I felt the same way with Disgaea 3. But it was also a busy, stressful time for me so that didn't help to increase my enjoyment. So far in my opinion, though, Disgaea 4 is the best thing since the first one. I'm enjoying it that much.
Did anybody happen to pick up the strategy guide, and can comment on how it is? I was thinking of getting it, but then I noticed it was Bradygames instead of DoubleJump. DoubleJump guides are so damn insane, I've bought a few for games I don't even own. They're not so much guides as they are frigging bibles. But Bradygames? Meh.

Unfortunately, I'm under the impression that DoubleJump is basically on permanent hiatus -- DJPubba has a day job, they haven't put out anything in a while, etc etc. It's not a good time to be a publisher of anything, really.

Yea you got it right on the nose there kita. I really wouldn't recommend the brady games guide for D4. It's... pretty bad compared to the DJ guides for the rest of the series. The mistakes really bother me. And there just seems to be a lot of information missing. It's pretty obvious that the guide was a rush job.

I skimmed it real quick, but mostly for the character/class section. Seems instead of Chaos Soldiers we get "Androids" now. Weird.
I figured as much. The Dragon Quest VIII guide I have from them almost literally says "There are even some hidden recipes out there!". Well that's why I bought the fucking guide you homps! Not to mention it completely skips the post-game stuff. At least the monster map was worth the price.
I wonder why DJ aren't doing the guide this time. A pity.

I hate Fenrich and Emizil. Fuka and DESCO are pretty awesome though. Desco is the cutest abomination that could murder me in an instant.
Also, the "online" component of this game is really bullshit. People send out their representatives set to "Demand item", which basically ends up screwing you over during the Senate meetings. I don't really carry many items into the Senate and then I get fucked over by some half-wits representative. I had to turn off the Online mode just so I wasn't wasting so much mana.
I'm fairly certain the NIS email for my Flonne code just came through with a blank code. Or, more specifically, what looks like a variable surrounded by {}s, suggesting it was meant to be replaced with data from a database of codes, or somesuch.
Got my copy tuesday, but had no time to play. Soon, SOON.
Man, I hear ya. If I don't get some time to play this soon, I'm going to snap. 2 weeks into the new school term and I'm already wishing I could take some time off. If I break down and throw this on I'm going to go bbbbbbbbdaaaaab and wake up sometime around January with a 0.0 GPA for the quarter.
I sent Houk a PM here, as well as replying to the email and CCing the [email protected] address. Anyone else have the same problem?
Yep, same problem here. The email didn't have a code. Just {codeset} where the code should have been. Odd.
And same problem here too.
And Wolfman - no DJ guide because the guy who does them really wasn't making enough to live on from the guides so he had to take a job somewhere else - making it so he doesn't have time to make new DJ guides.

Yeah, they're gone thank god. After they started those awful awful e-guides, blamed all the errors on translators and turned into assholes the whole company tanked and I was REALLY happy to see them go. They had stopped being the company I liked a long time before that.
Does anyone else think Fenrich's voice is... out of place? I mean, his speech is so formal and whatnot in the english version, but his sprite mannerisms make him out to be more like a Yakuza then anything else.
Has anyone in Canada got their copy that they pre-ordered from the NIS store? I got an email on Sept 1, telling me it had shipped, but that was seven days ago, and the USPS tracking site still just says it's only received electronic notification that my package will ship at some point. I'm kind of disappointed that I pre-ordered it in mid-August, but people can just walk to the store and get it before me.
Played it up to chapter 3 yesterday. I'm enjoying it so far, I just hope it doesnt end up like all the other disgea games I've played. I usually get so far, then hit a spot where the difficulty suddenly shoots up from one fight to the next, and I start to grind and it gets a little boring, then a new game comes out that distracts me. I dont think ive finished any disgea game. I like them, i just hit a wall and find it hard to return to them later.
Disgaea 3 is probably the only game in the series that has a ridiculous difficulty scaling.... okay, scratch that, Disgaea 1 was insanely difficult, IMO.
Disgaea 2 probably had the best pacing for enemies and enemy levels... but that's because the game was so freaking long. Almost twice as long as 3, if I recall. I don't know how long this one is, but I doubt it'll be as short as 3.
I played 1 way back when it was new, played 2, traded them in, then re-bought them on portable systems. Ignored 3 (I read the abysmal reviews), but the new engine, and PIRATES!!! is baiting me back to the series.
I've always played custom characters only in my party (minus the main of course). Sometimes I'll play around with the NPCs after DLC or after I beat the game, but I usually like to build them from scratch. I don't think I've ever used a monster (and magichange/fusion) at all in all these games. I'm curious if there's any particularly compelling reasons to use monsters this time around.
Also, side note: when I picked this up at my local evil empire store, the cashier and two customers were talking about this title. I was more than a little surprised and pleased. The PS3 needs more stuff like this; it's always been RPG/Strategy dry.
In the same visit I was suckered into pre-ordering Dark Souls. I couldn't say no.

Magichange and Monster fusion are really powerful.
In particular, Desco, a story character, is a monster type and she's insanely good. Plus her magichange attacks are the best thing to use when leveling up.
fuck ups and amazon so hard, they missed the release day, and they delivered it today but apparently it needs a signature?! why does it need a signature, i never have to fucking sign for anything I get off of amazon!!!!
i am seething with rage right now, I think i am just going to go pick it up at gamestop and send it back to amazon.

realease date delivery stuff from Amazon actually always requires a signature but sometimes the delivery drivers don't bother to get them. That's why I never get release date delivery from Amazon.

I've been getting release date delivery on games from Amazon for a year now and I've never had to sign once for anything

good for you. Release date delivery items from Amazon ALWAYS REQUIRE A SIGNATURE. That doesn't mean the drivers will bother to get them. It's just a sentence in a contract somewhere and it'll never matter until someone decides to insist on it.

Are you sure, I just checked and it said release date delivery does not require a signature, or are video games the exception
Either way, mailing back something after signing for it at the post office seems like a bigger hassle than just signing for it
everything is better now that i spoke with ups, i can go pick up the package at their warehouse, when i looked on the internets it told me the warehouse was closed at 10am m-f, so i was calling just to tell them to return it to the sender, but since i can pick it up the seething rage has been reduced.
this has not been a pleasant experience with amazon like it usually is though.
it didn't help i had something delivered yesterday perfectly on time and with no hassle, you know, when disgaea 4 was supposed to get to me

I guess it's still nice to have around for item lists.

Usually it's getting the base classes to certain levels.
