I think it skews a bit late 2010-2011. Good list - like that they focused on true original games - some picks are a little odd in my opinion but that's why it's not my list!
What's Treasure Treasure? Did I miss that or is it recent?
I read on Twitter that there are still a huge # of games in the release pipeline because of the deadline to release XNA 3.1 games. I think it said something like 80 games?? That's pretty crazy (and bad if some gems get lost in the mix)
The Treasure Treasure game was overlooked, I didn't buy it but I think the only reason was that I didn't have points on my account at the time (or I was addicted to downloading Rock Band 2 songs, either is the same result...)
Ninja 360 really deserves more sales, it's kind of like a mix between Super Meat Boy and ... Cameltry?? (On The Ball) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cameltry It seems easy at first but gets harder, really creative game.
I heard Rotor is good but haven't checked it out yet.

about 70 at the moment.. I've got a "free" day that I was expecting, so I'm hoping to review a few.

I played a bit but it didn't really jump out at me... I liked the 'mario galaxy' style rotating world stuff, but the controls felt a bit odd... and I wasn't keen on the whole "time trial" aspect of it - I think it would've been cooler using the mechanic with big levels with enemies, rather than time trialling small single puzzley levels. It was still pretty good tho - don't get me wrong!

Stick Unleashed - sticktacular stick battles, with vehicles, spaceships, wall-jump madness, multiple weapons and a built in level editor!! (co-op/vs 1-4 player X360)
Also - I Excruciating Guitar Voyage.
There is one in Japanese which I like even better, so let me translate an entry from it which shows an example of why it's funny. Maybe try auto-translate, it literally has reviews of almost every single game! He's actually posting videos of playing these to NicoNico Douga (the Japanese version of YouTube) which I will have to hunt down and watch.

I, uh, make games for XNA, dude. I already have a Live account.
Ohhh sorry! What games are yours? I have no idea why the link does not work for you. Have you tried signing in on the main connect page?
Oh, nothing distinguished, I made a simple geography game called Around The World that had the misfortune of coming out after Globe Clicker. I just wanted to make a joke: "You, uh, follow me on Twitter. Remember? No? I dropped you off at the airport, that was me. Still no? Um, I was the best man at your wedding. That... that doesn't ring any bells? Uh, alright then."
I'll try logging out and logging in again on the Connect page.
I downloaded about a dozen of the games that were most often recommended here. Almost all my PC game purchases are indie games, so I was expecting to find some hidden gems.
Unfortunately I didn't find any hidden gems, at best these games are okay. I realize I'm not paying much for these games, but in most cases they aren't even worth 80 points. Most of the games are clones of existing games. Those that are original aren't much fun.

