$53.67 is the correct price, and no you don't need a FB page to get that deal.
Ah ok thanks. You know I misread your original post as saying it was $16.23 and not $16.23 OFF. I had hope since there were other games for less than $20.
VC3 is currently $16.23 off at Play-Asia as part of their summer sale. If you're interested in importing the game, now's the time.
Bit the bullet on this myself. Being my first ever attempt at importing something, this'll be a fun experiment that I have since dubbed "let's see what this option does." I feel as if I have taken a first, timid step down a dark and costly road.
Nonetheless, thanks for the tip. Language barrier aside, if it's anywhere near as fun as VC2 I won't mind at all.
Everything I've seen about the gameplay changes looks like a win, and the story and tone seem better than VC2 as well. If only I could, y'know, actually understand the story as it's presented. Oh well, probably gonna import.
I think my favorite thing about VC2 is unlocking the classmate missions. Although now 7 deep, I'm beginning to notice that they all seem to revolve around 1 guy from A組 being a total dick. Except, he looks like only slightly less of a total pussy than Nicole (ni-ko-ru in katakana). I also think it's going to be painful to unlock the crappier classmate's missions.
As I recall, they're based on how many CP you spend on them in battle. 5 gets you the first scene, 10 the second, and 15 for the classmate mission. It's not too hard, just roll back to an easy mission earlier and select them a bunch of times. Think the only catch is you can only unlock their scenes one at a time, so if you get 7 for the first one, those two extra won't count to the next one.
If you haven't done it yet, get Marion's. It's brilliant.
Dunno if anyone else has checked, but according to Amazon.ca the copy of the Valkyria Chronicles: Design Archive I had pre-ordered ages ago is now being processed for shipment. I hope that's accurate.
Yeah, I've been cycling people off my main "team" once their mission opens up. However, that has led me to accidentally end up with a team of almost all Engineers and sheild guys (because there's pretty much nothing they can do that Shocktroopers can't).

Even if I use them a bunch, though, I can't get them to rank up for the life of me. I ended up making Avan a fencer because he has medals out the ass from his Scout days. I must be doing something wrong. I liked the armored techs a lot when I first saw them bash a head in, but once they started needing to shots to take down enemies and no ability to return fire I steadily lost interest.
I also can't get any flippin' scouts to become snipers.

That's the one thing I hated about this game was that the fucking RNG awarding medals. Once I finished the main story I put it away, but then I got a couple of other characters that have a story so I want to go back...
Also, having a good sword helps with the two-shot thing. I forget what it was (if it was crafted or an Ace drop) but I got two swords that can kill just about anything with one hit provided it's not another fencer or they duck. Too bad the old feet trick doesn't work anymore (you would aim at their feet and still get a few hits in at decent damage. Now it's dropped to like 1-hp damage if they're prone).

Snipers are pretty much cursed. It took me forever to get the credits to make Nichol a Sniper Elite, because he just kept getting AT Sniper credits.
And then when I wanted to make Melissa an AT Sniper, going "Oh, that'll be easy", she got like, every Elite Sniper credit necessary in three matches, but not what was needed for AT. Thankfully, I wanted her to get her Elite Sniper Potential, but still. They are not pleasant. Until you finally get them where you want them.
When I played through VC2, I knew going in there was going to be a lot of grinding and such. So I just got efficient with it. Using a handful of characters at a time, I'd grind out their medals while at the same time unlocking their 4th class potential. And this also had the side effect of unlocking everybody's class mission as well.
It's still grinding, so it still kinda sucks. But not as much as it would have sucked doing everything individually.

Well, the Valkyria Chronicles Design Archive showed up today. It's pretty nice. 400 pages of info and illustrations. Chapter synopsis, characters, weapons, geography, and some illustrations. I only glanced quickly at it so far, but it's finally out after many delays.

You should take a photo of it just in case it disappears during the night. At least that gives me hope that mine will show up one day.

Just got this email today from Amazon
Sega "Valkyria Chronicles: Design Archive"
Previous estimated arrival date: August 15 2011 - August 19 2011
New estimated arrival date: August 04 2011 - August 06 2011
And it's listed as shipping soon
Honestly? They could not have picked a worse time to ship it, considering the financial state I'm in, but I don't want to cancel it because I'm getting it much cheaper.

This must be what it feels like to see yourself in the past. Goddamn but Melissa was stubborn with credits. First the sniper branch in general, then specifically as an AT sniper, meanwhile Nichol kept getting those AT credits. Eventually gave up and just concentrated on getting people to any third tier class they could get.
Credit where it's due though, as sniper elite she made the finale a lot easier than I thought it would be.
Agreed, Artereris - it's frickin' immense, and dense with info going way beyond your usual art book fare. Interviews with designers on every aspect of the game's development right down to the music. Best art book I own - and that's including Okami's.
Also, did anyone else notice that on the cover, Jane is carrying Ruhm? That's awesome! As soon as I got that thing it went right into Jane's psychotic hands and never left 'em.
I always thought it was just personal preference, but now it's like, canon.

