Don’t hesitate because this limited-time offer melts on July 19th, and the games will return to full price. Head on over to the PlayStation Store on Tuesday and take advantage of this season’s best deals!
I've had Back to the Future, Chime, Pac-Man, and Shooter 2 on my "buy when on sale" list for a while, so this sale looks great to me. All 4 games for $25, nice.
I do think it's pretty shitty of Sony to have a sale where PSN+ members get a bigger discount right when I'd say the majority of people's free 30 days of + has already passed.
Think I'll be on a wait and see for the comic store, sort of tired hoping that one day I'll be able to read my comics on the PS3. Wondering also if this is because some of the comics are going iOS/Android since there is a larger market there and they're dumping Sony.
Well, the comics are staying on PS3, so I don't think they're dumping Sony because of the smartphones.
I dunno. Maybe comic sales on the PSP are so ridiculously tiny it doesn't recoup the cost to put them up? The system is selling horribly in the west this year and there's been maybe 1-2 new game releases per month lately, so it's possible not enough people are bothering to turn it on much. That would also explain the dropoff in general PSP releases for the store.
Or maybe Sony's just being odd. Who knows.
Comics have never been on the PS3. But yeah, there's no way on earth the comic book companies are responsible for this. There's like 10-15 different comic book companies, a few of which don't exactly get along (like DC and Marvel, mostly because Marvel's run by arrogant dicks who love to take cheap shots), so no, not happening. And why would they anyway? It's not like Apple owns them, they can make money off both services.
But to go back to what cloudeagle said, if Sony end up using the same files across all supported platforms (like they do with PS1 games and minis), I can't think of a single reason why they couldn't just update the PSP comic store with the latest releases for the few people that still use it. The only limiting factor at that point would be, as I pointed out, a potentially horrendous backend which makes adding anything a complete pain in the ass.
So basically, I think it boils down to either:
a) They were short sighted idiots, the current comics can't run on HDTV's and/or lack something critical they want to add, so they have to start from scratch.
b) They're being dicks and have given up on the PSP so they can relaunch it on the PS3 and/or Vita.
Either way, they come off looking incompetent. Or in other words, they're part of SCEE's PSN team.

This.
I would be curious what kind of PSN+ sales were made during the free period and how many people are converted into paying subscribers. What I do know is that I didn't buy a thing and I'd rather take the $2-$4 hit in buying a couple of those sale games than grabbing a plus subscription for the extra discount.
Steam can convince me to buy games for a platform I very rarely use but Sony couldn't drum up extra purchases from me on a console that is used daily in my house. Not trying to cry over something I got for free, only that it feels like a wasted opportunity for Sony.
You can no longer download the "sorry we lost all your private data" freebies but the free PSN+ month won't end until 30(?) days after you activated it. Which is why people were avoiding activating until an interesting sale hit or as late as possible.
Um, you DID turn off automatic renewal of PlayStation Plus, right? If you didn't, it'll auto-renew for you after 30 days using funds in your Sony wallet, even if you just signed up for the freebie month. At least that's what the fine print I read said.
It's just weird. I activated psn plus about a month ago. I still have the little psn plus logo next to my name.
But then when I go to download the free stuff for psn plus members, in this case a mini and a ps1 classic, it doesn't work.
When I get to the spot where it usually shows how big the game is and you confirm your download, I just get a blank screen and the only option is to "continue". Then it just sends me back to the store without downloading anything.

Note that this will not auto-renew and simply expires 30 days after activation.
Well, that's nutty. I signed up for my free PS+ month a few days ago and distinctly recall reading a "you have to turn auto-renew off" message. Ah well, glad people aren't getting accidentally screwed over this.

I definitely remember a message along the lines of the free 30 days were special and as such you would not automatically be charged upon expiration but instead your PS+ subscription would just expire after 30 days.
Huh. Maybe they turned auto-renewal back on just now, before the 30 days were up? Because I specifically got a message telling me they were auto renewing, and that was on Monday.
Ugh, it's pretty frustrating that I'm getting the same error message as two days ago, when trying to get my forgotten password reset on PSN. It seems like the kind of thing that Sony would be more on top of at this point in time.
Not sure if anyone cares, but PC Engine version (TG16) of Ys 4: Dawn of Ys was released in the Japanese store. It's a different game than the SNES version.

