I imagine it's harder to pull off in games because you're dealing with a completely artificial environment and would have to manually created the world of sound, as opposed to just using a field recorder in the "real world" to make a binaural.
Not impossible, but a lot of work for probably little pay off.
Speaking of obscure publication findings, the other day I came across about 8 years' worth of my old childhood Zoobooks magazine collection.
Strangely enough, one of them -- specifically, the Wolves issue -- is addressed to someone named "Andrew Newburgh," even though it's at my same address. This is also the only issue out of the entire collection that has a beat-up cover and ripped pages; every other issue is pristine, since I really took good care of these books as a kid. So peculiar that I never noticed this one odd issue before...
I feel this strange desire now to discover who this mysterious person is, why they had a Zoobook sent to my home, and why the copy is in such a crappy condition.
Guys, here is a sort of funny email reply I wrote in response to someone asking me to do a considerable amount of work for naught but potential exposure.
Being that we are Men & Women of The Arts, I thought that I would share:

Eh, some of the biggest clients I ever worked with (Nasa, Target) were directly the result of having done free work for somebody else. Though I think in order to get that kind of work out of 'exposure' the exposed you has to look like a professional.
That gave me a chuckle Grenn, but you can't really blame them for asking. If they cast their net wide enough eventually they'll find a (probably inexperienced) "designer" who will do (probably terrible) work for them "for free". A huge amount of new artists don't understand or lack convidence in the value of their work.
Plus, personally speaking, asking for free stuff can be quite the rush. You'd be surprised at the amount of things that can be aquired for free if your ballsy enough to ask for them. Sometimes, even, the larger the thing the easier it is to get since most (decent) people aren't brazen enough to ask straight out.
After work I feel really bruned out, so I hardly do any design outside the office. But, when I work for free it's either for a cause I believe in or a project that I think is really cool. I really hate it when people come up to me saying "Oh, it's gonna be easy! It's just a logo!"
I feel like, were I the owner of a company looking for someone to design the most prevalent aspect of my corporate image, the thing that goes on every product, flier, and letterhead I put out, I would probably want to at least pay someone to do it, no matter how small my venture is.
Basically there needs to be an artist's union for designers and illustrators to protect them from themselves.
Unfortunately these days all it takes to be a "designer" is to download Photoshop. No understanding of industry, business, professionalism, or even bloody ethics, is required!
Bottom line: if you don't value your work, how do you expect your clients to?
Grenn, have you seen significant benefits from joining a guild/society? There is one for illustrators and one for animators as well. I've considered applying but the dues are tough for my budget.
What a shame when one man suggests to another man, without the faintest hint of sarcasm, that he might feed, shelter and clothe himself and his family with the suggested currency of opportunity and exposure.
Okay, so I'm thinking of a change of plans. Instead of staying at this university for four years, I'll graduate early and only stay here until my lease runs out at the end of next summer.
Pros: I get to save myself a lot of money by leaving here early, I get to leave this boring town and start devoting my time to what I actually want to do (art), and I still get to have a degree.
Cons?: Face the scary real world a little earlier. I don't want to move back in at home which means that while I'm here over the summer I need to figure out a place to work and live in a city somewhere. I don't consider this too much of a downer because I will need to do it when I graduate anyway and I don't think staying here another year would make me any better prepared to do that.

What do you folks think?
Are you sure you wanna do art? If you know what you want to do with your life, it's much easier to make a plan. I think a lot of people would benefit from taking some time off between high school and college to figure out what they want to do. I'm not sure if that helps or not.
Ugh. This advice sucks.

Doesn't sound like there are any cons lyrium, all your doing is postponing life, which in my experience, while comforting, is never a good idea.
Yeah, I'm sure of what I want to do. I just need to take the jump and figure out how to feed and house myself while I do it. Thanks for the support, folks!

Good on you man - went through a similar thing myself and although it can be scary in some ways it's definitely the best way to find enjoyment in life.
Haha, good advice. Luckily my food need/budget is pretty small. I'd need to gain a bunch of weight just to not be underweight on the bmi scale, much less prepare for lean times :P

WOO for being too skinny!
Being at home has the benefit of food and a kitchen that I can actually keep clean. I am taking advantage and have put on a few pounds but Im 117, should be like 125ish. I have trouble eating when Im not "OH SHIT IM STARVING"
Anyways, lyrum it sounds like you know what you gotta do, good luck!
I usually don't actively look for food until I'm near death from starvation. But if there's food just sitting around, like pizza or something, I'll eat all day.
Fortunately, and unfortunately, I can't seem to gain weight.
Also, I may have asked this before but... Why is it when someone finds out you even have the slightest interest in drawing, they instantly want tattoos. And of course they want them for free. And then pretty soon everyone they know knows you draw and they also want tattoos? I always end up saying ok, even though I have no intention of ever drawing it. At least my closest friends know this and don't bother even bringing it up.

Ahhh I remember the days when I couldn't put on weight even if I tried.....good times.
These days I need to run up hills that look like / if I want to shed a kilo.

117 sounds like sooo little. I weigh exactly 100 lbs. more than you do. Then again, I'm probably much taller. You are probably tiny. So very tiny.
Last night I was helping Rickey Gervais sell his old couch. It was the one he and Stephen merchant used while they recorded their podcasts for their XFM Saturday arvo show. He was going to throw it out when I suggested he may as well sell it and give the money to charity. He agreed. We tried selling it on Ebay but no one seemed interested. He said he was going to be a guest on Letterman next week, so he will announce the auction on t.v.
Of course this was all a fun dream. Thats what you get for falling asleep with podcasts playing in your ear at 4 in the morning.

100 is... 100 is less than 117 d-robe. I'm about 5'7-5'8 range, Average hight just kinda underweight. Its steadily going up since I had a bit of stomach trouble two months ago.

Enjoy.
As someone who is this very second mired in crap I am doing cheap or free for friends and acquaintences.... :^:

While not quite the same as unions, there are organisations that fulfill similar roles such as http://www.graphicartistsguild.org/ and http://www.aiga.org/.

Also, if you ever get to Alaska, I'll let you sleep in my car so you don't freeze to death. You'll have to get out in the morning though.