My art book came in today, and wow, is it ever nice.
I can't believe I got something like this for just over twenty bucks.
Why? Because it comes with a DLC code for VC3. Which I don't own yet. But will.
I'm a sick man.
Remember a week or two ago when I did the math about how much it would cost to fully DLC-ize your VC3 experience? I believe the price was somewhere in the mind-exploding 13400 yen range. Apparently, I forgot to factor in a 3000 yen statue, two 4500 yen DVDs, a 1-month SEGA mobile site membership (300 yen) and tracking down the pre-order bonus. So this game potentially costs somewhere around 25000 yen for the "full" experience.
When did SEGA become a huge dick? (I mean huge dick EA DLC style, not huge dick SEGA/Nintendo style)
I just finished the first October story mission in VC2, and the boss decided to deploy himself in the second zone deep without retreating/changing areas before my next turn started. 4 tank CPs later, I had a shiny S-Rank and probably impossibly low "lowest turns taken."

I got a ship notification for mine today. They say I'll have it Tuesday. I think Monday is actually a distinct possibility, since it's shipping out of Edison, which is only 30 miles away to begin with.
Most recent mission: On turn three boss plants himself in front of my tank, which has the turret that essentially let's me snipe with it equipped. That was fast. And it's December!
Anyway, I finished VC2. I really, really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I had to consult some guides for the final fight to confirm how to win. I was pretty sure I was doing it right, but I was worried I had misunderstood the mission information in Japanese.
I knew from the description that there was some non-tank, alternative source for the boss' powers, and it was pretty obvious that he had a radiator on his back. However, it seemed like it was covered by his protective shield. I ended up searching for a location that was fueling the shield, thinking I'd then be able to take him down via the radiator.
It turned out my snipers and lancers were simply missing the spot they were supposed to be hitting, hence why I wasn't making a dent at first. While I'd have preferred not to consult a walkthrough, I also once fought Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time for many, many hours (over 2 or 3 days) because I missed the part were someone told me I needed to use the Master Sword to kill him (the Big Goron sword was doing very well, thank you very much). I ended up losing a beat-the-game race that I was winning handily because of that. I don't screw around with "Why won't this guy die?" nonsense anymore now.
I'll probably pick up 3 next month when my spending money gets "recharged."
It was fun reading your posts playing VC2. Mostly because I remember some of the spots you got stuck in and having the same frustration. My last mission was pure luck so never had the problems others had. Never did go back and try to get everybody's stories unlocked. Maybe one day when I am bored and feel the need to go back.
I got my "your item has shipped" e-mail yesterday as well. So here's to hoping that it will soon be in my hands. Then I can once again wish for VC3 to be brought over. :P
Glad I could be of service. I don't feel like I was ever terribly stuck; often just frustrated by cheap/wonky AI that would then gift me the mission a few tries later. And I guess in that last one Melissa, Reiner and Bario's bad aim. I'd like to finish the classmate missions and S everything, but I'm not going to make S Ranks a priority. I'd rather finish up the story-based stuff and move on to VC3 or another JRPG sooner than later instead.
I think I'm going to play Chrono Trigger and Ys I & II either next or after VC3. I'm trying to switch to a more efficient game purchasing/playing system (to prevent backlog): buy game, play game, beat game, repeat.
Also, for those of you who are still praying VC3 goes West, my advice to you is learn Japanese. I don't mean this in a dick way either; our primary hobby is gaming, which is inseperable from Japan, Japanese and the culture here. Why not at least give it a try? Believe it or not, that's why I started studying Japanese in college. Sure, it may be unreasonable that your Japanese will improve to the point of understanding a JRPG overnight, but you'll get there eventually, or at least you'll be able to say you tried.
And according to some people, immersion is 9/10 of the battle. http://www.ajatt.com So even investing some efforts in difficult games now has a payoff.
I agree with you that immersion does help. But I can still hope. =P
Sort of back on track and one tipping point for me. For those who do have the Japanese VC3, does it have some kanji in it? Since I haven't looked yet on the Internet I was just wondering. I am assuming that it does since the only games I remember not having kanji in them are usually aimed at little kids (aka Pokemon).
Edit: Was in a rotten mood this morning, sorry about my original post for those who read it.

1. Chloe can't hit 5/5 in a clutch situation
2. The enemy can call reinforcements without bases in an area I've completely freaking cleared out.

And it made me sad inside. Carry on, thread.
I hear Welkin Gunther, think for a minute, and go "Oh right, Fishy McSketcherson."
Did they manage to sign Hitoshi Sakimoto on to do the soundtracks for VC2 and 3?
I dunno about VC2, but for the third game he collaborated with the Sydney Orchestra to produce the music.
