Kin chat is dead right now. Where the hell are all our 65's? :?
At work? Will be back on the weekend. Not much to do for me on the weekdays.
It's not you specifically, dude. I know you're on a different schedule than most of us. Even on the weekends, we've had lower numbers than normal.
It's not you either, Ziggy. You're on all the time. It just seems like we've had a lot less activity in general over the past three weeks or so. Our regulars are logging in less and less frequently, some have stopped all together. I'm just bummed that while we've got quite a few lower-level toons playing (which is great, we've got some amazing newcomers lately), there ain't much to do for ol' Hjar these days. I blame Cataclysm. :P

My bet would be that they're playing cataclysm... I keep quitting that game 'forever' usually right before the next expansion is announced. Usually by the time the expansion is released I'm playing again. This is the first time I've been able to resist WoW's siren call, so far...
This usually happens to MMO's they'll get a surge in new players, then the next WoW expansion comes out and their memberships drop dramatically again.

I'm not one of the 65s you're talking about, and I have had a couple of thoughts about Cataclysm, but for me it's more a matter of all the activities related to Christmas season -- just don't have much time to get on at all right now, and some days I haven't even turned on my gaming pc; I'm still itching to test out the new and improved LM and RK abilities, but if I do manage any game time before the weekend, it'll probably just be some crafting sessions (all my cooldowns are up, would be a shame to miss out on that opportunity).
BTW: My brother finally did install LOTRO, but on his character creation screen it won't let him select a race and so he can't finalize even his first character. He made a problem ticket for this after doing some searches on the problem -- it seems others have had this happen, but none had gotten answers on any of the forums where he found this. Any ideas or suggestions?
Edit: Oh yeah, another possible explanation for the inactivity: in addition to the WoW expansion and Christmas, it may be that the "shiny new car smell" of the f2p release is starting to wear off. If so, that would be a shame, because the November patch seemed to me a huge deal. I thought it was pretty impressive for Turbine to bring in so many substantial improvements so soon after basically giving it away; it shows that they haven't abandoned the lifers and VIPs, and the freebies get to benefit as well -- what more could people want?
Another possible - The absurd steam sale around thanksgiving also filled a number of us up with new toys, so that may be distracting some people, especially the free players. I know I've been distracted by my purchases lately, and with the difficulty I've been having getting groups around my level (27 on my champ) I get bored solo questing and end up logging off to play something else.
So I've heard of items having 4 legacies to start with. Which ones? I've not actually seen it myself. I'm assuming it'll probably be L65 2nd ages or some such.
any 3rd Age can have between 2-3 legacies
any 2nd Age can have between 2-4 legacies
any 1st Age can have between 3-4 legacies
Is there an in depth tanking guide out there that's useful? I've read a few (top results via Google) and none of them were helpful. I have a 35-ish warden that's going to waste because I can't get the hang of it. I suppose I'm just too accustomed to WoW.

That is extremely odd and I've never heard of that happening. As much of a pain in the ass as it would be, my only idea is maybe reinstalling will fix it. That sucks.

3B, maybe you should roll an alt?
The Steam sale (which I tragically missed) crossed my mind as well. To this I say, if you can afford to drop cash on a Steam sale, you can afford a LOTRO sub.
And I am completely stricken with alt-itis right now, this is no secret. I've gotten my mini to 29, and I'm teetering on the edge of rolling a Warden.

Know that Warden is widely considered the most difficult class to play because of all their gambits and such. I don't know what links you've looked at, but I dug up a few that (I really hope) will prove helpful.

Yeah I'd agree, but some people (myself included) feel an obligation to play a game with a monthly fee more since you're paying for it monthly. LOTRO is the first game I've managed to ignore this urge with, although I've been thinking about un-subbing for a bit until I get through the holidays.

My first impulse was to suggest that, but considering how long the download took him, I didn't want to hit him with that right away. Hopefully he'll have his laptop with him this Friday and I'll be able to look at it myself.
My other thought was to let him try an install from my CD; but it's pre-MoM, so I'm not sure if the patches would amount to a full DL anyway.

I remember that crafted LIs (of all age) used to have higher chance of having maximum number of starting legacies. Not sure if it is still true, since the F2P patch, but it might be worth to craft your LIs.

