I would be pretty confident that it isn't any malfunctioning equipment. I think it is just that the PS3 changes resolutions and such for some games during startup, and has to re-handshake. Some disc-based games do it to me, and some PSN games do it. My DLP in the living room handles the switching really well, sometimes to where I only notice it because the resolution changed from 1080p to 720p (which is what most games want to use for performance reasons). The bedroom TV (a Vizio Internet enabled 32" LCD), on the other hand, does a really bad job of handshaking and takes a while for some games. A few times I have lost the sound (mostly on Sony-published games, which is weird). And one time the TV rebooted because it didn't like the handshake.

Also, anecdotes lol lol.
I get that resolution shake-up too, and so should every else, but I think he's referring to it happening in the middle of a game. That's basically why I think something is malfunctioning.
On subject though: I just picked up Parasite Eve for six dollars over the PSN. The game play is still refreshing, but man, that game did not age well. I always wondered why they didn't continue the series, but after playing it again, I know why.
That still doesn't stop me from wishing that Visceral and Squeenix would team up to do a remake, since it seems to be working pretty well for Deus Ex: III.
Anyone have any recommendations for PSP Minis? I feel like I'd like some quick to play games on the system at all times, anything simple and addictive to suggest?
Also, would it be that hard for Sony to not show the welcome back deal for non-qualified accounts? I mean, it's basically a giant button that goes nowhere for me and if I was a non-informed consumer I'd find it very confusing to see "Welcome Back, click here for 2 free games" only to have it lead to an empty page.

Ah, yes. Now re-reading it, I think you are correct. I was keying in on what jclast was saying, and missed the "occasionally" part, implying that it happened in the middle of a game. Yeah, I would maybe try a shorter, thicker-gauged HDMI cable to test if possible. Still, I wouldn't put it past the TV just being terrible at handshaking, no matter what quality of cable is being used. I love the Internet features and picture quality of this Vizio, but it sometimes locks up or reboots for no apparent reason (except sometimes the handshaking issue with the PS3). And the reboot cycle is terribly long when it does that.
It is baffling to me that TVs can reboot. I've seen it happen, and it still just refuses to be a normal thing to me.
Yeah, it is annoying. The Internet features are cool (Revision 3 shows right on your TV with nothing plugged in, for instance), but the price is that the TV has a buggy OS. Really, the Internet features and OS shouldn't be coupled with the functionality of simply watching TV or using the HDMI ports.
Anyone have any recommendations for PSP Minis? I feel like I'd like some quick to play games on the system at all times, anything simple and addictive to suggest?
Well, There's a Minis Bundle on sale at the moment that has five Minis for $5, which includes Young Thor (which reviewed well, but I got it for the Plus sale for $1.25 and..am just glad I didn't pay full price for it), A Space Shooter for 2 Bucks!, Widget Odyssey 1 and 2, and Zombie Tycoon. I can't speak for the worth of the games, aside from Young Thor, which, like I said, is merely okay, but buying them in that bundle, you're saving about $11. (Young Thor and Zombie Tycoon are $5 each, the rest are $2 each)
So, by the numbers, it's technically a bargain, but you might want to look around for reviews or something to see if they'd all interest you.
I haven't really dipped into other Minis that much myself; just Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess and Dracula - Undead Awakening (got both from a sale a while back) which are, again, just alright. Monsters moreso than Dracula.
So we've got our ps3 hooked up via hdmi. I've been playing way too much ME2 and everything looks great. But when we play some psn games, occasionally we lose signal to the tv. It comes back pretty quick, but it's really obnoxious and only happens with psn games. Anyone else experience this?
I'm 80% percent sure that it's the cable you're using. Make sure its secured, and if its not secured, make sure there's no cut and/or frays along the cable. Cut wires will work intermittently like that if they're still touching. Also, the quality of the cable matters to some extent. More conductive metals carry the signal better, so if you bought the cable at a thrift store, you might have some issues.
If its not the cable, you might want to hook up something to the TV other than your PS3 just to make sure it's not the TV. If its neither of those things, its the PS3.
I might try the other port, but we don't have anything else really that runs HDMI. We do have a different cable, so we might give that a shot.
And this isn't when loading, it's like we're playing Puzzle Fighter 2 and in the middle of a game the signal resets. Or during Critter Crunch last night like 6 times.

Have you tried using the RGB or w/e cables that came with the PS3? Just a thought.

Yeah. There's a way to link your PS3 and TV, if you're using an HDMI cable, so that when you power one off they both power off, and vice versa. It also lets you use the TV remote control to pause Netflix videos, I think.
Anyhow, turning off that setting fixed the video glitching. Then, of course, you can't use the same remote or get them to turn off/on at the same time, but it's a good tradeoff.
I can't remember if the setting was on the PS3, TV, or both. If you can't find a setting PM me and I'll try to figure out what I did.

