So were touchscreens and the Wiimote when they were first introduced. Just depends on whether they turn out to be accepted or not. If they are then they'll stop being a gimmick and be part of the norm.
Except devices are build around the "gimmick" of touchscreens and Wii was built to utilize the "gimmick" of motion control.
The back touchpads just seem to be an added "look we're doing something different" feature.
That makes no sense whatsoever. How is it any different from the DS having two screens or a touch screen? There are plenty of DS games that don't require their use.
Because it does feel like Sony designed this device with a whole bunch of features shoved in for no reason. If the whole rear touchpad thing takes off i'll eat my hat.
I do like the whole aspect of moving around in the real world and having a virtual world emulating it. Maybe it could translate into some kind of haunted house game, but you go through your own house?
Man basically the back touchpad is a way to put in touch functionality without covering the screen. As much as I expect this to end in a glorious implosion, the touchpad is a good choice. (The sticking out analog sticks and the exposed screen still, not so much)

It has a 5" screen. Unless you have cargo pants, you can't put this in your pocket.

This mainly. I'm just not sure how well it's going to go in your pocket with those sticks. It wont worry it initially i'm sure, but eventually those sticks are going to get screwed up.
I don't want to have to pay another $50-$100 for a case that weighs as much as the PSP anyway just to keep my sticks and screen safe haha.

And y'know what, this was and still is my biggest sticking point for the original PSP: The thing's just too goddamn huge to be portable.
Thankfully they fixed this with the PSP Go.
That being said, if/when I ever decide to get one of these suckers it'll be nice to have a library to start out with.

Did they announce a MH for it? >_>
Also, along with everyone else, I'm waiting to be told how much this thing will cost.. Q4 2011 is still far enough away for me to get a kid ready to sell

Oh god I just had a horrid mental image of those sticks getting all worn out and limp like the N64 sticks after a few good rounds of Mario Party.

No, just that the PSP version of MH3P will be downloadable for it.

Rear touch pads have worked pretty well on various phones before. Its a slick idea that has never really taken off.
Agreed. It's also something Sony can do to have touch controls that don't obscure the screen without looking like they're blatantly copying Nintendo by having two screens or a stylus (though a stylus would be great...).
Anyway, so is MHP3 a port or are they saying it's backwards compatible with downloadable PSP games. Need to know!

Hot Shots Golf totally ripped Wii Sports off.
If it's a Japanese thing, then show off Monster Hunter. I'm sure Capcom's got one in the works as we speak.

I'm still a big fan of the clamshell two screen design though. You can't really do a game like EO with a back screen.

Neo geo portable.
Conspiracy!
They should try to shorten that.
Maybe call it
N-Gage
Codename.
They haven't milked MHP3 enough yet. They've surely got an expansion for it in the works and will get another 4 million+ sales off it.
And probably the price too. :?

Fuck you guys.

You could always pretend Nintendo created it.
Could be great for developers and it would be interesting to see what comes out of it.
starting with Capcom.
Monster Hunter PSP2?

Wow, it's worse then I thought.
I think the Nintendo brand and the fact that this thing will probably be four thousand dollars may contribute as well.
