I went ahead and ordered it. I had around 2031 on their low rez (720p), but it did not seem like it was struggling. I think the benchmark needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

So whats it look like in the content department? Is it still just the main quest + your guildleves, or are there a lot of side story quests to be found?
As far as I can tell, there is very little content outside of what you mentioned. Not too many side quests from what I have seen so far.
Edit: If you could start saving them up for me, that'd be great. Armorers need them to make the shield, and I can see the shield being a high demand item. I plan on churning out shields as soon as I can make them for everyone who needs them.

I don't think I'll be playing this game till like the 5th. Late start, but my current laptop can't really handle it and I don't get my new computer till then.
Just a little heads up. I signed up to pay with click and buy on Wednesday, and apparently on Friday someone tried to use my card online to buy $800 worth of airline tickets. There were a couple of tiny "test" charges as well. My bank declined all the big ones, so I'm not really out any money. The card is deactivated and I should be getting another soon.
I can't say 100% that it was related to click and buy, but in doing a little research it seems that I'm not the only one that this happened to. Don't want to start an argument or anything, it's just a heads up.
BTW, has anyone seen the crysta cards in a brick and mortar?

So, is it just me or are the social aspects of this game just a little ... behind ... other games. Examples: needing to be standing next to someone to add them to the linkshell/a party. Yes, there is that recruit tool, but that seems overly complicated just to play with a friend. Does anyone think this is something that may be streamlined in the future, or is this just a Squeenix thing that I'll learn to deal with?

God I hope so. There are NO guild management tools in this game. I can only add or kick people I am standing near. I can't see when was the last time a person logged in.
I won't be able to clean out inactive linkshell members.

when a character is deleted from existance, do they auto-drop from the linkshell?
i really hope so, because i rerolled my character. very sorry if he didn't vanish out of there.
3 reasons i rerolled.
1) my onion hat still wasn't showing up, and forgot all about my armbands from getting FFXIII on PS3 back in March. wanted to apply those for the stat bonuses.
2) i had a facial cosmetic change i really wanted to do. now he's exactly as he should be.
3) changed my old character name: Pidge Smidgen (didn't like having the name of the most annoying voltron character)
my new character name: Nimh Nimbus (now a resident of Limsa Lominsa). looking for an invite again if possible. thanks!

Someone mentioned in-game that macros drastically can improve the horrendous clunkiness of casting in this game. Anyone have a link to a means of setting up said macros for the uninitiated?

Thanks to Mheso, I am now able to make Slate-Grey or Taupe sheep leather, and Grey or Taupe sheep leather straps. If you're in need of a piece of equipment or a part that would require the use of any of these dyed sheep leathers. I'd be glad to help you out.
One synth, I know of off the top of my head, is the Bronze Hatchet (r10), which requires grey sheep leather strap.
I don't know where we stand on the Dodo Leather Strap demand at the moment, but I think I can attempt another set of 12 later this evening if it's something people still need it.

Even if they were, there won't be much to do to fix your latency except move to Japan.

Yup, but the only lag is when you are in major populated areas. And even then it's not input lag but other strange lag.
