This board game might be more fun if the computer didn't obviously cheat.
What do you mean? I've played it probably a dozen times now and only lost once. If anything, the computer is fucking stupid. I've won at least one or two games because the computer bought one of my tiles when I was near the "finish" button and the profit bumped me to the "win" score and I won in the next turn.
I think I've won once. The computer never hits my tiles. It magically always gets a dice roll that places it the tile before, or the tile after my tile.
So, about to start this. Damn me being on vacation when it came out then broke after.
Who's story is the most epic that I should save for last?
None of them. Why?
Terra's story is about "OH NOES I HAVE DARKNESS, NOW I CAN NEVER FACE MY FRIENDS" and other related emo bullshit.
Ven's story is "ZOMG OTHER WORLDS LET'S MAKE LOTS OF FRIENDS BECAUSE MY OTHER FRIENDS SUCK! OH NOES THE BAD GUY NEEDS ME TO DESTROY THE UNIVERSE, NOW I CAN NEVER FACE MY FRIENDS" and other related metrosexual bullshit.
Aqua is all "HEY I NEED TO FIND MY FRIENDS BECAUSE THEY'RE MORONS! OH NOES THEY HATE ME FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING, NOW I CAN NEVER FACE MY FRIENDS" and other...okay I lied, I only hate Aqua's voice. Though the...bouncing could make up for it.
Terra's is the story where you facepalm because he's such a moron.
Ven's is the story where you facepalm because his plot arc is hopelessly contrived bullshit.
Aqua' is the story where you facepalm because they could have made the whole game about her but chose not to.
This is exactly why I'm focusing on Aqua first. Ven so far seems too much like Sora, so I'd like something different. Terra seems kinda boring. Aqua, however, is awesomeness incarnate, from playstyle to character and everything inbetween. And I have not been disappointed with her story thus far.

Beginner: Oh, you wanted the secret movie? Well, you'll just have to stop being a baby and play the game properly!

Trudat. I really like Aqua - she's nice and gets shit done, and is actually surprisingly smart for a protagonist (because the norm for protagonists in videogames tends to be "hur the villain would never lie to me" and such :P), and while she starts out really weak, she ends up being basically the fifth horseman of the apocalypse, gameplay-wise.
Terra... yeah, Terra's an idiot. His story is pretty sad, but when I feel a bit bad for him it's usually mostly through this instinctual sympathy that comes from seeing someone not too smart pushed into something waaaaaaaaay over his head.
Though I'll say this - Xehanort's speeches about Vanitas and balance and such may be one of the few times I've seen this plotline be done with slightly reasonable-sounding arguments, instead of the villain basically cackling evilly as he says stuff a five-year old would notice as bullshit. Xehanort pulls it off better than Palpatine, at the very least. Of course, the fact that he couldn't look more evil if he tattooed himself a SATAN ROCKS! inscription on his forehead kills the effect a bit, but still :P
So I beat that fucker of a boss. Some thoughts on Terra's ending..
So let me see if I got this right. Terra makes friends with Peter Pan and then he is somehow transported to Destiny Islands where he meets Sora and Riku, and makes some kind of prophecy with Riku or something? Then he goes to the Keyblade Graveyard where apparently Ven gets his ass kicked, and Terra has his body stolen by Xehanort who turns into...Riku? But WAIT, Terra won't stand for that shit! So after Terra puts the smackdown on Xehanort who looks a lot like Riku, there's some kind of big explosion of light and then fade to black, credits.
Did I get that right? I guess I'll have to play the other two stories, and hopefully it will make more sense, but as it stands that was a very unsatisfying ending. Which is expected I guess, with two other stories, heh.
Ok, so I finished both Terra and Ven on Proud mode, starting Aqua tonight. But first I have a question regarding Ven's ending:
Ok, so what the fuck does Vanitas have to do with Sora really? Hurr hurr has the same face, but what is the actual connection? We see Sora does exist in Terra's timeline since hes running around with little riku on destiny island... so what the hell is up with Vanitus?
Remember that bit at the very beginning with Ventus, on Destiny Islands?
I thought it was that
Ven's heart enters Sora so that he becomes a part him and that includes his dark side Vantitas and would also explain why Sora's nobody looks like Ventus.
I was trying not to give everything away.
Sora's heart first connected with Ven's during the scene I mentioned which would be when Vanitas gained a face behind his mask.
Blarrhghglahghbgl! I keep hearing about how BBS is the most technically thought out and combat-fine tuned KS game ever made and then I KEEP REMEMBERING HOW ITS ON PSP ONLY.
Why do you hate playerbase so, Kingdom Hearts?
Kingdom Hearts 3 had better be on the Wii, or heads will roll.