So, the obvious highlights this week would be the Summer Sale that lasts only through to 19th, so get on it and get on it quick. Plenty of things anyone would want, I'm sure. Also digital version of AssBro, for anyone who doesn't want to bargain hunt out there for a physical version.
It's worth noting that the Summer Sale is not Plus-Exclusive, Plus Members just get a more discounted price. And this does include PS Plus Members on their free month, if you waited a bit to redeem yours.
No LBP2 FFVII costumes? The news post last week said it would be on the 13th, but I thought that might have been a typo since the store updates on the 12th.
I guess it's not unheard of to release it on Wednesday, but that's kind of weird.

They're in there. I just don't usually make a habit of listing off Add-On Content.
LittleBigPlanet 2 Final Fantasy VII Costume Pack ($5.99)
Download the Final Fantasy Costume Pack to dress your Sackboy up as your favorite Final Fantasy costumes, including: Sephiroth, Cloud, Tifa, Aerith and Vincent (exclusive to the Final Fantasy Costume Pack).
File size 110 KB
I also believe they're being sold individually. (Except Vincent of course.)

Fuck. Yes.
Originally I read that the pack would cost an absurd $15, but $6 I can do.
I can't wait to have four dudes gather online, each wearing an FFVII costume. Oh, the delightful fun we'll have.
I confess that I've got the image of Sack Aerith and Sack Tifa pulling Sack Cloud's arms in opposite directions.
I wish they'd put DLC on sale more often. Especially in concurrence with other promotions. Like it would totally make sense for them to discount the AssBro DLC this week since they are doing a PS+ free trial.

The Catherine demo is the same as the JP one, but that was great, so everyone should get it.
(It's a cutscene, the first stage, a boss fight, and a texting sequence.)
I don't really know where else to bitch about this, but GameStop's power-up rewards program is pissing me off. I have enough points to cash in $9 for use on PSN, but somehow they're out of codes. How do you run out of codes for that? All the code is (or ought to be) is an agreement for GS to pay Sony $3.

Hooray, I just got Dead Space Extraction. I was one of the people who held off on claiming my free PS+ until a few days before the deal ended, so I also got it for a bit cheaper. Now I just have to find the time to set up the Move I got a few weeks ago.
And am downloading the Catherine demo now. I tried playing the Japanese demo months back when it came out but playing an Adventure/Puzzle game in a language I don't understand is so utterly pointless it's not funny.
Golden Axe was so much less awesome than my nostalgia-addled brain made it. Golden Axe sucked so, so hard, and my wife and I finished it in like 20 minutes. (She thought the length was a bonus. "At least it was over faster than most of your retro games.")
Dead Nation (£9.99/€12.99) Availability: Not available in Germany
minis (PS3 and PSP)
Arcade Pool & Snooker (£3.49/€3.99)
Awesome Summer Minis Bundle (£4.99/€5.99)
This bundle includes the following games:
A Space Shooter for 2 Bucks!
Young Thor
Widget Odyssey 1 and 2
Zombie Tycoon
Gamocracy One : Legend Of Robot (£4.15/€5.19)
Demos (PS3)
PixelJunk Shooter 2
There's new DLC for Dirt 3, LA Noire (Reefer Madness case) and the usual stuff.
The LittleBigPlanet 2 DLC is the Final Fantasy costume pack that was shown off a long time ago.
Just played the Journey beta and wow, I think this game just leapfrogged most of the multi-million dollar games coming out at the end of the year in my mind. Amazing. I thought I'd be iffy on the multiplayer stuff but nope, works brilliantly. Can't freaking wait.
Man, I need to find the LBP thread. I played the most amazing SOTC level. Also watched the Watchmen trailer. How the hell can people come up with this stuff?
There's also an amusing "FF7 Day" video that lovingly jabs as the fanboy excitement over the costume release. I just wish someone made some FF levels worth a damn. Millions of fans, and the best they can do is crudely-sounding music levels?
I finally bit and got Back to Future. Under $10 was too good to pass up, even if I have played the first couple episodes on my PC.
I'm a bit disappointed. Is it supposed to be this muddy looking? The PC version is nice and crisp looking and I can't imagine it being all that graphically intensive.

Looks like Plus users (in Europe at least) are getting Castle Crashers for 'no extra cost'.
I want to know more PA people on Twitter.
Those Europeans are so delicate. And in England they call it "all you CARE TO eat." Decent folk.