Just bought Beyond Good and Evil. It'll be the first time I played the game and I am very excited. I've been trying to get my hands on it for a couple of years now.
What do you think of it?
I just got around to playing it today, and...I don't know, the bad camera and controls are still there, the textures are not what I would call "HD", and just other odd things like the audio not matching the timing of the cut scenes.
It's still BG&E, and certainly worth $10; maybe would have paid $15 if that meant more 'polish'.

HDMI-CEC is the feature you are talking about. Older PS3s don't support it. The HDMI-CEC standard is called different things by different TV manufacturers, though, and it didn't always work when it came out unless you bought all of your equipment from the same manufacturer (Samsung TV with a Samsung DVD player, for instance). I think the interoperability has gotten a lot better lately.
Hey guys, I hope you are all having as much fun here in November 2010 as I am. So I just played Pac-Man Championship Edition DX and holy shit what a fun game! You guys should check it out, since it's a brand new release here in November 2010 and that is the time in which we all live!

I bought that along with Space Invaders Infinity Gene a few months ago. I only regret one of those purchases.

I liked Space Invaders okay, there were just a few glaring errors that they should've anticipated/fixed ... too hard to distinguish shit that hurts you from shit that doesn't (bc both can be solid white), and projectiles that you can destroy from projectiles that you can't destroy from enemies (bc all are solid white), ... for an action-y game, there's hella wait between stages, deaths, etc. ... and once you get that one shield-type weapon, everything else is shit.

Alright, a few things here. First off, everyone who doesn't have Free Plus anymore (or regular, I guess) and/or inFamous 2 can now play with everyone else in the Uncharted 3 Beta. However will the servers handle them.
Secondly, the Blog post has the two PSOne Games listed as PSOne Classics, but I'm about 99.99% sure they're PSOne Imports. The difference, of course, being that the latter means they're in the original Japanese text. If anyone can correct me on this, by all means, go for it.
And lastly, I don't know a lot about Burnout: Paradise but....
Burnout Paradise – Full Game Plus Bundle ($7.99)
Take off into the world of Paradise City at ludicrous speed. This bundle contains the full digital version of Burnout paradise with all cars and bikes unlocked so that you can jump right into your favorite ride. The bundle also includes the Boost Specials cars, the Hawker Mech and Carson Extreme hot Rod, so you’ll be leading the pack in no time!
File size: 3.45 GB
I think that's likely a goddamn steal. Let's hope it's not a misprint, I guess! Could someone more in the know let us know just which DLC packs those are so anyone wanting to pick up the others on sale won't end up double-dipping? (Unless the Bundle singles them out already.)
It actually says which DLC pack it is; the Boost Specials one. Looks like Time Savers is also included, if all the cars and bikes from vanilla Paradise are unlocked.
BlitzAce1981 on
PSN ID - BlitzAce1981 FFXIV - Raiden Solitaire (Sargatanas)
At that price, there is absolutely no reason at all to not own Burnout Paradise now. That's a damn fine game, and still holds up 3 years later. I already had the game (in disc form) and the Big Surf Island pack, so I just picked up the other single player focused DLC (the boost cars one, the legendary cars one, and the toy car one).
I also just bought the non-mp DLC for Hot Pursuit (which, to me, was even BETTER than Paradise). Woo, lots of new racing for me.
I was holding off on redeeming my free month of Plus until I saw something that I wanted at a discount. Still not seeing it. But I guess I have to get it anyway, since this is the last day.
I was holding off on redeeming my free month of Plus until I saw something that I wanted at a discount. Still not seeing it. But I guess I have to get it anyway, since this is the last day.
I was also holding off on getting PS Plus until the last possible moment or until I saw something I wanted. Then I saw Uncharted 3 beta in my (NZ) PSN Store, tried grabbing it, it gave a message saying 'Step off, PS Plus users only' I thought 'No problem, I will finally redeem my free PS Plus from Welcome Back' then I activated PS Plus went back for UC3 Beta and it was gone. After much googling it turns out New Zealand is one of about four countries where the Uncharted 3 Beta is just for real paid PS Plus users not freeloader Welcome Back program PS Plus users.
Oh well, I only redeemed my PS Plus a couple of days before I would have lost the chance and got a free UC3 beta code from someone on the PA forums so I ended up getting it anyway. I just thought it was a dick move to show something as available if I had PS Plus but then remove it once I grabbed my free time. If i had read more about UC3 beta on the internet before trying to grab it I could have come found out this info but I feel there should have been a not saying my freeloading nature would disqualify me.

The UC3 beta was only restricted to plus users for a week. So the beta will still be open til the 14th I believe and it's available to anyone in countries that are having it.

I would hope that when they get this up and running on the PS3 (and eventually the Vita) that you'll still be able to get future updates on the PSP as well as the other things, (Meaning the 'final' in the 'final PSP update' means 'PSP-only' update) and that the comics you have already will be DLable onto the other things. We'll see, I guess.

Catherine wallpapers are up now.
Also, is Fast Draw Showdown coming to PSN? I notice it has wallpapers and a trailer. Great game, but ... not sure how well it'll convert to consoles. That game thrives on the arcade experience.