I thought Xehanort ended up looking more like Ansem than Riku. Peter Pan had nothing to do with any of it though, that was just because it was the last world you did. I think Terra made his pact with Riku so he could wield a keyblade. He uses the keyblade in KH1 at the end right? When he steals it? And then I think he used it a bit in KH2? Seeing as I've also only beaten Terra I imagine Ventus and Aqua will both make pacts with characters too. Anyway, Xehanort was trying to take Terra's body so he could keep on living and then use the keyblade made from Vanitas and Ventus. He would be basically superpowered at that point because he would be in full control of darkness, but have the lifespan to actually use it. However Terra stopped him from taking over his brain, so Terra was left without a body and Xehanort's mind was destroyed. I imagine the explosion came from either Vent or Aqua, because I seriously doubt Aqua's story ends with her being killed by Vanitas.
Actually, who was the Ansem in KH1 again? Because DiZ was the real Ansem, Xemnas was the Nobody, and then there was Ansem. But I'm realizing that Xehanort's whole thing was taking over a body to live forever, and Riku ended up looking like Ansem because he got possessed somewhat. I think I'm thinking about this too much.

The thing is that IIRC Riku in KH1 was actually supposed to be the one Sora's keyblade was destined for, but he was already showing some problematic tendencies vis-a-vis the darkness, so the key said "fuck this" and went for the next best thing - Sora. Terra's little scene worked - Riku would have wielded a keyblade and been able to escape Destiny Islands, if he hadn't pussied out and taken the apparently easy way :P.
And the KH1 Ansem was Xehanort's Heartless, I think, calling himself Ansem. That's why he looked like Terra with Xehanort's eyes and skin tone, I think, but don't quote me on that.

I think you're right on it being Xehanort's heartless. That would make some sense for why it wanted to possess Riku so badly. That was Xehanort's whole thing, and I guess he would've been created after he tried possessing Terra. He did separate himself from his own body after all. If it was created when he possessed Terra then he would've looked like that. Ahhhh my brain is hurting now.
So does anyone want to try doing ad-hoc party with this again? I'm going to have to do all the arenas with Terra anyway and it'll be more fun with two others.

Read the Ansem Reports in KH1. The last one in particular makes it clear Xehanort's Heartless/Ansem SoD was made when Terranort gave up his body to go and do evil stuff. Which was around the time the Heartless nuked Radiant Garden from orbit.
Two hours into Ven's story on Proud, and wow - compared to Terra, Ven is fast as lightening and the destroyer of worlds. This game is so fantastic.

Ven's scenario is just plain easy compared to the others. At least, on Critical you don't have to put up with stunlocks and OHKs for the first two hours.
BBS Final Mix just got announced. So far it looks to be the same as the US version.
Oh for fuck's sake...
HERE WE GO AGAIN. Another secret boss fight and secret movie that ties into KHIII, but we'll get left out of the reference because Square never bothers to release these in the US.
The final boss fight with Terra is a big example, as
he (or his spirit in the armor) showed up as a secret boss in KHII Final Mix, with the exact same boss music played in BbS and everything.
Kingdom Hearts is a series of action-adventure role-playing games developed and published by Square Enix. It is a collaboration between Square Enix and Disney Interactive Studios, and is under the direction of Tetsuya Nomura, a longtime Square Enix character designer. Kingdom Hearts is a crossover of various Disney settings based in a universe made specifically for the series. The series features an all-star voice cast, which includes many of the Disney characters' official voice actors and well-known celebrities such as Haley Joel Osment, David Gallagher, Jesse McCartney, and Hayden Panettiere. Characters from Square Enix's Final Fantasy series make appearances and interact with the player and the Disney characters
This is the part of the thread where I ask a silly question, maybe get an answer, then never post in the thread again.
I see that BBS is the first chronological game. However, is it like MGS3, where even though it comes first, it makes a lot more sense when you play it third?

Well, just beat Terra's story. Final boss was decently hard, and the ending made a relative amount of sense, after some thought, though
it's true that the whole Terra/Terranort/"Ansem deal is really rather more confusing than necessary. I guess that's what happens when you make backstories and plotsout of nowhere after the first game and have to manage them to fit with the already made storyline :P
But after seeing that, it's pretty obvious that indeed "Ansem" is intended to be Terranort's heartless, and Xemnas Terranort's Nobody - Xenahort died here and lost his heart, and therefore created a Heartless and a Nobody. Terra's heart probably got skipped to Kingdom Hearts or something
So, if I'm reading all this right, Master Xehanort = Orochimari ala Naruto? Just... moderatly succesful, and then splitting into two not-selves, who both seem to be a good deal weaker than the origional, and then get their heads handed to them by Sora.
I don't think the whole plot with Terra is all that confusing.
Master Xehanort encouraged Terra to give in to his darkness. And after Terra was tainted enough, Xehanort unlocked his heart and possessed Terra's body. Terra's will possesses his armor and becomes the Lingering Sentiment, defeating Terranort. Terranort is later found by Aqua and defeated again, falling into the Realm of Darkness in the process and losing his memories. Aqua sacrifices her armor and Keyblade to save him. Terranort, now without his memories (except for the name Xehanort and residual memories of Aqua saving him) is found by Ansem/DiZ and adopted as an apprentice. Braig meets Terranort, now Xehanort again, and subtly moves him along the path to finding Kingdom Hearts again. And after that everything proceeds as the previous games have shown.
