I didn't get a chance to play Beyond Good and Evil, so I will definitely pick up the HD remake.
Same here. A couple of years ago I started tracking down good GC games I had never played (as I was dirt poor when I first had my GC) and it was one of the only ones I was never able to find.
It's...decently priced on Amazon, if you can accept a used copy.
I figure if I keep buying the different versions of the game, Ubisoft will finally get the hint, stop making Rabbids games and finally make BG&E2...right?
RIGHT!?!
Whoops, I kept buying Rabbids games/merchandise, my bad.

BG&E is one of my absolute favourite games, so I'm gonna but the hell out of this. I actually own 3 copies of the game already. I just need the Xbox version to complete my collection.
Yeah that one is the one I'm most excited by. The others are kind of nice to see graphical updates and whatever, but with SoTC it's more than that because it's no longer being hamstrung by the PS2 hardware. SoTC with a solid 60 framerate is going to be amazing.
I've bought Bioshock twice. The original game stopped working for me because of the DRM or some shit. Consequently, that's also one of the last times I bought a PC version over a console version of anything. I now exclusively buy games on my 360 and not the PC. The exception are Valve based games, like Left4Dead 2. Because Valve are good doods and their games tend to god damn work after I've bought them.
They removed the activation limit for Bioshock less than a year after its release. If you tried to install it now, it should work. Plus, even the big studios seem to have steered away from SecuROM anyway.
Anywho, I think the one game I've bought the most would probably be MGS1. I've got the PS1, PC and PSN versions of it and I guess you could count the poor GC remake as well. I've got a few other different versions of games but that's the 'worst' one. And I'll probably own quite a few more in the next year or so, seeing as I'm pretty firmly on the 'yay HD ports' bandwagon (despite owning a PS3 with PS2 BC).
So we know that the 3DS won't launch until early next year because of supply shortages. Now the next question: Why was it priced at $300 bucks? Evidently, we can partly blame our own inability to keep a strong poker face -- or at least that's what Nintendo president Satoru Iwata seems to be suggesting.
As you no doubt know by now, the 3DS was recently set for release in Japan on February 26 for 25000 yen, or roughly $300. There have been complaints that that's a higher price than expected, and Bloomberg Japan reports that during a meeting with analysts, someone suggested to Iwata that the price might be too high. Iwata's response (according to Andriasang's translation): Nintendo simply priced the 3DS according to a "number of factors," one of which being "reactions to the system's E3 reveal."
Certainly, when Nintendo revealed the 3DS at E3 and gave those in attendance their first chance to get their hands on the handheld, many came away impressed. The lesson, apparently, is for everyone to keep their damn mouths shut about it next time if they know what's good for them.
(Also, yay about the BG&E HD XBLA/PSN release... I've been wanting to try that game for awhile)
Hell yes. I eagerly await previews of the remastering, and hope it doesn't suck. But even if it wasn't as stylistically pleasing as the first game, I'd probably get it anyway. Damn the fact we're not getting a sequel in all likelihood....
1. Madden NFL11
2. Mafia II
3. Kane & Lynch: Dog Days
4. Gold's Gym Dance Workout
5. Disney Sing It: Family Hits
6. Harvest Moon: Grand Bazaar
7. Ys Seven
8. Monster Rancher DS
9. Dora's Big Birthday Adventure
10. Mahjong: Journey Quest for Tikal
Note that for multiplatform titles, it combines the total sales gained from all platforms. Also, this list doesn't take into account digital sales, so something like Ys Seven which was sold on the PSN might actually have sold even better than it appears.

Ah, I was wondering if the Gold's Gym game would sell halfway decently. They advertise that thing endlessly at the gym's internal TV network.

It gets worse. You know that minigame where you had to make the rabbids goof off in the office when their boss wasn't around? You were making them goof off from making BG&E2.
Anyway, BG&EHD. Woo! Though it really might be a test case to gauge interest in a sequel.

It makes me feel warm and fuzzy to see Monster Rancher up there.
Time to whip out the DOOOOOOOM .gifs of your choice.
Nintendo's struggle to bring its hotly anticipated 3D-capable player to the market has sparked concerns over the outlook for the company, with sales of its existing products sliding in key U.S. and European markets.
Nintendo shares fell more than 9 percent on Thursday after the video game maker slashed its profit forecast for the year and said its new 3D-capable handheld player would miss the crucial year-end shopping season.
"We had been expecting a November launch for Japan, so the news was a disappointment," said Singapore-based analyst Atul Goyal of CLSA. "With a delayed product launch, the stock should be in a twilight zone, where it may not do much for the next five-to-six months."
Many analysts had factored in a 2011 launch for the United States, but were taken aback by the late Japan sales date, set for late February.
Nintendo blamed the strong yen and lack of hit software for its existing handheld DS and Wii home game consoles, as well as the late launch of the new product, for a downward revision to its profit forecasts.
The new Nintendo 3DS, boasting a display that can be used without special glasses, set gamers abuzz at the E3 gameshow earlier in the year and was seen as key to reviving the company's sagging sales.
Nintendo shares were down 9.3 percent at 20,870 yen at 1:03 a.m. ET, heading for their biggest one-day drop in nearly 20 months. Volume spiked to 2.7 million shares, already 4 times the daily average over the past three months.
The stock fell as low as 20,770 yen, a level last seen in December 2009.
The launch delay will put the pre-holiday spotlight on rivals Sony Corp and Microsoft Corp, whose new motion-controlled gaming accessories will be in stores in time for the peak shopping season in all major markets.
Based on Thomson Reuters StarMine's Analysts Revision Model, a measure of change in analyst sentiment, Nintendo ranks in the bottom percentile, placing it below Sony and Microsoft.
RED FLAGS
Nintendo will not launch the new version of its DS until February 26 in Japan and March in the United States, by far the biggest market for the game machine maker.
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata blamed the delay on inability to meet anticipated demand within the year.
"They are struggling with product transitions," said Jay Defibaugh, a game sector analyst at MF Global in Tokyo.
"Those are struggles that will be ongoing for the next couple years for their Wii and 3DS, and I think that raises red flags among investors for the company's fundamentals over the medium term."
At 25,000 yen ($299), the new model is also priced substantially higher than existing DS models, raising some doubts about likely sales volumes.
Nintendo's Thursday stock tumble was an extension of a 3.7-percent fall on Wednesday in a late-day sell-off triggered by the announcement of the product delay in the last few minutes of trade.
In other news, doing that post-mortem on Breath of Death VII has really rekindled interest in the game. Last week, we were selling an average of 60 copies a day. However, thanks to increased visibility from various websites covering the post-mortem, we sold 363 copies on Monday and 489 copies on Tuesday.
The MGS remake was very much awesome. Don't know why anyone would hate on it.
I'm not hating on it, I just felt like it was a different game.
The cutscenes were cool, as exaggerated as they were, and the game overall felt a lot more like mgs2 than one.

