Spent this weekend playing with my roommate and my brother getting us some villains up to their travel powers and accruing some prestige so we can store some of our salvage every so often. Might try to get one of my friends to join in on our brigade.

There's a post from Ex Libris about the I10 beta tester selection that has one interesting detail: It sounds like having copied a character over to Test, and maybe logged in and played, too, might be a prereq for getting invited to betas. No guarantees, and it could be totally incorrect... but hey, if you haven't already, may as well set up a test install, copy a char, and log in to Test -- after the I10 beta is over of course!

I'm the same, and I was in it too. I think they probably use a variety of methods, from having been in the previous betas, to filing good bug reports, to spending time on test, to whatever.

I don't have enough time to play on the live servers as much as I would like, let alone the test server.

Yeah, that's probably correct. I read Ex Libris' quote as just meaning that having used Test at all was probably a prerequisite, not any amount of time played on Test.

And when you think about it, that makes sense - as one criteria, you take folks who have 1) installed a test copy already, and 2) shown enough interest in the game to copy a char to test, for whatever reason. Beyond that, for the purposes of getting good/interested testers, playtime on test is somewhat irrelevant. The folks who play the most on Test are bound to be almost entirely PvPers anyway, not exactly a wide demographic.

So last night Scoot and I were talking about the base. We've got a rather large base compared to the rest of the server's SGs and it just takes up virtual room. We never hold any events in there and aside from having some pre-travel power people in there it's empty. Basically, no one is really using the base.

Scoot mentioned something and I checked it out. Team leaders can let teamed members enter their base. I tested it out and the bug that prevented that appears fixed.

Basically, we can now rent out our base for birthdays, weddings, and funerals now. Rent it out for dozens of inf an hours. Dozens and DOZENS I tell you. We'll be rich! We can also get Gear and Harsh to take care of hosting duties.

Who is our most beloved Virtue board poster? I want a post there this instant and toss up some pics of Harsh in his girly outfits.

I also want each and every one of you talking in broadcast about this. Tell them about our low, low rates and balloons!

Every hour you guys delay is another 29 inf we're losing out on!

I've even got a payment plan worked out for the SG. The head officers will split 15 of the inf between us. 10 in will be put into a special saving account to buy Prestige with. 5 more will be spent to keep the storage bins in the bases stocked full of 2nd tier insps and the last 4 inf will be spread amongst all of you for your hard work and short skirts.

Ok Dys, you know what you have to do. Make a post over there explaining our base and our low, low introductory rates. Explain to them about our easy, no hassle financing and no money down needed on approved credit (credit score of 720 or higher). PA can also provide groups with a host or hostess for the time they are staying. Tips are encouraged as we're really not going to give our members much but motivational speeches. Special low rates for groups of 20+ and for a limited time offer you and your party can have a room designed for your special occassion! All for a very reasonable fee. Come check out PA . . . today!

I think that Scoot has some screenies of the base that you can use in your post as well.

I've got nothing against the furries myself, it's just that so few of them are properly house broken.

I honestly think it's a smart idea. I'm sure there are lot's of folks who'd love to rent the use of a base like ours, and we never use anything but the occasional teleporter anyway, so would any of us even noticed if it turned into RP central?

Plus, think of the fat lewt we can buy with the cash.

I'm actually sorta just into the idea of creating a niche business. I don't think this jazz will fly or become permanent in any way or form but I think we're the only ones who have a) thought of it and b) have a base big enough.

@Gear, THANK YOU JESUS. I have no idea where anything is in the Allegory base.

Though on the other hand, most RPers seem to like to make a spectacle of themselves which they can't really do in a private locale.

Also, the Affliction base is honestly a lot prettier than the Allegory base and we should probably start with that.

Question for the techies, how much horsepower does CoX need to run decently?

My laptop chugs like Barney, so I'm pondering building a new desktop, which I haven't done in a while. The only computer game I'd bother to play is CoX and (maybe Half Life 2, heard it was good), so I only need enough hardware for it to run good.

All I really care about is getting it to run with zero stutter no matter the team size (as now more that 3 or 4 makes it spotty at best) at 1600 x 1050 with the graphics turned up to at least medium but preferably high.

I've always leaned towards AMD, and I'm well aware nVidia well out-performs ATI in CoX, but I'm wondering just how much cash I have to spend.

As it is, I could get an AMD Anthlon 64 X2 3600+ and a EVGA GeForce 7600GT 256MB for about $160 on Newegg. Paired with, say, 2 gigs of RAM would that be sufficient?
