As you can see the maps are in no discernible order and I no longer have a dropdown to filter them. Also, I'm missing a ton of maps on this screen; the only non-novice ladder map available is Steppes of War. Does anyone know what caused this, or how to fix it?
(I have the same problem when creating a Multiplayer game; I literally can only create games on Steppes of War as far as 1v1 ladder maps go)
Yeah, that's broken.
Balls. Anyone know where the maps are stored? That might help me fix it.
I got this problem before. Go into C/program data/blizzard entertainment/ and delete the battle.net folder. You need 'view hidden folders' on to get there. NB: this is for windows vista, but XP and 7 should have similar paths to fix it.
I don't have anything like that =\. I searched for everything battle.net or Blizzard related to be sure, with hidden file searching enabled. I did find a Battle.net folder in my main installation directory but all it has is two necessary mpq files that break the game when deleted.
The folder for me was in a different place ( different windows versions I assume ) for me using xp it was in documents and setting\all users\application data\blizz etc..
Instead of bitching I'll just ask. How do I handle mass warpgate with stalkers? They blink on my tanks and somehow roll over my marauder ball with medivacs. It may be an issue of having too little marauders? I try to get about 8 rax when I see heavy stalker but I dunno, they tend to reach a critical mass where they just roll my rauders. Do Ineed more tanks? More rax?
I think I finally figured out the two major stumbling blocks between my current performance and my theoretical understanding of this game.
1) I never did my placement matches, so I don't know all the maps for a damn. When I get a run going on maps I've seen before, I do well. When I'm on a map I've seen 0-3 times, I get rolled because I'm way out of position whenever my opponent's push comes.
2) I think I might have to accept that I am now so old that I cannot successfully enjoy fast-paced, high-precision gaming and alcohol at the same time. That's a rough pill to swallow, seeing as I really don't have enough "me" time to excel at both activities.
In related news, I've hit upon a new warmup strategy. If I can't beat two hard AIs in a row without breaking a sweat, never once wondering what to do next or whether I am, in fact, stomping the comp, it's not worth trying to ladder at that point.

8 rax and at least one factory producing tanks? How many expos do you have to support that?
Also, stim marauders should roll over stalkers easy at near equal food.
Two out of the last three Ive won with Nydus worms on Scrap Station, terran's who wall in, then I see the wall with a drone, drone dies, get an angle on a corner of his base, tech to nydus, send the zerglings and roaches...profit, Im not sure if its cheese or not is the problem. I suppose I could have busted in with banelings in those two games (see my previous post for a saved game of my Nydus Bust) seeings how I had a Macro lead, just not sure if the Nydus worms are cheese or not.....seems successful on Bronze, on that map...
So I'm not much for rushes, and I think the 4-gate is on its way out (both because of the patch and because people will figure out how to counter it), so I'm looking for something else. Right now I'm playing with the idea of a 2-gate robo into fast colossus. I've gotten it out in about 7 minutes, but I should really work on it under pressure.
I think it could be an interesting build against T. If they persist with the MMM ball they'll get wiped out. If they transition to vikings, I bring phoenixes.
The other option I'm thinking is to cut out the robo bay, go straight for a fast immortal, then transition to phoenixes for cracklot/phoenix/immortal.
I bet none of these work, but I'm getting bored with gateway units.
the 4 gate is still a damn good build, but i agree, ya gots to mix it up a little...
i don't know if its on its way out, but i'm tempted to double gate at 10 and see what 5 early zealots do to a fellow P.

Nydus worms aren't cheese so much as they are a mobility increase. It's kinda like saying that medivac drops are cheese because they allowed someone to do something they otherwise wouldn't have.

at this point, you should post a replay. i can almost hear the future echoes - Get Better at Macro.

Plus, c'mon, Nydus worms are cool.
That makes me feel better, and i wanted to respond so i could show off my sig with my new 50% W/L ratio, was a long grind....
Oh man. I just had a sudden feeling of horror overcome me as I realized I am one hour late to my first alienware match. Oh shit oh shit ohshitohshit!
Then I remembered what day it was.
My brain is having a time lapse or something.
I just lost my first tournament match. I was all prepared to fight diamond level zerg, and the guy race switches to protoss. Totally threw me off. He fast teched to collossus and even though i scouted it i was so very not ready for that...

May be late to this party, but with 8 rax going, you should be able to afford a couple of Ghosts. That would even things up nicely if you weren't completely outproduced.

Mauraders beat stalkers 1 on 1 (without stim even) and they are cheaper. If you're massing mauraders with tank support you should ROOOLLLLL over mass stalkers. Unless he's just outmacroing you of course.
After all that talk, I played a guy on Metalopolis, he SENSED (never saw his scout) Nydus Worms or something, and stuffed it, I baneling busted, but I was too late, he Dropped me with MMM 4r+ a Few Helions, Lifted his buildings off and toasted mine, game over, was a good run though. Lesson learned, if your Nydus gets stuffed, stop making zerglings, Race Cars with Flames are coming...
hrrmm. upper platinum is showing me that I'm really good at early pressure and early defense but really bad at midgame. I don't know when I should cut my losses after a push and turtle for a bit in order to mass a larger army. I keep sending units in to die and getting stomped after my first push fails. It's not like I don't know how to turtle and mass, that's how I moved up from silver to gold, but early pressure worked so well for me in gold and it's completely failing me now.
So I haven't been laddering much, but I practiced a shitload against the hard (and eventually very hard) AI, and got to where I could reliably not fall behind on spending all my resources until I did a *really* big counter-push.
The net result is I've won 11 of my last 12 ladder matches. Maybe I'll get out of bronze! Or at least find better bronze matches.

Like this mass marine SCV rush. It scared me for a moment. Then i brought my SCVs off the line in case I needed them and just raped his forces.
It probably would have worked if my units targeted the SCVs luckily they are smarter then that. I probably didnt even need to bring mine off the line, but if I lost to that I wouldve been pissed so there were no chances.
I just wish that Nydus worms weren't audible in THE WHOLE GODDAMN MAP.
Nah it's ok, but I propose that dropships unloading and protoss units warping in become audible to the whole map. It's only fair.
Instead of an epic roar, it would probably be a nice calm whisper you don't even notice.

I will throw you on the land and hurl you on the open field. I will let all the birds of the air settle on you and all the beasts of the earth gorge themselves on you. I will spread your flesh on the mountains and fill the valleys with your remains. I will drench the land with your flowing blood all the way to the mountains, and the ravines will be filled with your flesh. - Ezekiel 32: 4-6
Either he was stupid and didn't a-move his scvs or you pulled some sick micro and queue'd up some firing on his marines. Either way, they deserved to lose :P

Mmm hmm! Say, Nydus worm is like the proxy barracks/pylon for Zerg.
Except that it pretty much tells your opponent to scout the fuck out of his immediate surroundings.
let me watch the replay first, so i dont look like a dick....
nydus worms shouldn't be either!!!
nevermind that there is practically no limit to how much there can be in a nydus worm!!!
but seriously mang the bestial wail of a nydus worm can be such a terrifying thing for the enemy
sometimes i just queue up 2-3 and them dudes go crazy trying to find em
Nydus worm to me is like Nuclear Launch detected, if you don't already see it coming you start frantically trying to find where it is.
I have just been informed.
