I played a bunch of this and it's pretty good, but there are a few things that confuse me. One being that I have no idea what you're supposed to do to remove the shield from the money ball. Actually, that's most of it. I can't remember all of the weapons and abilities, but it doesn't take long to switch to a class and see what they have.

Only your bots can drop the shield. Any two bots that jump on a moneyball while it is up will lower the ball so that pros can damage it. Also a Jackbot can lower the moneyball if he hits it twice.

Yeah, it's already been answered but only bots can take down shields. Your focus should be on making it so that the bots can travel safely.
As for the class switching, while learning it's nice to try out the classes, but once you start playing on the real, class switching after the beginning of the match is pretty much useless.
The upgrades you buy don't travel with class changes, so if you're rocking lvl 2 and 3 skills with an engineer halfway through the match, then decide your team needs to go gunner, you're knocking yourself back down to the start. I'm sure some do it, but it's kind of like flushing in-game money down the toilet.

Once the shield is down it will land on the ground. You can then shoot it all you want. It gives you money directly and when it's health drops to zero, your team wins. A brilliant mix of RTS and shooting.

One useful tip about switching classes: If you have multiple custom classes that are the same pro (two Assault custom classes, for instance) you keep your upgrades between switching between the same pro classes. Useful for changing up tactics mid-game but not really losing any money.
For example, I have one Assault class that focuses on damage (RoF, Acc, Crits). But I sometimes run up against Assassins who figure out that I don't have any armor endorsements which means they can instakill me from behind. If they start preying on me, I will change to my more armored class (Armor, Skill Recharge, Speed). So the next time they try to assassinate me, it doesn't work. Then I kill them and they leave me alone.
That's news to me. Thanks. I just wish it wasn't so expensive just to have custom classes.
Its not bad really. If you by only one or two pro-tags, by the time you hit level 60 or so you should have enough money left over to unlock all custom class slots. And hitting level 60 doesn't really take that much gametime.
Also custom classes aren't locked in. Even if you have one custom class slot, as long as you remember them, you can even switch in and out between rounds. It's nice to have a bunch of different builds, but I never change customs classes mid-game, so it's actually never been a problem to me.
All the multiple slots do is provide me the opportunity to have an assassin and gunner build ready to go from the start of the match.

If you plan on switching between them, I wouldn't invest in abilities too much, and instead focus on turrets.

Play this game enough, though, and you will start to love only a couple classes. The ability to switch between custom classes of the same pro and not lose your upgrades offers a lot of flexibility. I know a guy who only plays Tank and has 5 custom classes all for Tank. He changes it up based on map and mid-game depending on the enemy team's make-up.
Its a huge strategy that is prevalent in competitive X360 MNC games. It will most definitely happen on the PC.

I meant switching between rounds, if that was directed at me. Like, just making a new build for a new class before the game starts.
But yeah, if you're switching classes a lot mid-game, turrets are the way to go money-wise.

I noticed that, so I've mostly been playing as a single class entire rounds. The only one I don't particularly like is sniper, which is mostly because I'm not very good at getting headshots.

Yeah, as someone already said, much like most team games, you'll eventually find classes you really like/don't like. I know a lot of people that love Assault but I personally HATE playing him.
I went gunner exclusively for a long time, but now alternate between Gunner and Assassin (especially now that the assassin whoring has dropped exponentially).
Find classes you like, look up good builds for the strategies you employ, and remember to take care of those bots!

