Hello everyone. Long time lurker here. I bought Minecraft not too long ago and I've run across a bug. My current project is the floating island from Feel Good Inc. and I'm working on the fans of the windmill. I'm using wooden fences to make the fans but halfway down for some reason when I remove the dirt block that I want to place a particular fence on, every wooden fence on that level and above turns invisible. They're still there, just invisible. I haven't found any info on this and was curious if anyone else found the same problem.

    Here's a visual.
    Glitch1.jpg
    [IMG][/img]Glitch2.jpg

I had this happen to me last week while I was building a house on stilts, I gave up on trying to fix it and just decided to "deal with it" and have one entire leg invisible.

    Logged out of the game.

Came back later and everything that had been invisible was now visible.

Minecraft needs a basic direction, something I can strive for eventually. Currently I feel like I'm making these (awesome) buildings for nothing.

Although, exploring, mining and making these buildings is fun, it just feels mildly empty...

Luckily, Notch has said that he's going to make some awesome ending that will be so crazy to get to that very few will actually get there. I'm hoping it's going to involve creating multiple awesome buildings in some way...

Pretty sure you can't make DIAGONAL TRACKS ( read: ANYTHING) in Minecraft. Laterally, anyway. It all has to go exactly north, south, east, or west.

And I guess zig zagging it is just too ugly or something?

Zig zagging actually counts as diagonal for minecart tracks. Looks funky, but when actually riding on it the cart will travel diagonally.

Try to imagine traveling a mile or two along that.
    Yeah.

You don't actually zig zag though - you move in a smooth diagonal the same way you move on a straight line. It just LOOKS funky on the ground. Functionally, it is diagonal.

According to the forums, it's also faster. Apparently diagonal track which goes from point A to point B at the ends of legs of a right triangle will arrive at the same time as a horizontal track from point A to C despite having traveled a greater distance.

Hopefully he'll get biomes in this week's update though.

    Edit: Beaten bad

I'm really looking forward to biomes and holding off on doing anything major until I can start a new world with them.

SMP being more stable with mobs, health and working minecarts are IMO higher priorities than biomes at the moment.

Biomes, while nice, don't really make many functional changes to the game - its mostly cosmetic.

Who makes plans in their sleep, or as they lay down for the night?

I have a one hour commute to & from work.

    I plan while I drive.

    During lunch, I delve. :winky:
It's like Journey to the Center of the Earth, but cooler.

Found myself a wonderful cave system within my frozen wasteland of a snow world. I set up a base at the entrance to the cave and started torching my way through.

This is what I think I like best about minecraft and it took me a while to pin it down. As a kid, I loved going into caves on field trips, and always wished I could explore & discover these sorts of things myself. Minecraft lets me do that, AND gives me precious ore to mine.

However, Notch did mention something about an occasional night of evil (I forget exactly how he phrased it) where things are especially nasty. That, along with the dragons he's mentioned could be really fun to deal with.

I'm especially looking forward to redstone trap doors which he says he's going to do. Floodgates would be nice too.

Well, he's actually been working on biomes the last couple weeks.

And, ignoring the fact that I think the cosmetic change would be awesome (see Ein's map), the biomes are supposed to have different resource distributions so they will have an important impact in terms of locating resources.

I wouldn't say no to the occasional feature tossed in, rather than just making SMP closer to Survival. Except for a couple of minor changes the only thing that's changed in the last +month in SP is that things got buggier. :P

If multiplayer gets a true "survival" aspect to it, I would want death to have a pretty deep impact. I like the idea of everyone working together to keep everyone else alive.

The lack of "survival" in SMP right now makes me not care quite as much about MP servers. The fear of death is what makes my burgeoning Ice Fortress feel so important to me. So, as much as I love the PA servers, I haven't logged on much except to gawk. (There is a lot to gawk at!!)

yes, I feel the best comparison between DF and MC is that Minecraft is like playing a single dwarf in dwarf fortress.

adding neutral and enemy camps. Travelling caravans and possibly adding a very slight progression aspect to the game would make it so much more addictive and make exploring and teamwork in SMP much more rewarding.

May I make a suggestion with the super trail project in Ein's server/land? You are planning on using a boat system, so for long distances over the water sections, why not use buoys and lighthouses/landmarks to help guide the traveller to their destination, which presumably would be a dock/harbour of somekind that joins up to your canal/aqueduct system in the over/under land parts.

Create a room of obsidion with iron doors. Remove all items from them. Remove their ability to /warp or /home, etc. Teleport them there, laugh. Laugh heartilly.

Hell, put the jail in the middle of town.

I remember hearing in the recent interview that one of the things Notch wants to work on after Beta is out is the ability for players to add mods to servers. I cannot WAIT for this. Notch has said that he really has no interest in putting the crazy-mechanics-animated-gif-style thing together, but I'm sure that someone ELSE will, given sufficient modding tools.