Well
It wasn't bad
But a lot of cutscenes and dialogue were changed for the worse
Anyways, neat about BG&E. Maybe I'll give it more of a shot this time around. I got it last gen when it dropped to $10 at Best Buy, but got stuck like an hour in or something like that and didn't care enough to continue. I am also morally opposed to French talking pigs.

Looks like gamers aren't the only ones with unreasonable expectations. "Delay?" The thing never had a release date to begin with!
Wow, they are really laying that on thick aren't they? I mean, because 3DS is not shipping holiday they are going to have product sitting in the shelves for months? Really? Pachter makes better predictions than that...

Yeah, we've been getting a lot of comments and emails expressing anticipation for Cthulhu Saves the World recently, so it looks like the post-mortem has helped there as well. Now, we just have to get the thing out!
And I can't say anything definite about a Steam release, but it's looking promising.

Stock dropping in price as a perfectly reasonable reaction to a company dropping its own profit forecast is non-news of the highest level.

If you can get it to PC somehow, I'll definitely buy it. No 360, but your game looks like it's a lot of fun. Goes for both of your titles. And there is something about preferring to spend money on something that was created by someone you know (as well as you can know someone on an internet message board, anyway) compared to created by a team of people with whom you have no interaction.

agreed. Even if BoD7 didn't look completely awesome (it does), I'd still buy copies just to show support.
The MGS remake was very much awesome. Don't know why anyone would hate on it.
It wasn't even remotely close to being awesome, it was terrible. The MGS2 gameplay mechanics broke the game entirely and they didn't redesign anything to compensate, reducing it down to one of the easiest games I've ever played. Any challenge and thus fun, offered in MGS1 is completely devoid from Twin Snakes. It's the worst kind of remake, bland.
Want to see a real remake? Go play RE Rebirth. Want to see Shadow Moses properly redesigned for better gameplay mechanics? Go play Act 4 in MGS4. Want to see a piss poor remake of an amazing game? That's Twin Snakes' specialty.
This year, the number of households owning at least one Blu-ray disc player has doubled since 2008 -- as of July 2010, 17 percent of American homes have one, thanks in no small part to PlayStation 3 consoles.
Although the number represents less than one household in five, it's still higher than the U.S. penetration of Netflix, which is about 15 percent, reports Home Media Magazine, citing a new report from market intelligence firm Centris.
A considerable 20 million U.S. households own both a Blu-ray player and a DVD player, according to the report. Among those Blu-ray owners, though, 45 percent have a stand-alone player -- and 47 percent watch those discs on a PS3. PS3 once had almost a two-to-one advantage over stand-alone Blu-ray players, a gap that's closed over the past six months.
The addition of a Blu-ray drive to the PS3 was initially somewhat controversial. Many consumers questioned the demand for a Blu-ray drive in the face of the PS3's unprecedentedly high launch price, but when HD-DVD players retired from the format war and the console's cost came down, the issue became far less-discussed.
Centris' report suggests that the PS3 was actually one of the primary drivers of Blu-ray adoption in the home, and that the format will have to expand beyond the PS3 audience if Blu-ray players are to see continuing growth.
DVD is still the primary format for video rental, the report continues. However, it also finds that those who own Blu-ray players are more active video consumers, renting and buying discs in higher numbers. Much of that Blu-ray audience is "younger, wealthier households with children," it says, which might explain the finding that Blu-ray households are more likely to own an HDTV and a video game console, at 75 percent versus 62 percent of DVD households.
"Although more Blu-ray households rented or purchase DVDs than they did Blu-ray discs, BD households actually rented or purchased more Blu-ray titles and DVD on average," says Centris' research.
Blu-ray owners still watching DVD? Maybe for the kids room or something? Thats the only time I deal with DVD anymore. But rest assured, when the prices drop just a little bit more, a blu-ray player is going in my son's room.

If I had to guess, I'd say at least a few other people are in the same boat as I'm in, in which case +90% of our DVD library isn't available in blu-ray (if not more), shows no sign of coming, and we're obviously not going to toss it. I did purchase Hot Fuzz again, and I'd likely purchase more of it in blu-ray (and try and sell my old DVDs), but that's just not happening.
I could also use my blu-ray player as a DVD player, but I hate the interface, so I just use my DVD player instead.

Your son has a 1080p high-def television in his room?
I mean, that's really the only TV I'd bother hooking up a blu-ray player to. Anything less, and what's the point, you know?
