the new item that looks firey and locket seem like good to build on sona
They're really not that great. You're better off getting a Tear early on and building yourself up a fuckhuge mana pool. She already has a speed buff. CDR reduction is hugely important on her but you're better off just runing/mastery'ing for that and getting Frozen Heart plus one more CDR item to hit the cap. As for other CDR, I'm thinking of getting Nashor's Tooth. Her AP ratios aren't that great so I'd rather make her quasi-Kayle and maximize her AD burst from her passive via Trinity Force.
So far I'm looking at:
1. Manamune
2. Boots of Swiftness
3. Frozen Heart
4. Trinity Force (Build Sheen early on! Like after Tear!)
5. Nashor's Tooth
6. Guinsoo's Rageblade
Basically, get her songs down to a 4 second cdr, continually spam the shit out of her music while attacking anything that gets near or hounding targets who're nearly dead. Sure people will go after you, but that's what a competent team that can cc the shit out of them so they don't is for.

Amumu is so fun, just wish I had the runes to use him effectively. Only runes I have are 9 of every attack speed rune and 3 attack speed quints. Damn that Kog'Maw rune set up and its super cheapness.
Anyone want to run some games sometime? I'm not terrible, level 30, and I'd like to reduce the amount of solo queues I do.

You know, I actually tend to disagree about her needing more survivability. I typically don't have a lot of problems with getting ganked as long as I'm smart about my positioning in battle.
Wait until Poppy ults you and beelines you in every single teamfight or Rammus goes straight for you or any other durable character who is great at wading through and has good movement. You may change your tune.
the new item that looks firey and locket seem like good to build on sona
Actually, IMO the Firecrest is kind of a waste on her. She really doesn't need the extra speed boost from the active and it's using up slots/gold that could be spent elsewhere.
None of those items even really help against Poppy except the Mercury Treads barely.
If you're in the middle of a teamfight and get stunned by someone then you're probably dead regardless of what defense you're building.
Off the top of my head, the only characters that really strike enough fear into me that I'd want to build extra defense for is Kassadin and maybe Akali.
I really really dislike locket on her. I'd rather just build like a Haunting Guise on her first.
Still getting used to Sona, she is fun. Still not convinced she is better than Janna.
Edit: I love locket on her. Locket means you will never run out of mana while granting you CDR and health. Soul Shroud or Spirit Visage following that also rocks, but honestly, in all but a handful of games the enemy team has surrendered before I can even build those <.< If I do build one, Aegis is next on the list unless the tank built it.

It's survivability (and it also depends what kind of Poppy and what damage you're scared of). You could potentially get an Abyssal Scepter instead of the FH if you so chose.
I find in general she does poorly against ranged carries if held/stunned for any period of time unless you make her tanky.
The Locket also gives more MP to convert into AP through Archangel's.
Yeah, I am fucking TERRIBLE with Kayle. I can not level her for shit and I seem to do piss for damage. Slapping myself with a heal and a 2-second shield does not stop me from just getting constantly wrecked whenever another hero comes around. Then in mid game I'll be level 10 or 11 and broke and everyone else will be 17 or 18 and have bought all their gear that matters.
Well over my last fifteen games or so I have gone like 14-1 which is by far the best stretch I've ever had which can only lead me to believe that Sona is ridiculously overpowered : (
Also at the end of the last game I tried to flash over a wall to escape four people trying to kill me but I messed it up but still got away with like a hundred hit points. Then I came back eight seconds later with half health. I do not think I have ever flashed over a wall properly : (

Kayle is a bit overshadowed right now, if you like the style she operates with (hanging back, hitting like a truck) try out Kog'Maw. The meta-game is getting harder on kayle, I wouldn't describe her as god-tier anymore, but just build up your items to DPS as much as you can and hit your carry with her ult to soak the damage (do not to protect from damage after it's already happened or your carry has begun to run away, unless he is still in danger of dying and you're simply slow).
Kayle is a difficult champion in solo queues, though, and perhaps not a fantastic choice. Finding people who understand that they can rely on you for an ultimate is almost impossible (good rule of thumb, assume the people you're playing with are idiots, because they likely are), which makes certain item decisions that are normally better for you worse, because you'll be picking up items to salvage their shitty play. Our carry decided to run away while he had my ultimate on him? That's fine! Because I have this stupid AP item, my heal hits for enough that he can fuck up as much as he wants, our opponents aren't any good, so they won't take advantage of the situation after I return some health points to his dumb ass.
So, keep that in mind, and good luck. Kayle is a good time.

