I'd really love to see Totalbiscuit do a video for the Steam version, since he only makes videos for PC games and is a known fan of this game. But he sadly won't, because he and Sega had a legal falling out a LONG time ago. And it's a goddamn shame, because he really would push sales of it.
The bad news is that the download looks to be a fairly hefty 20GB+, which is a pain for someone who has to watch their downloads. I normally don't, but we went a little bit overboard this month and I have to wait until before my next reset.
Japanese developers seem to rarely ever use compression on anything in my experience, so I kind of expected it.
I still can't believe I have Valkyria Chronicles sitting on my PC. It's there. In Steam. Fucking Valkyria Chronicles, one of my favourite games ever, is now on my PC. A year ago the idea was laughable.
Looking forward so much to seeing a whole new fanbase develop for it.

Problem is, now I'm staring at the entry in Steam all mad that I can't play it yet.
Yeah, it still blows my mind that this is even a thing. I wanted VC on PC badly - and if the Steam top sellers thing is in any way reliable, it just jumped to #8 from, like, 15 or something earlier today, so more than a few people are biting - but nothing short of a Sega IP fire sale made it seem even remotely plausible. Now I'm wondering who else might get on board, and whether I'd think the idea was completely insane until it suddenly happens.
It's not a whole new ballgame, but I think a lot of people are going to be very interested in how well VC does. Tuesday can't get here fast enough.
Yeah, I hope it does well on Steam and encourages other Japanese developers to port some of their console games over to the platform as well. There's a number of games I'd love to pick up, but I can't justify purchasing a console for just the one game which is a generation old at this point.

OK, so, I've heard that Vyse and Aika from Skies of Arcadia are in this game and I've also heard that there's no 'fixed' order in which non-plot troops join you.
So the big question then becomes, how can I best game the system to get Vyse and Aika in my army as quickly as possible?
Quick thoughts: it is exactly like the ps3 version except prettier and with faster loading. I'm playing with the controller, so no idea what kbam controls are like.
At the very least, it's a solid port. Now to play every spare minute for about a week...
Haha okay, the menus don't have a cursor. They're keyboard-only... and mouseclick confirms, not Enter. Kinda funky, but whatever.
Space is also confirm. The game can be entirely played with the keyboard, except that mouseclick confirms, right click is scope, and you can move the cursor on the tactic screen. You can use space, e, and the arrow keys respectively as well.

Fairly certain they're almost always available at the start (well, once you can recruit troops). Played through it a couple times and they were both there.
I had an issue with voices in combat being waaaaaay off pitch, everyone sounded like a chipmunk (but only during battles).
fixed it by changing to 48000 Hz in windows properties.
The game is much more fun when you disregard the grading entirely and just annihilate all the enemies. It's a bit silly that to get the best grading, half the time you run a single soldier across the entire field to capture the camp in one turn, while the rest of your squad is dedicated to finding the ace.
I remember that if you wanted A ranks the first time through, you had to do some hair pulling stunts, like sniper shots with lancers and the like. Oh and hope nobody dodges or ducks any attack too. Nothing will piss you off more than a soldier getting a sudden bout of clairvoyance and ducking a sniper round from across the battlefield. Behind him.

Guys, I just had a dream. VC sells so well on PC that Sega decides to port their entire library. You know, like Resonance of Fate... or... Bayonetta, in full 1080p, 60 FPS glory! Just imagine!

Yeah, kinda odd when the Bruhl fight has you get Welkin to an alleyway and it's better to just use all your CP to bolt over there. It's like he's just saying, "Excuse me, pardon me" as he walks past the four or five soldiers shooting him.
Also please let VC PC sell well so Sega ports Skies of Arcadia. SoA on PC is all I want.
I was also thinking of the first mission that you get to choose your deployment for. It doesn't even matter what you pick except that you need a stormtrooper deployed in the city area. You kill a commander/ace with Alicia and Rosey on the river squad (who are chosen for you) then pray for a lucky lancer shot and poor reaction fire with Largo, then sprint to the finish with a stormtrooper (who incidentally takes out a commander along the way, and barely makes it to the flag). You ignore about 90% of the enemies. It's the only mission I can remember the strategy for because it's ridiculous. You have to shoot a lance across the entire map to get it.
Speed based scores in a tactics game are dumb. I wouldn't mind if they didn't give such great rewards.

Now that it's on PC, I'm imagining what a proper mod community could do for and to the game.
Not trying to come up with specifics or thinking about the practicality, just... letting the thought wash over me.

It seems to be a solid porting job! A huge relief.

Also my steam seems to be "unpacking" the game right now. Get hype.
I never thought this day would come. I'm so happy.

If I hadn't checked this thread, I wouldn't have even started trying to unpack it before the usual Steam update hour in about 8h from now.

Aside from the controls it's a superb port, and you get used to them surprisingly quickly.

Precise aiming is set to the arrow keys, in case you're wondering like I was at first when I booted it up. I forgot how much I loved this game.
It's a shame such a large portion of the grade is slanted towards the speed in which you finish battles.

It affects the amount of experience gained at the end of a mission though, right?
A or S rank bonuses are usually worth 2 or 3 times as much as the base "Op Complete" rewards.
No. It really saves *that* quickly.
What sorcery is this?
If you think of it, there's not that many parameters to save. Not really surprising, it is nice though.
I guess that shows just how bad the PS3 was in some ways!
They could honestly skip over 2 and I wouldn't be that upset.
3 is the good sequel.

I hope this is not a sign of things to come.
I have to wonder if that was intentional or just some freaky coincidence.
Based on past experience with Sega marketing, I would heavily lean towards the later scenario.