Giant Bomb has a quick look of the Journey beta up. Sooo pretty. I'm not one for thatgamecompany's stuff, usually, but I think I might be on board for this one.

What...? How the hell does "bringing the comic service to other devices" == "hey so guys, no more updates, see ya"? It's impossible for them to do both? I'm seriously starting to believe Sony only has a couple of people running each of these stores.
I wouldn't be surprised if we got PS3/Vita comic store announcements at Gamescom but I'm baffled as to why they have to suddenly stop providing them for the PSP as well. Does anyone know what resolution they've used so far? Maybe they were short sighted idiots and the comics are only at PSP resolution...

Regardless, this is amateur-ish shit.
The only way I can explain it out is that they said "Final PSP update", suggesting that the next time it updates, it'll be a cross-platform update, or just a 'Comic Store Update", instead of the "PSP Comic Store Update".
It's really awkward wording and I'm just not prepared to believe they're not going to publish anymore comics on the service, yet put the service elsewhere.
I did take a Sony email survey around 6-8 months ago that seemed extremely interested in whether I was interested in reading comics on my PC or PS3, and whether I would be more likely to spend money on comics should they make it available...

Hmmm... I wonder if Darkstalker Chronicle or Ultimate Ghosts & Goblins is worth $5.
Bought Fate/Unlimited Codes for $10. Then again, I've recently become a Type Moon fanboy.

One of the comments on the EU blog specifically says that it'll be the last update on the PSP's store. I can't come up with a single reason for this that makes them come out looking good. Either they're coming up with an entirely different format and comic reader for the PS3/Vita, which means no compatibility with previously bought comics and that the library has to start from scratch. Or they're just being dicks and giving up on the PSP, when they could still get some money off the few remaining users and it'd cost them jack-all to maintain.
I'd really like to know what goes on behind the scenes of the PSN. Do they just have really shit software behind these stores, which leads to the numerous bugs that pop up (sometimes to my benefit, when I get free PSP games, sometimes not, when games just completely disappear from the store)? Do they have way too much bureaucracy, which leads to 100x100 fucking avatars not being put straight up for some idiotic reason? Are they only run by a handful of people that have too much on their hands to deal with the numerous problems that pop up? The whole thing's a clusterfuck. They need to consolidate all the stores into one, probably based in the US, and make sure they're all on the same page.
Still haven't received my Beyond Good and Evil HD refund btw. Been a month now.
Think I'll be on a wait and see for the comic store, sort of tired hoping that one day I'll be able to read my comics on the PS3. Wondering also if this is because some of the comics are going iOS/Android since there is a larger market there and they're dumping Sony.

Well, the comics are staying on PS3, so I don't think they're dumping Sony because of the smartphones.
I dunno. Maybe comic sales on the PSP are so ridiculously tiny it doesn't recoup the cost to put them up? The system is selling horribly in the west this year and there's been maybe 1-2 new game releases per month lately, so it's possible not enough people are bothering to turn it on much. That would also explain the dropoff in general PSP releases for the store.

I bought that along with Space Invaders Infinity Gene a few months ago. I only regret one of those purchases.
BLOGGU~

I think that's likely a goddamn steal. Let's hope it's not a misprint, I guess! Could someone more in the know let us know just which DLC packs those are so anyone wanting to pick up the others on sale won't end up double-dipping? (Unless the Bundle singles them out already.)
And yeah, I believe someone in the PSB Comments said the Time Savers pack is in it too. The wording certainly suggests it.
I also just bought the non-mp DLC for Hot Pursuit (which, to me, was even BETTER than Paradise). Woo, lots of new racing for me.
Re: thread title, has UC3 Beta gone open for all, or is that based on everyone could have free PS Plus right now, because that's not enough for a few countries
Switch Friend Code: SW-3349-7357-2013
3DS Friend code: 3093 8504 2352
There's a sale on EA published games that includes Shank, both Deathspanks, Tetris and few others.
There's new DLC for: Dirt 3, Hyperdimension Neptunia, MX vs ATV, Mortal Kombat 9 (Kenshi), and the usuals.
And nothing for PSP (apart from a Mini & a PSOne game).
The UC3 beta was only restricted to plus users for a week. So the beta will still be open til the 14th I believe and it's available to anyone in countries that are having it.
I think I remember seeing Gex 3 a while ago... Not too sure if it is still up there, but I'm pretty sure it is.

Also, is Fast Draw Showdown coming to PSN? I notice it has wallpapers and a trailer. Great game, but ... not sure how well it'll convert to consoles. That game thrives on the arcade experience.
Yep. Sometime this month.
It's been up as Wiiware since January of 2010, so I imagine they just took that, retooled it for Move and made it pretty and such.
You bastard. I was thinking about it..and then I saw this post...and now I bought Burnout Paradise. So much backlog...but I love Burnout. Bah!

Or maybe Sony's just being odd. Who knows.