Because everyone and their mother has been picking Sona, I've opted not to play her much this week for team balance, so I've been going back to learning Olaf.
Unfortunately, my teams keep insisting on having no tanks and Olaf be the only tough.
Taking an entire team's burst in the face is not too fun. Olaf's a beatstick, but I need farm to do that...
Those matchmaking changes are going to ruin the lovely win streak I've gotten from playing with my 9 year old brother. I'll make him a pro one day!
Also Udyr is a fantastic champion who can happily fight up there with the big boys. He seems to be the fastest at clearing the jungle and can happily solo the dragon at level 4-5 with Madred's, and with some difficulty without Madred's. I recall him being used at the WCG tournament recently.
Time to go to the bank. If I don't post later it's because my PC has been taken off me
I am incredibly frustrated playing as sona. You can't carry a bad team but you can make a good team awsome. So really it isn't any different then playing any other support in solo que.
I just don't get udyr. I like playing him as a classic carry with a bloodthrister and then a ghost blade, five in monkey and when you pop out of a bush bear fast with a turtle shell you get like 2 attacks a second dealing mad damage and you can switch into turtle pop ghost blade and heal like crazy. All while stunning and droping monkey dots. I see people going ap with phoenix and it looks effective when they do it but I can't make it work for me. What am I missing?
And the Sona win streak continues. I love this champion so much.
Healing and chasing and supporting and assisting everyday. Breaking 30 assists gives such a big smile.
Don't know if anyone else experienced this, but two games tonight I was playing with some premades. Halfway through the game (both times winning) the Riot servers kick me and my friend out. Our connections were fine, people were getting the boot on both sides.
This was a tremendous let down and I had to stop after the second one since it was such an inconvenience to say the least.
Udyr will probably be the next champ I get and learn how to Jungle with. Some one was nice enough to post a guide awhile ago but this thread moves so fast I think it's gone forever.
Jungling. Can someone explain the benefits of jungling for the jungler and the rest of the team? Is it just more gold and exp for the 3 people doing solo lanes(2) and jungle(1)? Only killing a few creeps at a time jungling really make you that much money?
As a jungler do you go into everyones jungle or mostly stay on your own side? And when does the jungling stop? Is there a level you stop doing it at or is it when a tower goes down?

You're correct on your assumption. It gives a rather sizable advantage against a non-jungling team. And yes, just jungling the creeps can really make you that much money. Although still less than a mass farming solo lane, but that's the point. Two solo lanes farming creeps and some guy making some sweet cash in the jungle.
As a jungler you generally stay on your side, especially when you first start learning. Ganking another jungler relies a lot on knowing jungle patterns and map awareness. Is he doing red? Blue? Did I place a ward? Should I head over? If you're not eve and just hanging by him, you probably are not going to know when he's very low without a ward. A single ward will give you a lot of knowledge of when you want to smack him around (or your team).
Jungling never "stops" as there's always baron/dragon to kill, and always buffs to get. Generally by level 8 or 9 teamfights beginning cropping up, so you should be helping out, ganking, or pushing where they're not. You stop jungling is a judgment call. Should I help gank this lane after both buffs? Should I push this tower with this guy? Should I hop in right now for a teamfight? That's your call.
So I've only seen this comp twice, but I have no idea how to counter it.
Sona + Soraka + Sion + two dps OR Sona + Soraka + Shen + two dps.
It's an aggressively unfun combo. The healing is through the roof, and if someone's not being healed they're lifestealing back up to full with their ult or Shen is shielding them.

If you want a 'smooth' jungling run, it relies on your team knowing to not be too aggressive until you, the jungler, get a little farmed and leveled up. If your teammates are idiots and are constantly overextending and having to go back, you end up having to cover their lanes for them and it's pretty easy to get out of sync.
I mean, sometimes it just happens, but when I jungle on Amumu, I get pretty pissed if people already get pushed out of lane at 4 (right as I'm going to do dragon) or before 6 (when I'm going to start ganking with my ult).
Last night I had 3 games as WW where I went 17/4/10, 11/2/4 and 12/1/6 and we lost all those games. In all cases my team didn't know how to capitalize on a decent jungler. I kept telling them to stay near their towers, especially the solo lane and to shout if they needed help or were going to blue pill so I could cover for them. But in the first game vlad, in the solo lane died 3 times and MF, in mid, overextended and had to 'b' without telling me so I had to interrupt a dragon kill and cover our tower which ended up going down anyways.
The other games were similar.
I'm learning that it's better to just play a decent carry in solo queue and try to get mid.
Yeah, I've been tearing up MF as WW. I just come out of the jungle when she's a bit hurt, like 3/4 health or something. Stun, hunters call and then bloodlust kicks in and I ghost/chase her down. With bloodlust active and the typical movespeed build I use on WW she doesn't escape. very often.
