I'm intrigued by your Sky Forest idea. Are you planning to do it solo/offline, or multiplayer?
I had a tall pillar I essentially converted into a tree farm and then cut off from the land on a private multiplayer server with a group of friends. I might do a solo-offline mode tree forest later, but I'd have to think about deserts and reeds... would love to have waterfalls falling off it though.
Anyway, you need to snake some grass up there by leaving a chain of dirt blocks and allowing it to grow. You can get rid of the blocks later, so long as there's at least one area of grass on the floating island.
Is there going to be more to do in later versions? I understand the lego aspect is fun and all but a Tower Defence or Dota or Survive the endless waves of baddies type of modes would be so much fun in something like this. I am merely curious
Also, I just spent 7 hours building a massive tunnel system to several houses, and started a massive mining operation, and started to get greedy. I went deeper and deeper and I would have sworn that the stupid skeleton that killed me was the Balrog. I lost 50 diamond and several hundred other ores, mostly because I couldn't find my way back through the caverns that I constructed.

I tip I've been using from the last thread. You're bound to have a ton of cobblestone around anyway, so use it to make a path back to the entrance. Also, wall up dead ends

Always take a bunch of logs with you. Then you can construct a workbench and some boxes to store your stuff when you get deep down or you're found a good haul. Also you can make signs to show you the way out, or mark completed forks.
I haven't seen 50 diamond in total in all my games ... current one i have only found 9 and that's my best yet.
Free is done? Weird, it still worked for me this morning. Maybe my client didn't update properly. I'll check when I get home.
Also, damn you guys, I started playing this and now it's hard to stop.
I think free online is over. If you click Login without any login info, you get a prompt asking if you want to play offline. This works fine.
EDIT: Just spent 2 hours exploring a system of tunnels that broke off from my main mining lines. All I did was lay torches as I went further in. Didn't develop it at all, just dug the occasional ore I came across and kept pressing onward. I can't believe I actually found my way out as the path kept branching off into new paths.
Is there a way to transfer a SP world into a MP world later?
Been working on my cave, but might make a multiplayer server for a couple friends and was hoping maybe I could port my work over.
Yes I've done it. In windows 7/vista:
Go to C:\Users\<your windows username here>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves
You should see folders for WorldX. X corresponds to where it is in the saved world list (first one is World1 etc).
Copy the desired world folder to where you have installed the server. Within the server folder, rename it to just world (no number). It will keep your spawn point and all of the items in chests.
You will lose anything you were carrying around, so make sure you put all of your important stuff in chests before this copy. Also remember since this is just a copy, changes won't be shared between SP and MP.
Just dug some of my old cardboard 3d glasses out. They look super classy, as they're from Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3D. So they aren't just the plain white cardboard ones. But they're actually sturdier than others I've seen. Anyway, moral of the story is Holy Shit.
The effect isn't perfect.. I'd really like it if it projected the crosshair to whatever distance the tile it's currently on is, instead of having it at zero depth like the rest of the interface, and every once in a while it'll ghost a little bit.
But.. Wow. That's the way to play. If any of you have any glasses laying around.. Seriously, give it a shot.
Water is awesome, as is looking up through that tiny hole at the far end of my cave that like 2 squares of sky shows through. There were quite a few other "Holy crap, that's awesome," moments too. This is definitely the way I'll be playing from now on.
Where can I get string? I have cloth from sheep, can I turn that into string? I have a green exploding guy and two archer skeletons at the bottom of my cave and I can't get close without taking a bunch of arrows to the chest..
I hope that all this attention and money helps him spend more time fixing up and getting multiplayer going well. I can't wait to see how well Minecraft can turn out with some proper development and making sure things work as they should.

I think the spiders dropped something that looked like string to me.
Question: A buddy of mine started up a Multiplayer Survival server last night, but it didn't seem like there were any zombies at night, and we couldn't kill any livestock. Is there a setting he missed?

