Timed exclusive most likely. It'll probably become available for purchase after a couple months.

Crap. Well, the amount I'm saving in taxes and shipping and dignity by not buying Gamestop can go to the DLC then.

I just got an interesting email from NIS in response to asking them if people buying from the Rosenqueen store were getting the free DLC that Gamestop was giving:

Possibly. Except "at time of release" can mean a lot of things.

Oh hey, Disgaea thread. Probably should've posted this here too:
There were some reports a few weeks back about a Disgaea 3 remake or port being planned for PlayStation Vita. Dengeki PlayStation confirms those reports this wek.

The game in question is titled Disgaea 3 Return. Nippon Ichi is making some improvements over the PS3 original, including the use of close-up character pics (seen in Disgaea 4), four new scenarios, and two new characters. All the DLC from the PS3 will be included.

The original reports said that the game would be released opposite the Vita launch. It's unclear at present if Dengeki confirms this, although we'll hopefully get more details later in the day.
    http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/08/09/disgaea_3_vita_confirmed/
Dengeki PlayStation does not have a release time frame for Disgaea 3 Return. However, it does provide an indication of when we'll get to play the PlayStation Vita title.

In an interview with the magazine, Nippon Ichi CEO Sohei Niikawa says that current plans call for the game to be shown in playable form at this year's Tokyo Game Show, which will be held in mid September.

As detailed earlier, the Vita port of PlayStation 3's Disgaea 3 will feature four new scenarios. These all take place after the main storyline and have different main characters. They're meant to shine the spotlight on side characters. One of the four scenarios will feature two new characters.

In his interview, Niikawa said the main attraction for the Vita version is the new scenarios. The last of the four scenarios is so long that one could actually say the game includes five new scenarios, he said.

The Vita version will also include all the PS3 version's download content, including the four chapters of the Raspberyl scenario, 49 background tracks, 29 save data icons, and so-forth.

There could be additional Vita exclusive features besides the new scenarios. Niikawa said that they're hoping to make use of positional information and touch functionality. The Vita version may also get its own download content, although if this were the case the content would focus on characters from Disgaea 4.

One thing that won't be changing is the sprite resolution. Niikawa said that they were considering upping the visuals the high resolution like in Disgaea 4, but instead decided to focus on adding content to the game. He assured that the game looks beautiful on the Vita screen.

The Vita version may have faster load times than PS3 version. While the game is not yet running on the system's flash cards, Niikawa expects the loading to be better due to both the Vita's advanced capabilities and better memory management (I'm not sure if he's referring to the Vita's better memory management or the programmers' better memory management).

Nippon Ichi will be looking at the response Return gets to decide what type of titles they should bring to the Vita, Niikawa said.

Separate from Disgaea 3 Return, Niikawa also provided hints about four of Nippon Ichi's unannounced games. For details, see this story.
    http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/08/09/nippon_ichi_ceo_interview/

No high(er) res sprites is disappointing but I imagine the low res ones won't look as bad on the handheld screen anyway. The new content and bundled in DLC seems like a pretty good deal to me though, considering how f'n expensive all that DLC is when combined.

Hmm, four new scenarios, huh? Well, we've had Mao and Beryl as leads, so I'm gonna guess Master Bigster Big Star, Salvatore, Almaz and Sapphire together (probably with the two new characters), and... I wanna say Mr. Champloo, but then I think of the possible parody potential of Gold Knuckle. Which then causes me to think that it's going to be Asagi instead, because "MAIN CHARACTER!"

Would be nice if Demon Lord Hanako shows up again, though; a Sexy Beam that's actually useful? Hell yes.

That is some fantastic news, thanks for posting it! I already plan on getting a Vita so this just makes it more awesome for me. I've played Disgaea & Disgaea 2 a hell of a lot more on psp than I ever have on ps2 anyways, thanks to the fact that it's on a portable system.

D3 and MGS4 were the only two games I purchased a PS3 for (and a BD-Player). I played over 200 hours on my D3 file, and absolutely CANNOT wait for this game to come out! I'm a rabid Disgaea fan, and WISH they would port their PS2 grid games onto a HD collection (La Pucelle, D1, Phantom Brave, Makai).

The majority are unlocked after you beat the main story. Then there's a separate chapter select that lets you recruit them.

I should probably sit down and play the Raspberyl chapters before 4 comes out. I splurged and bought myself the all-in-one DLC pack for Christmas, but all I really did was spend time tweaking the shit out of Adell.

I'm in the post game, but I don't see a chapter select to use Pram or Zetta. Do I have to complete the other post-game chapters like Salvatore's and such?

Wait, I think I solved it. Never installed the data. :P

There's extra missions after finishing the game to get Bigstar and Salvatore into your group, you have to defeat them and their armies.

I can buy the Disgaea 3 DLC without actually having the game, right?

I ordered it from Amazon (a little cheaper and faster shipping than directly from NISA), but it won't arrive until the 23rd, or so Amazon says.

But I'd like to get the Disgaea 3 DLC while it's on sale.

Gig is seriously the best DLC character

He is so much fun, and his special ability makes it so that when his magicchange timer runs out, the person wielding him vanishes instead and all his stats raise by like 20%

And Adell is the absolute best person to help with power leveling. His evility makes it impossible to kill anything that's lower leveled than he is. Once you build him up enough, he can waltz in, punch a group and leave them sitting at 1hp, then let anybody else come in and mop up the easy exp.

Between that and the item duplication trick, this is the first Disgaea where I've actually been able to really crack into the post game. With ever other game, I get completely tired when I realize I have to grind out 300+ stat boosters 3 at a time, multiple times. I came close in D2, but that was from abusing the level-up geos and getting a 9999 cat girl. And I still got tired later on.

So apparently there were so many preorders they're billing them Monday (8/22), and will be shipping within a week (8/29), meaning we'll be getting it 3 weeks before the official release date (9/17).
    Dear Valued Customer,

In preparation for the Disgaea 4 release, we will begin billing all preorders on Monday, August 22nd. Orders will begin shipping no later than Monday, August 29th. Due to the large number of preorders placed, we must begin billing slightly earlier than usual in order to assure that all orders are shipped on time. The extra time will also allow us to contact you, should there be any problems billing your order. We want to make sure that all payment issues are resolved as early as possible to prevent your order's shipment from being delayed.

Thank you so much for your continued support and understanding.

    Welp.

I thought the release date was the 6th, not 17th. Which would only make it about a week early.

Which is nice, but if it were 3 weeks, I'd be a little pissed off, petty as it would be. Seeing as I preordered at the Gamestop down the street and would be forced to wait.

Ya know, I don't quite know where I got the 9/17 date now, thinking about it. Maybe off the NIS website, or one of those unofficial release dates that some stores like to put up cause having at least some form of release date increases the preorder rate.

I actually just came here to post the very same question.

I can only assume there is some poor shmo sitting in a dark corner with a stack of printed preorders and surrounded in cheap gas station coffee cups and beef jerky wrappers as he/she diligently enters credit card numbers one by one on a dial-up.

But to answer your question, no, I have not been billed either. And that's fine. I would rather they waited until Friday, anyway. :/
