She's a great case, aside from the fact that when I built this machine I didn't realize the drive bays went all the way back. This led to me pushing the bays in and snapping SATA cable connectors inside of the front-facing SATA ports.

I have three HDDs instead of the six I should have.

My work setup is pretty disgusting, a crummy old computer, crummy old screen, piles of paper everywhere, and there's always around 20 laptops on my desk or on the floor because there was so much paper on my desk the laptops wouldn't fit.

So in the interests of not depressing everyone, I'll show my home setup instead, which is where I do my programming and uni work. It's a little simplistic and undecorated at the moment, partially because I'm not sure how long I'm going to be staying here, but it does the job for now.

    Here's my contribution:

    u1aFn.jpg

For some explanation, you can see:
    Pills
    iPad + keyboard
    iPhone
    Sharpie
    GBA + games
    Gum
    Checkbook
    Earbuds
    Wallet
    Bed

    2x Samsung SyncMaster 2233 (120hz) displays
    Old Logitech G15 keyboard
Microsoft SideWinder X3 mouse (piece of shit)
    audio-technica A700 headphones
    Wired 360 controller
Klipsch subwoofer (matching speakers on shelf above)

The flash on my camera really makes everything really ugly. Like you can see all the fingerprints and dust everywhere that I can't normally see with my overhead lighting.

Pardon the shitty appearance; at the taking of this picture brightness settings weren't working in Lion, so the brightness on the iMac's display kinda blows out the remainder of the picture.

Edit: Though it seems to be fixed now in 10.7.2, so maybe I'll resnap this when I get home.

    If anyone cares enough.

It's based on the 1814 Japanese painting The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife. Considering the period the game takes place in and its overall artistic style, it's appropriate.

The game itself has an area based off of Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa.

    Here's my home setup.
    Desktop_001.jpg
    Samsung 23" HDTV/Monitor on a Ergotron Arm.
Logitech G9 mouse. Logitech mic and camera.
Focusrite Saffire 6 USB Audio Inteface
KRK Rokit 5 (left channel not shown)
Old Apple 20in Cinema Display I keep for when I need a second opinion editing photographs (Nice IPS panel compared to the kinda crummy one the Samsung)
    Beyerdynamic DT231 Headphones
The external audio interface is great. I can run switch between speakers and headphones just by using the knobs, no mousing or clicking, and the sound is much cleaner than the headphone ports on my case. Balanced audio out to the studio monitors is a plus too.

Here's my temporary setup for the next 3-4 weeks. Apologies for shitty phone camera quality and note the single birthday card, it arrived a day late too.
And yes, that monitor is nestled on top of some duct tape. So versatile! The desk we made at home as well and to be honest, it feels better than the one I have in my room. That one is way too big. I need a slide out shelf for the keyboard though, once I get a monitor desk bracket, I'll need to sit a little further away from it.

The keyboard is a Samsung MiniKeyboard model number SKN-5100CB. It's a Korean/English Keyboard, and I bought it here in Korea. Not sure how easy it is to get outside of the country, but here's a link I found

    It's quite nice.

And yeah, its a squeeze but its only for the month, until the 'rents are back. Then I get back my room and giant desk.

edit: Oh the room itself is big, much bigger than my own bedroom. It just appears cramped because I put the desk in the alcove, next to the chimney breast.

I'll add my work-station to the pile.
Two desks. One was built into the closet, the other is an art desk from Dick Blick. (You can't tell in the photo, but I've got notes scribbled all over the surface of it.) The cube on the right of the art desk is filled with the books I use for reference. Under the desk is a trash bin and a bunch of old sketchbooks. And various art supplies littered all over the place.

    workstation1.png
    workstation2.png

The room is very small, so I had to cram my entire "office" into one corner. But that's fine. I like having everything within arm's reach. XD

I love my white desk, but there's a reason I have one of those giant Razer mousepads that goes under the keyboard too. Less white dusty surfaces. I have to wipe down the entire surface of my desk at least twice a week or it looks disgusting.

I feel like I should really get both a better mouse, a big old mousepad and potentially a mechanical keyboard. The tactile feel of my basic Dell KBAM is ok, but not really suited to gaming I don't feel

Nice one. I was looking at this Logitech G400 mouse with this Leopold Cherry Brown keyboard. They're within my comfortable price range and seem to be good enough for my needs.

I've had a play with a couple of different Cherry mechanical keyboards (Red, Blue, Black and Brown) and Brown seems the best one for me and I'm keen to have a PS/2 input device for both the key rollover and so I can free up a USB slot

I don't mind Razer products (my Characias headphones are still going keeping me happy and the onza gamepad is excellent) so are the Black Widow and Mamba worth the extra $100?

Yeah, the Razer stuff is pricey, but I like it. I wanted a backlit mechanical keyboard, and the options for those are very slim. It's a great keyboard if you like cherylry blues, which I do. CLICKERCLACK

I got the mouse a year or two ago with a Best Buy gift card. Mainly because I love the Razer Deathadder / Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer form factor, and the Mamba is basically that + wireless.

    Plus they look good =]

I love my mamba. But of course I loved the deathadder, and the mamba is basically a deathadder with higher DPI and better button placement for DPI adjustment, alongside the whole dual wired/wireless mode.

I'm not sure it's worth $100 more than a deathadder. Sure heavenly if you've got some cash to spare on a mouse, though.

Sometimes I just take the mamba, set it on my mousepad, and spin it while I stare at it lovingly.

As always, I'll point out that I find razer products aren't durable enough and their branding embarrasses me every time I buy something by them in a brick and mortar.

Just to be clarify, if I went with MI's combo it works out to be $150 more than the combo that I had originally considered here in Australia. I'm not working under a budget ceiling; I'm just looking for perceived sweet spot I guess, which is always the million dollar answer.

To tie it back in to desktop aesthetics I too sometimes struggle with some of the garish 'gamer' designed hardware out there. It's exacerbated for me in this situation because it's for a PC that ostensibly my home office computer and is in a pretty prominent position of the house. I'd be lying if I say I don't find it a little bit embarrassing sitting there with my all my gamer paraphernalia going.

I guess the TL;DR of it is that I want to combine the quality and performance of high quality gaming gear that's not covered in neon red dragons