Yeah, I get that. I dealt with that myself. I guess it helps to be a Ringnut to the bone. I wouldn't touch MMOs with an eleven-foot pole. Then back in 2005, I read that a game called Middle-Earth Online was being made. The nanosecond that that piece of information reached my parietal lobe, all my MMO inhibitions went away. Everyone's got different circumstances, I guess.

I have an original retail version of SoA as well, in fact my most recent install came from it. Soon as you set it to update after installing, it downloads everything available that wasn't on that disc. Works just as well (and noticeably faster) than downloading the whole shebang.

I wish I could. But I am not gonna dump my tailor to do it all over again as a woodworker.
I'll rely on YOU guys.
Now, if they ever give us the option to buy Kindred with the crafting guild in the store in the future, I *may* consider it.
But I need to run a crap ton of more instances to get my Superior Third Marks so I can get my Helegrod's and THEN get my symbols of celembrior.
I logged on less in the past week but nothing to do with Cataclysm and everything to do with board games and just being busy.

I'm thinking of dropping Metalsmithing for Weaponsmithing on my Captain. Can I join more than one crafting guild? I figure woodworking and weaponsmith will probably work out better. Those new consumables for heralds are pretty useful.
Speaking of delicious legendaries:
Where do I get the +melee def scrolls? I need one for this solo emblem I'm working on. Is it enedwaith or mirkwood/loth? I checked those quest dudes in Dolvein and they only have +tac def.

No, you can only be with one guild at a time. I can recommend leveling alts for crafting so you can get in on the guild recipes awesomeness.
I believe there's a melee def scroll in Midnight Raid in Eregion?
Never really looked at the rewards for Midnight Raid. Only really looked at the Beleriand scroll it had.
My warden's already up to friendly with the woodworker's guild. Wasn't really sure if you could join more than one. Wouldn't want to grind all that goddamn wood again.
Speaking of LI scrolls, is there a way to acquire the +stat legacy replacement scrolls in-game apart from the quest rewards? Every time I ask I get a different answer, and it's always wrong.

And yeah I was super excited for this when it came out (was a beta tester for a bit as well), but didn't find a good kin at the time and ended up getting bored and quitting.
There are barterers (is that a word?) for the dungeon tokens in, 21st Hall, Caras Galdahon, and Ost Gladh that can the tokens you get for running instances for the stat scrolls, scrolls of empowerment and delving.

Should've paid more attention, mang. Our kinship was arranged before the game even launched, the name settled on during open beta! We've had a spot for ya since day one.

I'm bouncing around between this and M&B:WB primarily, just can't seem to settle on a character to level (i like my guard but our kin already has a ton of tanks).
So, I just had a thought. Is the Enedwaith barter goodies better than Loth/Mirkwood? i.e. am I wasting my time here or are they more sidegrades?
Loth is lv60 stuff, so for legendary items and pots you're wasting time. But their gear rewards are pretty good even at 65. I found Mirk and Grey Company are both useful to have at kindred. Mirk for scrolls of delving and stat legacies, Grey Company for pocket items and both for cheap pots (unless you have a scholar in which case pots and scrolls are easy-peasy). Men of Enedwaith are less interesting, although they have nice gear if you don't bother with running any instances.
So I've heard of items having 4 legacies to start with. Which ones? I've not actually seen it myself. I'm assuming it'll probably be L65 2nd ages or some such.

Well, if you look at the spread and assume even distribution of probabilities, then the 3rd Age has a 50% chance of only having 2 legacies, while a 2nd Age has a 66% chance of having 3 or more legacies.
I dont know that anyone bothers to craft the 3rd Ages though, especially not in any quantity that they could get a feel for the probabilities of legacies on identify. Though I suppose you could do that with the L60 crafted 2nd Ages, since they are super cheap to craft.

I remember reading somewhere that crafted 3rd ages always have 3 legacies and that you have the possibility of getting 2 legacies when you are crafting a 2nd age because you also have the possibility of getting 4 legacies (don't know the exact probabilities). From my experience, most dropped 3rd ages have 2 legacies.
I want to rename my warden, he's currently called Alduilas and that name is shitty.
I dunno what else to call him, though. One kinnie calls me Alds and I quite like that name, but I'm not sure. It has to start with Al- because that's how everyone recognizes me.
