System Registry problems

So, today I tried to turn on my laptop and was confront with a black screen telling me that windows cannot start because a system registry file was corrupted or missing. The error information was "0xc000000f" and it advised me to insert the Windows Vista recovery disc to replace/restore the files.

It came with Vista, so I don't have the disc, but I do have the manufacturer's (ASUS) recovery disc which my manual said to use. So I put in the ASUS recovery disc, except now I don't get that black screen saying Windows can't boot. Now it does boot, sort of, until I get to this generic desktop screen and a mouse and nothing happens. It just sits there, never loading any log-in screen.

I force it off, and when it boots up again, I press ESC and select the CD/DVD drive to boot from, but it just goes back to that generic desktop and mouse. I've pressed F8 to boot windows normally and it still goes to that screen.

How do I get back to that black screen asking for the disc? Or better yet, how do I just make the disc work? Or is this just something I have to take to a computer repair place?
