Researching dildo hilts while having udon is kind of a weird thing.

Also this research has caused me to be slightly disturbed at the size of dildos. Some of those look more painful than anything.

There used to be a sex shop in the Castro called Jaguar and the centerpiece of their collection was a life-sized black latex foot.

She's undoubtedly crazy for many reasons, but I don't understand why people are giving her so much shit for the masturbation thing like it's unprecedented and bizarre. Christianity has seen masturbation as sinful since the beginning and many sects still do. I admit it's bizarre to see your Senator talking about it on MTV (and her phrasing was bizarre as well), but her actual position is not that strange. And I heard somewhere she also said her views have matured since MTV, although I didn't care enough to learn what that actually meant.

because, i'm sorry, but life without masturbation is a pretty depressing life.

life without lust of some type is a pretty depressing life.

And I frankly don't want somebody that crazily religious that she hasn't even thought of getting herself off when she was horny because it might possibly make her adulterous (she's not married) anywhere near my government.

    It bugs me.

You can live a fine life without masturbation or lust. I have at least two friends who don't feel it.

The real problem is when people think that others shouldn't do it, or, perhaps more depressingly, feel the urges but consider them wrong somehow. That's messed up.

Yeah, there are people who are as asexual as you can get.

There are also people who gets a boner looking at a moist hole in the ground.

Then there are people in the middle who just needs to jerk one out every once and a while.

I mean, shit, every once and awhile I just need to fucking rub one out. Whether it's because of some hot cock tease toying with me, or because I'm shit bored and that lingerie model in that catalog is pretty damn hot.

Telling people that masturbating is wrong is just....wrong.

And quite a lot of people would disagree with you. Arguing the morality of masturbation with you would be off-topic and a waste of time, but saying that's the position that makes her crazy is disingenuous.

And for the record, Christine has publicly made it clear she's not asexual.

The weird thing to me isn't that masturbation is right or wrong to people, it's that it's such a non-issue. If you want to pick fights about sex, there are plenty out there that people will be willing to fight with you. Abortion, gay sex, even birth-control, you'll get people on your side. But masturbation? Sure, some people will agree with you, but who's going to fight battles over legislating masturbation?

It's like adultery. Unlike masturbation, I'd say most people agree that it's bad. People do it anyway, but it's bad. But who's going to lead the charge on criminalizing adultery? Not very many people. Try to get even a church on your side, they'll say "Well yeah, we agree that adultery is bad, but right now we're trying to deal with other issues like abortion and we don't want to look like lunatics while we're doing it."

Y'know, I'm not overly bothered by her being anti-masturbation. It's a religious thing, I get that. It's the fact that she equates masturbation to adultery that gets me. That, combined with the whole "why would men have sex when they can just masturbate" line makes me think she regards all sexual activity as being interchangeable. Given her belief in absolute good and evil, that's not really a stretch -- anything other than vaginal intercourse between husband and wife is sinful, and all sinful acts are equally forbidden.

Not to mention that if masturbation is "cheating," isn't it also homosexual? I mean, you and your hand are presumably the same gender...

I'm also faintly horrified by her conception of what a "proper" marriage should be -- she's claims women should submit to their husbands, but at the same time she justifies the whole women-shouldn't-enjoy-sex bit by dragging out the old canard "woman give sex to get love, men give love to get sex." So her ideal marriage scenario is one where an obedient wife earns her husband's love by submitting to his every lust.

Then again, this is the woman who says that when she gets married and has kids, she wants them to "see Christ" in her husband.

I have a problem with her masturbation thing, when she thinks it should be stopped and is put into a position to legislate. Then her "religious thing" becomes my issue.

Even if she made a politically disaterous move like trying to push an anti-whacking it bill through congress, it would get shot down. There would be debate, some press, but I'd like to think that most of congress would shoot it down because they all know there's bigger shit that needs legislating, and frankly, calling a vote on such a measure would be a blatant waste of everyone's time.

You can do as much harm telling people that she's crazy when most people don't care about what she has to say on masturbation. I should clarify: When I said I didn't have a problem with it, I wasn't speaking of her as a Senatorial candidate, just her "philosophy" and psychology in general. Looking at it from that perspective, I see so much batshit that "anti-masturbation" is really a minor point compared to her misogyny and homophobia, her creationist apologia, her moral absolutism, and her paranoid delusions of importance.