So FortressCraft-- wherein we reverse-engineer minecraft's jar then flip it on XBLA as our own work. Looks pretty neato and I can tell it's worth the money because it is a game I've already played before!
I'm reading that it will actually have gameplay inspired by Dwarf Fortress and Railroad Tycoon, so as compared to Minecraft's nearly non-existant gameplay I think that will be a big advantage.
I am kind of confused about the strategy of releasing different packs that simply extend gameplay, but we'll see how gamers react to that.
Minecraft runs like crap on my laptop at home and make the CPU run hot. If they port it to iPad I might buy it for that just to be able to "play with Legos" sort of building, but for me the novelty wore off and exploring caves solo kind of got boring. I tried to jump into a multiplayer server full of professional game developers and that was basically not very fun because a bunch of artists had imported things way more complex than I would be able to make, like gigantic fortresses that extend into the sky, I wish I could share the IP of that server
I was actually kind of disappointed that Notch took all the money from Minecraft proceeds (including mine) and didn't immediately start to work on a much improved version of Minecraft (either for consoles or phones or whatever), they are working on something else instead. I respect their balls, but I feel like they should at least do both at the same time to give back to their donations sooner than later.
Back to on-topic, the hot topic of XBLIG is actually some games recently released that have you undressing monsters after you beat them in battle. It seems that the game is actually a ripoff of a popular Japanese adult PC game, I see some Japanese gamers tweeting about it "this would be pretty cool, but it seems to be made by some foreign guys to just look like a Japanese game"
GDC is coming up very soon, hopefully there will be announcements around XNA.
It seems that the game is actually a ripoff of a popular Japanese adult PC game, I see some Japanese gamers tweeting about it "this would be pretty cool, but it seems to be made by some foreign guys to just look like a Japanese game"
Is this anti-foreign opinion a common sentiment among Japanese gamers? I know our RPGs have sold pretty pathetic amounts in Japan, despite being very similar to Dragon Quest in style. Cthulhu Saves the World has only sold 29 copies in Japan and the trial has only been download 281 times. Contrast that to our worldwide sales figure of over 11,000 sales and over 27,000 trials. Now, I wasn't expecting to light up the charts or anything seeing as how our game is in English, but I imagine if a good Japanese RPG w/no English text came out on XBLIG, it would get a fair number of purchases and downloads from hardcore gamers. I'm surprised it doesn't work the other way around.
I wouldn't say it's anti-foreign, it's more like "so close, yet so far" frustration.
The art style looks somewhat anime-ish to Westerners, but to them it's a fry cry off. It's kind of comparable to the reaction of Western gamers when Japanese try to make a gritzy FPS. It goes for both indie games and full scale AAA games, so I wouldn't feel bad about it...I think the easiest way to solve would be to find some Japanese manga-ka guy willing to draw art for free. Most of them are in starving artist situations anyway, so I wouldn't be surprised if they would do some limited amount for free. I've seen stories of western artists that make anime/manga style art that is nearly indistinguishable but they are probably the ones who would want to charge you $$.
I wish some Japanese indie programmers would be open to collaborate, but unfortunately English skills are not very strong over here and Japanese people tend to be shy and open up only over a round of beers or night of karaoke singing. Certainly many of them on XBLIG are working with less support than you guys probably have, so they would probably love that people took an interest in helping them.
There's also a small cult following of XBLIG games in Japan that is more around the high scoring games, I'm not sure how many there are but one of them is on my friends list and she has insane scores in some of those Radiangames/Xona Games. She plays the same games every week: Pac Man DX, Pinball FX2, Hydro Thunder, Game Room, XBLIG. It's kind of like the last stand of arcade gaming, I can't say it's a huge # of people but they are dedicated enough to keep one company afloat nearly by themselves (Cave).

I tried Wizard's Keep - I think it's quite good. However, I am not sure if sales will reflect it's quality level. The graphics won't be for everyone and there's no hook at all in the demo (I made that same mistake with my game).
It's the type of game that needs 30-60 minutes to show it's depth.
Yeah, I just bought Wizard's Keep too. It's pretty cool, definitely reminds me of Miner Dig Deep, graphics wise, and the just the way it works in general. Not a huge fan of the combat, but it's whatever. I've made it a couple levels into the Goblin cave or dungeon, or whatever it's called.
I'm just glad to give them my money so they keep making games. Maybe they'll recapture the magic of Miner Dig Deep, maybe not. Either way I wanna see what they come up with.
Anyone played Final Rift? It seems like the kind of game I've wanted for years, a free-roaming space thing. I gave the trial a go over the weekend, but 5 minutes or so really isn't long enough to figure out a game like that. I mean, 80pts is hardly a loss if it does suck, but still.
Damn you for mentioning Miner Dig Deep, you made me start another mine
Ooh. What's behind this rock? Lemme dig over to that gem. There's some ore! Just one more square, I know I can find more ore... just one more square...

thoughts?
It's pretty silly that they're pretending this was inspired by Dwarf Fortress and Railroad Tycoon. It's literally Minecraft with new textures and, seemingly, fewer craftable objects.
Just a couple things we're working on right now. World of Chalk is what we're getting ready for Dream Build Play. The other Volcano game is a smaller scope game that should be out before then. Its pretty fun though, a bit like a less gruesome Super Meat Boy minus the wall-jumping.
