    IMO,

    D2 > D1 > D3 (so far)

I mostly agree with that, but D3's innovative additions like the Magichange system and the improved combo system makes the game mostly equal with the others, in terms of gameplay. Overall, I'd still say that D2 is the best IMO.

Frankly, I like that they change up power-leveling and specific gameplay mechanics in each game. It makes it original and fresh, and I hope they do the same for D4.

Are we talking about awesome reincarnation, or Makai Kingdom's hammers of level-decreasing evils?

But they're the main female characters of the entire series. The only reason they come back is to show that your insane leveling in Disgaea 1 payed off in some way.

Besides, their characters are popular, and I'd rather have them personally return in each game then have some lame personality clone take their place.

The most popular characters in the series are Laharl and Asagi and they almost never get cameos. Etna and Flonne are played-out.

    I figured it out.

Every time you die, you revert to level 1. Also, all enemies now scale to your level.

This sentence does not compute. How can you say Laharl gets no cameos, then say that Flonne and Etna are played out? If Flonne and/or Etna make it in a game, 99% of the time Laharl is right behind them. It's always the 3 of them that show up. I can't even remember a game where only 1 or 2 appear.

Trinity Universe - Etna and Flonne.
    Cross Edge - Etna.
Disgaea 3 (I think Etna at least was part of the story. Laharl was downloadable but who cares?)
    Z.H.P. - Flonne

And that's just the ones I know of.

Laharl, Etna and Flonne were part of the postgame plot. None of them required DLC.

Also, Asagi almost never getting cameos? Cameos are her thing! Makai Kingdom, Disgaea 2 (became playable in the PSP version), Soul Nomad, Prinny: CIRBTH, Disgaea 3, Prinny 2, and on the larger version of Disgaea 4's boxart... and it sounds like she's turning up in the PSP version of Phantom Brave too.

PLAYABLE cameos, I said. I've never seen her in any of the games I own. I don't have the PSP Disgaeas tho and the PSP Prinny games are awful. Isn't she just another DLC in D3? And she's hardly confirmed for D4.

I just want more Lord Zetta.

She's playable in all of those except the first Prinny, and likely to be in Disgaea 4 (she's left of Raspberyl; you can only see the arm of her coat, and even then that's only on the larger version of the art, but she's there). She even has her own mode in Prinny 2, although she's a Prinny. And she isn't DLC in D3; she turns up just before Axel in the postgame plot, I think. Or maybe before Marona.

Now, Zetta gets hardly any cameos. We need more ZETTA BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAM!!!

    Sort of.
In her DLC level, Asagi summons him, wishes for a mecha, then rips him in half.

Likely because like most NI cameos, she's typically buried in the post-game "grind yer ass off" section.

Asagi was playable in Makai Kingdom, Soul Nomad: The World Eaters, Disgaea 2: DHD, and Disgaea 3. I'd say she's pretty damn involved as a playable cameo character. The deal is that she's only playable in post game material, or in Soul Nomad's case, in a special event where you manage to win the unwinnable 3rd battle (you have to be in new game+ and kill a level 1200 boss).

Meh. I hated it. The setting was great as always but the gameplay was run jump slash. Not even as interesting as Super Mario Bros and terribly boring. Admittedly, tho, platformers are not my favorite game category anyway.

Sort of, there's still some platformers that I adore: Maximo, Super Mario Sunshine, the Castlevanias. I hate FPSs too but I adore Borderlands. A really well made game with a setting I like trumps my genre preference every time. I just don't think Prinny was very well made.

I was reading something about a punishment system in D4. What is this punishment system?

    http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2010/627.html
A new menu opens up and you can tie up the victim's legs or hands, listen to their concerns (will they beg you to let them go? Stay tuned!), give them a massage or... talk dirty to them. Yep. Makes me wonder what the game's ESRB rating will be. What's the purpose of the punishment though? NIS isn't letting on quite yet, but it should be amusing if nothing else.

Dude, if anything they'll just make the characters more goofy and change some of the Japanese terms to something silly, like changing Yukimaru's trademark "de gozaru" at the end of her sentences with "zam". Or like when they made the orc bros. in Disgaea 3 speak with Latino accents.

I'm fairly certain we've seen bdsm refs in other NIS games, so no reason to think this will be censored. NIS is usually pretty good about respecting the western playerbase's intellect.