I still love the Tank above all others.
The way he pushes lanes is just unreal.
Level up his Product Grenade ASAP to get the Scatter grenade, and then he has two attacks that will near instantly destroy an entire group of bots. (Death Blossom and Product Grenade, respectively)
Killing other pros is just a bonus at that point, I've gone matches where I went something like 5-20 and still got MVP.
So, I just played for a bit. This game is tons of fun.
I have to say my favorite class is the Assassin, I seem to do the best with her. But there are so many counters to her, it actually feels balanced. Tanks can instakill with the charge if you fail to kill them, Gunners seem to be able to see me pretty easily, and Support's have so many HP...it's hard to just outright sack them.
So, is online play (PC beta, derp) broken for everyone? The server list (which can't be sorted by ping? WTF?!) seems filled with games I can't join.
it's definitely semi-broken, after I clicked the "don't show full servers" button I still had to try a few more times before I find one that was able to join
Yeah, according to an employee on the official forums the counter that's supposed to show you how many players are in a game is busted. If you take a look at it in the list they show all kinds of absurd numbers, including negative numbers.
I really hope they fix that soon, getting into a game is kind of a pain at this point. I tried to get into one earlier but the only one I managed was a total lagfest. Being a beginner and not being used to Assassins is bad enough normally I'm sure, but when lag makes them blink around and rubberband wildly it's impossible to not get backstabbed. I couldn't even keep a bead on the Support and the burlier, slower classes.

Yeah Laggy games/people while playing an assassin = massive losses and death.
I was in a game (which took forever to find one I could join, hope they fix that soon), and while everyone was fine, there was one guy who was lagging and blinking all over.
I'd blow my cloak trying to catch him, only to have him blink away and waste me. He was lagging to everyone, and ended up going 15/8/1. Totally impossible to kill without blind luck.
On another note, some form of chat would be really nice for PC. Not being able to say "Hey, need an assault to go left lane with me so I can assassinate early" is really frustrating. That and since everyone is new, I've seen like 3 guys push the lane in the first 5 minutes, and bash down the ball while my team is hanging around trying to push the other lane. Because it's impossible to communicate and not everyone has sound on.
Chat, better server screen information, and maybe some optimized netcode for PC would launch this game from a solid 7/8 to a 9/10. I really enjoy it, the games I could get into where a total blast (unless they where really laggy).
Also what's the deal with no 16:9 resolutions? 4:3 and 16:10 and then 2 HD option, don't get that. I'm also getting graphical glitches where the background of arenas are pitch black with a white glow around them (or maybe this is what it's supposed to look like) not to mention the terrible times finding a joinable server. But beta and all that, Uber Entertainment seems like a good set of dudes so I have no doubt they will be working hard to get the PC version up to snuff.
Keyboard chat is definitely a must, it feels like I'm playing singleplayer sometimes just because there is no communication whatsoever.
It seems that most classes can eventually see the assassin even when standing totally still, not taking damage, and a good distance away. I think that if I am standing still...I should be invisible. Perhaps I'm just missing something here but it seems most people can see me pretty easily.
Snipers frost trap can be deployed WAY to often. Should be limited to a single trap at a time, a good sniper can create a fortified area anywhere, making them really hard to take down.
I think there is one more, but I forget.

Wish I could land in an actual, playable game, because between server/Steam DCs and the negative playercount thing, I played for maybe seven minutes online. It seemed pretty fun, but I can't be sure.
Im convinced that the XBox needs a dedicated league and teams and a season.
I would play this so much more if there was something at stake. Its fun as hell, but without any sort of organization theres still way too much quitting to make me want to play it for more than a couple rounds a night.

I guess I will wait on purchasing this game until some of the issues present in this beta are ironed out
Sometimes these "betas" are just "play early for preordering" and don't actually involve bugfixing
But I am very interested, as long as they have a decent server browser

Normally I would share your cynicism, but Uber actually go the extra mile to tweak their games, as seen with the balance adjustments made to the 360 version.

And that's in the defiance of M$'s pay to update wankery. Something in their netcode makes the game update the properties of each unit before each match. It allows them to update and tweak on a whim without requiring an actual update.

I know what you're talking about, but that has absolutely nothing to do with netcode. Apparently on Xbox Live there's a text file for each game that the developers can edit. They call it something specific, but I don't remember what exactly. In the case of MNC, it'll download this text file when you start the game and it contains the numbers for a bunch of stuff.

Because I gotta tell ya, I doubt it
And I believe the given reason for this game's easy-update system on the 360 was because of Microsoft's certification process taking more than a month for updates, not because they have to pay money for it

It's a little bit of each actually from what I remember. They don't want people to have to wait long for necessary balancing and they want to provide good stuff for their players without gouging them like Microsoft wants them to.