I started to seriously mine. Chose a random spot in a cave and started cutting to get some cobblestone and broke through to a cave I didn't know existed.
"In the last 24 hours, 32223 people registered, and 15200 people bought the game."
Holy shit, Notch.
Yeah, i went for a nice lunch in a posh pub. I spent £18, and in the same time notch racked up another 2000 sales ... so what, 20k euros? He must be having the best day ever.

You have to change your local settings from peaceful to whatever. And they only die by drowning/suffocating or by fire. Creepers still do damage to structures.

not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me
Multiplayer survival currently has monster spawning disabled (except for spawn generators) because damage is effed up the wazoo at present - everybody and everything is invincible. On the plus side, this means no fall damage and you can't drown.
I'm quickly finding how insanely much effort it takes to level a 100x100 space above ground.
For instance, mountains. I have to remove A MOUNTAIN. It's very easy to get bored. I'm just not that autistic I think. So I take breaks and brainstorm things to build inside the inner walls of my town. Sadly, I've realized that with only 13 spaces between the castle and the inner wall, that mostly limits buildings to being 6 or 7 space deep. Which means only 4 or 5 spaces wide to a room, although they can be as long as you want.
Plus this crazy idea is taking too long so other crazy ideas are taking hold.
That's ten thousand squares. Mine one per second and that's not quite three hours. And that's just one layer.
I think it's time to use an automated tool. Edit: I mean, file editor. Hack, is what I'm saying.
Edit: 16.1k sales in 24 hours!

I try to have two or three projects going at once because of exactly what you are dealing with. Sometimes you just have to walk away from a project and work on something else, or go exploring. I often come back laden with coal, iron and sometimes even clay.

WTF INTERNET! A simple search for "Minecraft Creeper" on Google brings up some fan-made images I REALLY didn't need to see...
Very straightforward. Added in because people just kept getting lost when trying to find Rapture, and because we want to have Columbia completely untethered from the ground (i.e. no more ladders).
/warp rapture will take you to RAPTURE. Specifically, the lighthouse.
/warp columbia will take you to COLUMBIA.
/warp dome will take you to the Dome in Rapture. I would hugely prefer if new people and those who have not seen the lighthouse and bathysphere before did not use this - the entrance is part of Rapture's charm.
/sethome will allow you to set your own personal /home point. The default is still the shack on the shore (a.k.a. The /Homestead).
TOOLKITS
Right now, there is one very basic toolkit implemented. /kit tools will produce a mining pick, axe, shovel, and stack of torches for your use.
I may make additional kits if good ideas come up, but for the most part I intend to keep my server pure which means that if you want sand, you have to go dig sand.
More is being implemented as I get the time - I need to add custom user colors back in.
I made this blueprint a while ago but I figured I'll share it with newcomers in case anyone wants to take it up. It was a bit much for me.
A maze in which you are forced to visit four corner towers before reaching the grand tower in the middle:
I would last about 5 minutes and then I'd start pickaxe-ing my way to the middle tower. :P
Well yeah.
You could also make it a height of one to let people who want to solve the maze still walk it, and let annoyed people hop over it but it'd still be an impressive sight from the top of the towers.
So creepers, per the wiki, detonate in a 4x4x4 cube (rounded off to be spherical.) So if I wanted to build a creeper-proof glass hut I'd need to make the walls four layers thick, so I could never be inside the blast radius of a creeper standing right at the outer wall. Right?
Edit: Arthil, maybe try the java applets for animated weather at radar.weather.gov and see if they do the same thing? Then you'll know if the problem is Minecraft or your Java installation. I don't know.

I generated World1 and was about to start my brand new adventure and.... wtf? Snow? Water that freezes?
Is this like... temporary? Or is my world perma-frosty. And can I make snowballs?
I'm going to write up my first days in actual survival mode today. I'm sure it'll suck but I need to have fun at work, too.

I really hope it has monsters. That is largely the source of fun, I think; exploring dark caves full of potential threats.
In other news, my 3d glasses arrived today. Really looking forward to seeing how well the 3d option works.
