I have a question about this game. Is it worth buying if I'm not going to play it online very much? I've never played Blood Bowl before, but I like hybrid sports games and board games. Its on sale for $10 at Impulse now and I'm tempted to pick it up.

Honestly, no
I haven't tried the new single player "campaign" thing, but the AI is still pretty godawful and it just isn't nearly as fun single player.
i applied for the league, my first online game too! Argarest Warriors, in game name Varega
I'll accept them into the league when I get home this evening, unless one of the commissioners (everyone in the league so far), gets to it first. Actually, I'm not sure if commissioners can do more than validate games/force matches, so I'm curious to see if they have the power to accept teams. Either way, welcome to league .

For $10 it's probably worth it. After a couple of weeks you'll be good enough to beat the computer 99/100 games, after that you have a couple weeks of amusement building super teams that you would never be able to build in multi player, and after that you'll be so hooked that you won't be able to stop yourself from seeking better competition online.
Also, with the new leagues, can you add additional coaches and teams after start-up? I am kind of full-up at the moment, game-wise, but will almost certainly be interested later.
Holy crap. I've been wanting to buy Blood Bowl for awhile now, and Steam's price for the Legendary Edition was still sitting at $40. Good thing I checked this thread, because that mention of Impulse just saved me $30.
Edit: Quick question. While I realize this is highly unlikely, can anyone definitively tell me whether I can use Impulse's cdkey to register the game on Steam?
Well, I already made a dwarf team. I started playing a campaign with them, though I haven't won any games yet. What exactly are their strengths? I thought they would be tougher, but their strength is not very high.

They are resilient, not strong, they get knocked down but not out. Also, with tackle they shit on dodge based teams. Also, with block on everyone you only fail a block on a roll of a skull

Basically, this. Dwarves are better and punching things through skill, and better at staying on the field thanks to Block and Thick Skull. They also destroy Dodge-based teams (Amazons, Elves) that try to go toe-to-toe with them.
However, they're slow, not very agile, and HUGELY expensive. Orks are faster, have an overall higher agility (and therefore more potential ballcarriers, though you should only really handle the ball with a thrower or blitzer) and are cheap as all hell. You can make a lot more mistakes and still do okay with Orks, while Dwarves are a little more 'pro' if that makes sense.
Basically, Dwarves are harder to play, but give huge rewards when played well. However, they suck against certain team types. Orks are much more versatile, and the number of STR4 players they can get can be useful. (Though I'd probably rather have Str3+Block than Str4.)
So I've gotten a bit better at this game. I still barely win any of my games-- its about 50-50 tie or loss. I am doing better with orcs than with dwarfs. I have the most trouble against elf teams. It seems like if they can sneak any players behind my line (which with their high agility isn't too hard), i'm pretty much fucked. Should I be leaving some blitzers a ways behind my line to try to deal with them?
Also, when I get better, would it be possible to hop in and play in your league? I'm definately not good enough yet, but give me a couple weeks or so and I will at least put up a fight (before ultimately losing :-P )

On defense you usually want to leave someone(s) back to keep your backfield safe, especially against dodgy or fast moving teams.
And even if you're still new to the game, playing against human opponents is 100% better for learning how to play. Playing against the computer can develop some bad habits due to the poor ai.
The traditional answer for orcs vs elfs is as follows; you cannot keep them from scoring. Instead, kick to them first turn, keep most of your team well back, and force them to score quickly (preferably turn 2) while you kill elves. Then never let them have the ball again, by virtue of good caging and killing more elves. Score on the last turn of the first half and the last turn of the second half.
If you're playing against the computer, you can scratch all of that advice and just kill elves until he has 2-3 left an dthen score as many times as you want. You won't be able to do this against a human because he will dodge away from you and score on you 5-6 times while you try.
Well, despite my lack of experience, I applied for the league. Hopefully, you guys can teach me how to play better in game (while having the satisfaction of an easy victory :-) ).

Just accepted you. We have 6 coaches now, so lets kick off league play tomorrow. I'll be around 9 EST to play someone. I'll hang out in the steam group channel for a couple hours if anyone is available. (If you arent part of the steam group, get in touch with Gnomed)
As a reminder to coaches that haven't signed up: You will still be able to sign up after we start the league play. The more the merrier.
We need more people to play. Did I get removed as a comissioner?
I just checked, and you still have commissioner powers. I'm not sure what they actually do, just validate matches and accept applications (for any new team or any team from the PA open league).
Played my first two games online today. Lost the first, tied the second. Not too shabby, considering my experience. We totally need more people to join the new league. Tell your friends! :-)
I played a match against Varega's lizardmen. It was a close match decided by a few failed pickups on the lizardmen's end. The orcs won 2-0, but suffered the sad loss of their thrower orc, who was killed by a saurus. A turn later a skink was sent to take a dirt nap in retaliation. Unfortunately, the matched must have been considered Unranked; i changed the league rules so that all challenges are ranked to avoid anyone else making the same mistake.
The second match i played was against cpu for some hot orc on orc action. It was a tie. There were casualties on both sides. I think cpugeek ended up with a strength busted blorc and i ended up with an armor busted lineman.
Good games, gents.
Edit: Again, even after the league has started, i think we are able to take late applicants.
Bought this a few days ago and would love to take part in the league (even though I probably still stuck), but I think Australian time zone is gonna make scheduling any matches way too much hassle. Is the AI really that bad at the game? I'm still playing it on easy at the moment, but so far it seems to completely lack any ability to actually move the ball forward, spending all its time huddling players around whoever is holding it instead.

You can totally join our league. I'm really new to this game too, but I'm having a lot of fun playing it online. Also, don't worry about timezones. I'm currently living in China, so you at least have one other person on this side of the world to play it with. I'll be idling in the steamchat for the group whenever I have free time.
Also, we should really set some game times for this league. Maybe two days a week?

Tiger, as far as I know, it is just like a private Auld World, so you can join later once things calm down on your end.

hrm, weird. I sent it again, hopefully it goes through.
EDIT: are we sure the league is set to open? Its showing as championship.
Interestingly enough, you can now enter matchmaking for multiple teams at once..
I would recommend playing as Dwarves, Humans, or Orks to start, since I seem to recall them being the most straight forwards.
Once you get the hang of the game, Chaos is a really strong team when levelled up.

I double checked the league rules and it is set as open, but the rules summary still says championship. :?

Orks. Definitely Orks to start with.
If you want a (slightly) faster team, Amazons are okay, but not much faster. Almost as tough as Orks though, thanks to them all having Dodge.
Humans can do anything, but do it worse than specialised teams.

I made a game, it has penguins in it. It's pay what you like on Gumroad.
Currently Ebaying Nothing at all but I might do in the future.
