitor Flux Coils, doesn't make it a good idea.

Why would you need more than one TP? You can't fire at more than one target, and one TP with precision missiles is plenty to hit even small, fast targets. Which you also have drones for.

It's a 600m ISK ship. You fit for tank and sustained DPS. The entire idea behind the Golem and it's huge shield boost bonus is to have a sustainable, high DPS, tank to take in to touch and go L4's.

e: The reason I don't use a fourth BCS is simple: Diminishing returns past the third. The PDS makes my tank cap stable (even when running a pair of invulns instead of single resist hardeners) and adds some shield to my total EHP.

Because it's an L4 mission runner ship? I am half-afk when I run L4's. Cruise Launchers and a huge tank require the most basic of inputs from me. Warp in, make sure tank is turned on, target largest ship, start firing, go back to playing DQ9 on my DS, ????, profit.

the CNR is waaaay better for cruises though due to the CNR bonuses.
and torp golems blast through stuff even faster than cruise CNRs.

The CNR doesn't have the fat tanking bonus of the Golem, which is why I use a Golem even though technically the CNR will do a tad more cruise damage. Plus, using four launchers instead of seven makes using T2 ammo much more cash efficient.

Basically, I'm not going for maximum ISK/hr stuff, I just want to login for a few hours, be half afk looking at website, playing DS, watching TV, whatever, and make money in L4's.

Doesn't do enough for the cost. It adds less than 20 shield/sec moving from T2 to high faction (Caldari Navy/Dread Guristas). I would need to go deadspace to get a serious amount more boost, and I have a strict "no more than one DS item on a non super cap" policy.

    I don't have shield management 5 so I use a Gist B :P

For the torp fit I also use a faction web but I'm in drone space. In the second best anomaly everything does 80% explosive 20% kinetic and sits within 20km, all the BS are within 10km. It's kinda OP tbh but drone poo has dropped a ton in price.

The web is about as big of a dps boost as the TP. I don't think I'd bother with torps if I wasn't in drone land, it's not worth it.

If I was doing L4's I'd fly a HAM tengu, higher damage, about 6 times the speed and double the stationary tank (nevermind after adding speed and size in) of a cruise golem. Oh and less training.

I'm looking at a Tengu, there is no way in hell it has DOUBLE the stationary tank of a Golem at Marauders 4. Even with the same large X-Type booster as my Golem, you're looking at maybe 900 DPS of tank. My Golem has 1200+ depending on the hardeners and what's shooting at me.

The Tengu also does less DPS, and that's rigging for damage, using the + HAM damage module and using T2 rage missiles.

Much of the tank in a Tengu will come from it's small sig, so that won't be visible in eft. You can tank some plexes completely passive with just 1 lse thanks to it's speed.

Some of the potential for increase in dps might also be explained by the lack of a need for a TP and any lost by shooting smaller than BS targets. Not to mention the time having to chase after targets in a mission if they're out of range.

It's all very subjective though. Personally I'm pretty happy in my new Nightmare :P

edit: just saw you said stationary, yeah....no chance in hell for double the tank in that situation.

Even taking sig in to account, we're talking STATIONARY tank, and there is no way it's double a Golem (especially if you stick an LSE on it, as LSE's raise your sig radius, by a lot).

I'm not disputing they can passive tank and are good PVE ships, but lets keep the hyperbole to a minimum. I don't want some poor guy selling off his prize Golem to get a Tengu, only to realize it's not the super boat it's been made out to be.

e: Also, nothing in non-wormhole PvE is ever out of range of cruise missiles. Ever.

But....that Tengu (or any T3 for that mater) will not be stationary. I mean, you can compare stationary tanks, but it's not really a fair comparison.

The Tengu will be moving, so that sig radius tanking will have to be taken into consideration.

Not really, you can train other ship types fairly easily.

In order to train skills you don't already have, you have to buy their skillbook. This confused the crap out of me at first. You know those skill books you get during the tutorial, you have to buy them for other skills. Most of the learning ones are fairly cheap (Learning itself is like 32,000 at Jita, the rest are around 45,000). Caldari Industrial, for example, is about 200,000, give or take. Some of the more valuable skills have their skill books priced in the millions.

Apparently MerchI has a cache of skill books stored up. If you podjump you won't be able to take stuff with you, and it's apparently a real pain in the ass to fly there manually.

Dock up in a station with a medical facility, set clone to MZ1Everybody Loves the WANG. Leave you ship, undock in just your pod and self destruct.

2 minutes later you'll be deep in 0.0 space and then all you need to do is contact Random Gen or Courthouse for skillbooks. We'll set you up with all that you'll need for more than a month of training time, free.

The DPS of a torp golem looks so sexy, but the loss in tank, and the addition in attention span required, create a mental stalemate for me. So I dutifully chug along in my cruise Golem, slowly and steadily (and mosly afk) making ISK.

Your character/account is stored on the Eve servers, not through Steam. You should be able to just go to the eve website and pay for a subscription or plug in a time card code for your account. The only reason to go through Steam is if you are trying to make use of a sale deal there.

    B-b-bingo!

I purchased a copy of EVE Online on Steam for $2 a few months back, hence why I'm trying to get the stupid geese to issue me a new CD Key. That and I don't really have the spare money to upgrade it otherwise.

When you bought the game on steam for $2 that was paying for a new account (you have to pay for every new account). When you used an invite you created a second new trial account and are now trying to upgrade it to a full account. The first account that you bought for $2 is already a full account.

In short, I don't think you can do what you are trying to do.

That however is a fallacy. I recall reading in this very thread of people referring themselves, buying the game on Steam for $2, upgrading the new account with that code, and then getting their 'free' game time. Plus when you choose to manage your account until the Steam interface, the page it brings you to lets you choose either to create an entirely new account, or to upgrade an existing one.

Edit: Seems I finally received a response, though the action likely wont be taken until tomorrow considering they replied at 3 PM and it's now nearly 10 PM. It seems that somehow I accidently created a new account with the CD Key... which is odd considering I'd have known if I did. Regardless, they will apply the 30 free days I would have received to my already existing account. Drake here I come baby!

I spent almost all of my initial 100% training bonus time on drone skills (t2 scout drones, sentry drones, drone interfacing IV) and haven't regretted it at all, even though I don't rat in a Gallente ship anymore. Good drone skills add a decent chunk of damage to any ship with a drone bay; even in the missile-based Drake, ~25% of my theoretical DPS comes from drones currently.

Also, training to Dominix (Gallente battleship) is pretty fast, because you don't necessarily have to train any kind of guns for it. I haven't done that as I'm happy with battlecruisers for now, but several bitter vets in the corp have assured me that the domi is an awesome solo ship for any purpose. And the Gallente heavy assault cruiser, Ishtar, seems to be a really popular PvE ship currently.

It was a bad choice and you should feel bad.

Not really, Gallente are good at PvE, but not so good in major ops. In fact, not a single Gallente ship is requested for main fleets.

But don't worry about it, you can cross train easily enough, and in the interim you have a great ship selection to make money.

By the way, what's your characters name? I looked on the members list when I got a chance to log in today, but didn't know what to look for.
