I figured out how to drift properly in this game which has made me enjoy a lot more.
Really though fuck those civilians who decide to drive while I'm drifting my Police cruiser.
You really have to admire the few intrepid souls who actually venture out onto the roads of Seacrest County to go the grocery store or dry cleaner. The civilian traffic saturation rate of about one car per mile actually seems pretty reasonable given that this place is supposedly the illegal exotic car street racing hub of the world.
I've discovered freedrive mode is invaluable for getting the hang of things instead of just jumping into a new car all willy-nilly. I also seem to be a MUCH better drive when I don't have any time constraints, other racers, cops, etc. Now if only I could bring that calm driving experience to the actual races...
I think I'll have to try freedrive now because I'm getting completely overrun in multiplayer. Some of those racers are getting sofar in front that nobody catches them for the whole event. I've got to be doing something wrong with my drifting, but the game's sure not telling me what.
The game's alright, but in a lot of multiplayer games come down to just luck (like choppers that drop spikes in completely stupid areas, or fellow cops that decide they want to TK, or hard shunts that dont register any damage).

I think I may pick this up tonight. The question is if I want to dig out my wheel and pedals. Are the keyboard controls pretty crappy?
Holy crap, the SCPD Impreza sucks balls. It's all very well having a high top speed, but when your car is pinballing off of every obstacle on the road because it handles like a drunk ice-skater, it's not worth the trouble. I really hope that it's not mandatory for any of the chases.

Finally managed to give this a shot, this looks like it could be my favourite racer in a long, long time. I really hope it comes to steam so I can buy the shit out of it.

Oh, and NFS World is perfectly playable with the keyboard.
I question this because I think you would have to play NFS World for more than ten minutes without losing consciousness in order to tell and that just can't be possible.

So, is anyone else doing custom soundtracks or are you using the ingame?
Because the very second I put this in I set my custom to play this.

So the consensus on this is good?
I'll be picking this up tomorrow, may be a couple of days before I get a chance to play it.
It's pretty sweet - once you get into a decent lobby with people around the same skill it is a heap of fun. More than most other games mulitplayer games have to be even numbers cops/racers or else it becomes massively one-sided. However, it's a lot like the first time playing burnout paradise in that once you get into the grove of the handling the fun ramps up.
I think I may pick this up tonight. The question is if I want to dig out my wheel and pedals. Are the keyboard controls pretty crappy?
When are keyboard controls for a racer NOT crappy?
That said, a wheel and pedals is probable a waste on a game like this. Just plug in a 360 controller.
My only 360 controller is wireless, so that's about my only two options.
Oh, and NFS World is perfectly playable with the keyboard.
The keyboard controls were fine for a pretty good chunk of Burnout Paradise. If this uses a similar engine, you could probably get by; although you will want something analog by the end of the game.
I just had some ridiculous luck on Turn The Tables; after doing a 180 upon seeing I'd called a roadblock, the suspect started to speed off... straight into the central reservation. I crashed straight into the back of him, pinned him there, and busted him even though he had 3 bars of health left. I don't see anyone beating my time of 30.33 seconds anytime soon...

so what's the deal with digital distribution on this?
is there any chance of it ever coming to steam?
is it using gfwl exclusively?
It doesn't use GFWL. At least if it has any interaction with GFWL I've never been aware of it. EA is big enough to have their own in-house fucked up multiplayer.
Why it hasn't appeared on Steam yet I have no idea. Steam got NFS Shift and Undercover, but I was reduced to buying Hot Pursuit from Direct2Drive.
If you are out of a jammer as a racer and a cop is starting a EMP lock on you, slam you handbreak and breaks. Cops have a tendency to slam into each other trying to get one racer. Most of the time they freak out if you just stop while they are aiming their EMP.

I'd love to give this game a try, but the darndest thing happened. Fucking demo I downloading stopped working before I could even play it once. Apparently I need to buy the full game if I want to try it. Oh EA you cheeky monkeys.
PC users didn't even get a demo at all, which is a pretty big slap in the face for a series with roots on the PC like NFS.
The game isn't nearly as terrible an obvious console port as I thought it would be based on that, though. I mean, it is obviously a console port but it's not a completely half-assed, broken, slapped together and rushed out the door as a token deal like some (*coughBlurcough*).
Okay, played a bunch of cop events today. I hate those time trials. I played a cop so I wouldn't have to race. I just want to wreck fools.
Yeah, those are awful. Who cares about time-trials as a cop? That's what racing is for. Then the penalties are incredibly unforgiving, and once you make a single mistake you often pinball into another railing. And since it's so easy to wrack up 15+ seconds in penalties you compensate by driving extra carefully which makes the goals a flat-out bitch to reach. It seems like the goals are set as a perfect run with zero penalties with barely any margin for error, which completely sucks the fun out of those events.
Rest of the game is awesome though. Come on PS3 people, add me. chrisfom

I'm surprised I've made good use of the spike strips so far, I couldn't use them to save myself in the demo.
Seriously this is everything awesome about burnout paradise minus everything not awesome about burnout paradise, and then they added licensed cars.
And it looks like distilled sex.
My favourite game since Mirror's Edge.
It's so gorgeous.
The road you're driving along at the start screen alone had me drooling.
Seriously I have spent way too long already just cruising around. I can't remember the name of the area but there's a part that has two corkscrews one after the other and you can just drift the whole way through them if you get in just right. It's the most zen shit I've ever experienced in a videogame.

I've pretty much been exclusively doing Cop events (up to lv 7 now) and this is absolutely incredible. I like how they play around with the equipment you and your enemy are given, they don't just give you a few of everything straight after you've been introduced to all four weapons.
There's one race where you're only given 10 spike strips while your enemy has EMPs, I think I managed to beat it with like 0.1m left.

I finally just started using a trainer for unlimited nitrous. You still have to be careful with hitting stuff, and I've had to do many of them 5 or 10 times to get gold, but it definitely helps.
The crash deaths are bugging me, too. All it takes is one slip to ruin a perfect run. I've had that happen too many times at this point. I had one where a car was stopped at the roadblock for the end of one of the time trials, and after it went through with the CRASH! animation, it did the finish animation and I got credit for finishing the race, so that was cool at least.
The races where you actually bust racers are a lot of fun, though. I like the one-on-ones, too.

Amusingly enough I have yet to see a police Dodge Charger in the game. Is there one? I don't think there is one. Which makes no sense.
Screw you EA. I'm so buying this game used. Hell, I'm gonna buy a million used copy and send it all to EA.

There's a flaw in your plan: used and rental copies have to buy online multiplayer whereas new copies get it included.
