So... some of my fondest memories from Halo 1 are infinite rockets on Prisoner. I should do a remake of that. I like open/vertical maps with a prize at the top of the level.
But it just wouldn't be the same. How can you play Prisoner Rockets without nearby explosions making you fire rockets out of your ass?

Halo 1 had the best bugs. Invincibility while overshield charged, throwing yourself out of the level by flipping over tanks, getting in crazy places by hopping out of Ghosts sideways, turning soldiers into needle-powered jet engines using the magic of load points, instant kills just by hovering over a teleporter exit and moving slightly, killing Hunters with a single pistol shot on any difficulty, armless and harmless Flood, and not to mention some of the irrecoverable-but-entertaining sequence breaking.
Okay, I still have no clue what the hell is off spawning and repeatedly exploding in the water in my Forge Map. Is there *any* way for me to figure this out without up and deleting everything, one piece at a time?

If you can at least see where it is, you might be able to raise it by putting the big glowing grid under it. You could also try getting as close as possible to where the object is spawning and spam Y to try and delete it before it explodes.
Also, if it's something exploding then it can only be one of a handful of things. Save a variant of the map, delete vehicles and explosives one by one until the explosions stop, and then delete those vehicles in the original map. Or just delete all the vehicles you can see and then check which one doesn't have an even number beside it from the item menu.
I can understand the need in multiplayer, but I greatly detest the invisible walls present in the singleplayer levels. The egregious one right off-hand is
on ONI Sword Base, where the rocks on the left while you're coming out (to the 2 wraiths). You can't actually climb up the rocks to get shots on the grunts or elites down the hill because the invisible wall starts even before the rocks.
Half the fun of Halo's singleplayer was seeing where you could manage to drop or jump to in order to break a level's sequence or get things where they're not supposed to be (I'm pretty sure everyone has finagled a jeep next to the 2 hunters in Silent Cartographer...possibly multiple jeeps). Excessive player clipping is just lame.
Dear Bungie: Why is there no method of undoing a mistake in a map other than "Do it all over again"
Sincerely,
Lanz, who deleted a core piece of blue base and is now having to figure out just how the fuck he had the entire base fit together around that one, single piece, fighting the camera the entire time because, for some reason, it goes ballistic if you try to manipulate a piece in tight spaces.

Yeah, you gotta make sure you save frequently so you don't end up accidentally dealing a mortal wound to a map. Re-placing a couple of blocks from a recent save is a lot better than having to strip apart an entire base because you deleted a chunk of building rather than the spawn point you were aiming for.

I'm lucky my first Forge attempt is a really simple map, as I kept deleting the tower at the centre of the map instead of the items I had placed on it. If I'm not sure, I always toggle the Object Options, as it shows what I'm hovering then at least.

here's what i do on maps i have a good chunk of time invested in since my last save:
aim the reticule at what i want to grab, and before I do, hit (X) instead of (A)
that way, the little menu that slides out tells me exactly what I am about to pick up

Tried it!
For some reason it autosaved when I hit "END GAME" to leave forge world, thinking it'd reload next time I went in
Despite the fact that, near as I can tell, it shouldn't.
Has anybody else noticed the really severe case of auto aim in this game? Just point your crosshair at a large mass of moving enemies and you can feel the crosshair being jerked all over the screen. It's really irritating. The worst is when you're aiming at a grunt and then an Elite strafes in front of it so your crosshair starts following the path of the Elite.
I'd turn it off, except I can't. It's not an option.

Halo has always that kind of auto-aim. I don't even notice it anymore since it only activates within certain ranges and pretty much just slows down the reticle for finer aim. Helps improve fine aiming temporarily without making everyone's aim permanently slow.
I despise aim assist. I have never found it to be helpful, only a burden. Probably because the only time I notice it is when it pulls my headshot off target to follow the full health guy wandering in front of him and it centers on his back. :x

Thats the only time you notice it though. Ever tried shooting a team mate? It can be a real bitch without assist.
So I apparently lost all my campaign progress as well as my arena ranks and challenges completed. Dammit.

Yeah, it can be irritating sometimes, particularly when trying to punch a guy and you lock on his hologram instead.
But to give you an idea of how important the aim assist is in Reach, think about how hard it is to hit your teammates at the end of a match. Now take that and apply it to every fight ever. And then realize that the game would come to be completely and utterly dominated by area-effect weapons for the simply reason that nobody would ever be able to kill with precision weapons fast enough to ever have chance to fight back.

Re the final level:
Didn't find it as hard as I thought it would be...for a few reasons. Firstly I'd been saving rocket ammo since almost the start of the level to kill the hunters with, then found out you could break the window and jump through it. So, bypassed that fight almost completely. Hardest bit was holding off all the brutes that swarm in while Emile mans the MAC cannon. Hide in the bottom room and slowly pick them off? Leaving only to grab new weapons? Yes please.
Final fight to the MAC cannon...thank god for that box of DMR's. Made life so very easy. The actual gun part itself I did on the second try. Basically the cannon has to be firing constantly or you won't make it.

So ...uh, don't crash into scripted falcons with ghosts or warthogs. Apparently if you throw it off its default path it has a tendency to get stuck in assorted world geometry on its way. Or do, just be aware you'll have a high probability of the craft getting stuck and getting saved as a checkpoint and forcing you to restart the level.
...which is totally awesome on legendary, by the way.
So, I just started campaign last night, and my experience so far is this:
*Presses button.*
"Incoming Covenant drop-ship".
The term "button" can also mean anything. At this point I generally stay away from anything that resembles a button, and jump from rock to rock like one would to evade a Tremor worm.
Just finished Long Night of Solace on solo Legendary, the only level I've tried so far. Holy hell, some of it was brutal. Eighty minutes or so, at least forty of which was me pounding against the same wall. My solo playthrough is going to be in btis every now and again, but my total Legendary playthrough has been with challenges - every time there's a campaign challenge, load up the next Legendary level.
I'm assuming that if I have, say all but one of the levels completed in Legendary co-op, and the missing one Legendary solo, I'll pop the 'complete on Legendary' achievement?

Since there are two achievements for legendary, solo and coop, I don't think you can mix them to get a "completed" playthrough. But I think you can just plug in a second controller and beat it split screen instead of online coop.

I have another question: if I save a map to my file share and then later make some changes to the map, do I have to add it to my file share again or does it do that automatically?
Also, I do have a map on my fileshare if anyone wants to take a look at it and give me any suggestions. I have a few more ramps and such I wish to add, and there aren't any weapons or anything just yet but I wanted to know peoples opinion on how they think the map is so far and if they like what's there then I'd like any ideas on where I could place weapons, spawn points, etc. I'm new to this so I don't have a good idea of what would make for good game balance, etc.
edit: Also, my gamertag is Darmak X99 for those that don't know and are interested in taking a look.

Yes, you'll get the legendary achievement via mixing and matching.
However you won't get the solo legendary achievement just for doing the "last" one solo. Every one has to be solo.
Can confirm that there are indeed three different missions involving Buck. One has you flying as his Falcon wingman on a "classified mission", another has you escorting his Falcon to a burning building whose roof collapsed on his squad, and the last has you helping him destroy a Phantom that's pinning his guys down on a roof.

I'm not sure about Reach, but the Timer ran during cutscenes in Halo 3.
Tilt gives certain enemies specific resistences. So brutes become damn near invulnerable to human weapons, and Skirmishers become immune to plasma, etc...
