The point is that they looked at how their matchmaking system was wrongly predicting win %, found a couple cases, and adjusted accordingly, so in those cases some ranks are going to need to be adjusted and if you're in a team like that until your rank adjusts you're going to be playing unusually hard or easy games.
Ok, so now I'm backtracking from getting Udyr, mostly because there's been another meta shift with kiting apparently for team going Sona/Ashe/Janna (an I got alot of "Why Udyr?" in Vent when I was trying to decide). Who should I be looking to get. I have Garen, Tristana, Kayle, and Rammus. Hardly plays Kayle because of the meta, and Rammus because he shines mostly with certain combos, where someone like Amumu is always good.
So I like the look of Vlad, Warwick, Kennen and maybe Kassadin and Udyr. I want to play Yi, but I'm not sure I want the frustration.

I play with you a lot, so I'm gonna talk you out of getting Kennen.
I play Kennen...
But who talked you out of Udyr? Udyr can be awesome. Warwick is pretty slick, but really, you need to learn how to jungle effectively if you get him. Jungling is just what MAKES warwick.
I think Vlad would be a really good character for you, honestly Uber, good damage, decent survivability. I think you'd enjoy him a lot.
though, of those heroes, i'd go for vlad, kennen, or udyr. kennen is a hella good champ right now, and once you figure out how he works should be able to dominate a 1v1 lane and pump out tons of damage in team fights. vlad isn't so dominant in a lane, but is hella damage in teamfights and very hard to kill.

Well I've played Kennen and won most of the time. I was going to try Vlad, most of the time someone else on the team picks him before i get a chance, so I end up going Garen. Udyr appealed to me because he's tanky DPS, and perceived to be less "cheap" then Garen.
EDIT Also I'm only up to 3500 IP right now. I have the double boost which will get me another 800 roughly, assuming I win. A little way off for Vlad and the spell pen runes I'd need.
Says 0 keys available now, and I only got to claim 1.
This makes me sad.
Everybody gets one.
Yeah, I just got my friend one and he said there's still approximately 2000 left. You see that there's zero left because you aren't allowed to get more than one per account.
Maybe the best part of clairvoyance is that it like completely eliminates any attempt at people juking you in the bushes. Not that it matters since I am Sona and I will eventually catch them anyway.
Also, from my own anecdotal experience they are right on with the balancing change in matchmaking. A good level 30 player paired with like, anybody between 1-20 seemed to be a pretty good formula for the 30 getting 20 kills every game.
My 6 game win streak broken by a lamer team. We weren't even doing that bad and they surrendered. It was 4 votes to 1, mine being the only "No" vote. We still had all inhibitors and were only behind in total team kills by like 5.

Fucking quitters.
I've had weird matches like that. 30 minutes in and it's 6 kills (us) to their 4 kills and they surrender O_o. I think we were pretty even on towers too (albeit, we did get dragon a bunch).
Ok guys. I'm sure other discussions have been had regarding Sona, but I am starting a new one.
I've been having great success with her going with an item build like this:
Meki's Pendant + x2 Health Pots
Boots 1
Tear of the Goddess
Merc Treads
Archangel Staff
Rylai's
Guinsoo's
I'm basically just wondering what other people are doing with her. Like I say, I've been very successful so far with that build order but if someone has found something better, I am always on the lookout to improve my playing.
I start meki pendant, and either wait for the five gold for a sight ward or don't get anything so I can teleport back for a Tear faster. The potions could honestly be pretty useful since she has such low health and her heal is kind of terrible at low levels without AP, though, and there are times when I kind of wish I'd taken a couple, but not really. I'm usually more mana conscious than HP for the first six levels or so.
Teleport back either when you can afford the Tear, or Tear and boots depending on how laning is going. Then work towards Archangel's, then go back for boots of Mobility or Mercury Treads. I usually don't pick up blue buff, so I'll generally spam enough even with Tear that I'll need to go back for mana one time, but by then I'll usually be able to pick up the blasting wand or finish the staff.
Even with just a single point in E, I generally feel okay with waiting on boots if it makes the mana/AP come faster. With clairvoyance, wards, and being awesome Sona, there's not a lot of escaping that won't be handled by EWR, and your chasing is still perfectly suitable and more likely to be needed since you're actually dealing reasonable damage.
I like boots of mobility for speeding around the map, and farming any untended lanes since Sona's a bit gold hungry, and it helps for reaching your own teammates to bail them out of troublesome situations. I only take Mercury Treads very rarely. With move speed, clairvoyance, wards, and really good range on all of her abilities, it's pretty easy to keep yourself from getting out of position and focused by crowd control.
From there, I've generally been getting Aegis if nobody else picks it up, then Fiendish Codex into Deathfire Grasp. I've experimented a bit with the other cooldown items, but I've come to the conclusion that Deathfire is like the most suitable option in the vast majority of cases.
I honestly should probably pick up a Mejai's after the boots, like, first boots purchase. I've been looking at like, between 0-3 deaths, and 1-10 kills, 10-20 assists per game, so it would proooooobably be a wise investment but I've just never gotten into the habit of buying any snowball items ever.
Get blue potions whenever.
I'm not a huge fan of Rylai's since she only has a single multi-target skill it matters for. And her E has such a nice range that your team will probably catch whatever you're chasing whether you have it or not. Guinsoo's is actually interesting just for the ability power alone, but she's in enough need of cooldown reduction at that point that I don't give straight AP as much of a priority. Or I'd rather get some aura item.
I've always been kind of underwhelmed with Soul Shroud in general. I'd generally rather get Abyssal Sceptre over it.
So... final build.
Meki Pendant->Tear of the Goddess
Boots of Speed
(Mejai's Soulstealer)
Blasting Wand->Archangel Staff
Boots of Mobility (Mercury Treads)
(Aegis of the Legion)
Deathfire Grasp
Abyssal Sceptre
Blue potions whenever they fit in, and like a thousand gold set aside for sight wards.
Clairvoyance, Flash
9-0-21 masteries
Magic Penetration, Mana per Level (honestly don't really like these, but I'm not even sure what I'd replace them with), Cooldown Reduction, Health

I tend to build Sona tanky, as otherwise if the enemy team has any CC you will get stunned and can't run away and get blown up. And then your team loses the fight, so don't do that.
Meki+2HP
Tear of the Goddess
Boots 1
Blasting Wand -> Archangel's OR Catalyst the Protector (get catalyst if they're good at dashing/singling you out, otherwise you can get Archangel's first)
Merc Treads
finish the other item from before Merc Treads
turn Catalyst into Locket
Glacial Shroud
Sheen
turn the Shroud into Frozen Heart
turn Sheen into Lichbane
vanity would be whatever (going to attempt to get Manamune, but Abyssal Scepter would also be suitable)

I actually kinda agree with that Spec
Although Mejai's is great on her since she's such a pain in the ass to kill
You know, I actually tend to disagree about her needing more survivability. I typically don't have a lot of problems with getting ganked as long as I'm smart about my positioning in battle.

It was weird!
But at least it wasn't a bad game because I was playing Nidalee and had fun pushing while the enemy team was distracted.
By the time one of them even thought about heading back to defend a tower it would be long gone! Feels good man.
(I also kept pounce-juking an enemy Morgana's snare I bet she was mad)
also, if locket gave MR, it would be heavenly.
we had zilean, trynd, and cho'gath.
they kept DPSing me and trynd, and zilean would save us if we were even close to death.
Frozen Mallet is really good for killing her unless she manages to pull off a successful juke from the bushes.
i never get mallet on udyr.
amumu with rylai's however...
