Extending wireless network?

I've got WRT54GL with Tomato as my main router. I connected a spare WRT54G and I'm trying to set things up so the extra one acts like an extender or repeater without actually creating a separate wireless network. I seem to be doing it wrong tho, cause my Wii and handhelds still see two SSIDs. What should I be looking for? I already turned off DHCP mode and gave the router a static IP.

I've set this up in a corporate environment but it should still work the same. Both routers should be connected by ethernet cable and have the same SSID, different IP addresses, and as large of a wireless channel difference as possible. So if one is set to channel 1 than the other should be set to 11 (this can vary if you get interference). This will allow you to walk into the range of the next router with the device and it will seemlessly connect to it.

If you are looking to just turn on another access point without the wired connection, it won't pull data from another router, even one with the same SSID. You would need a repeater to get that kind of functionality.
