MINECRAFT - Build to the sky, Dig to the depths. Join the masses.
Posts
I had this happen to me last week while I was building a house on stilts, I gave up on trying to fix it and just decided to "deal with it" and have one entire leg invisible.
Logged out of the game.
Came back later and everything that had been invisible was now visible.
Although, exploring, mining and making these buildings is fun, it just feels mildly empty...
Luckily, Notch has said that he's going to make some awesome ending that will be so crazy to get to that very few will actually get there. I'm hoping it's going to involve creating multiple awesome buildings in some way...
According to the forums, it's also faster. Apparently diagonal track which goes from point A to point B at the ends of legs of a right triangle will arrive at the same time as a horizontal track from point A to C despite having traveled a greater distance.
Notch did say he was going to add 'Unfair mega monsters'
I think it would translate very well to a tower defense spinoff. Add an assortment of constructable turrets, build during the day, and defend against increasingly difficult waves of enemies at night.
SMP being more stable with mobs, health and working minecarts are IMO higher priorities than biomes at the moment.
Biomes, while nice, don't really make many functional changes to the game - its mostly cosmetic.
And god yes I want epic mega monsters slumbering in the depths. And giants roaming the land that you have to fight off, lest they plow through your fortifications.
I have a one hour commute to & from work.
I plan while I drive.
During lunch, I delve. :winky:
Found myself a wonderful cave system within my frozen wasteland of a snow world. I set up a base at the entrance to the cave and started torching my way through.
This is what I think I like best about minecraft and it took me a while to pin it down. As a kid, I loved going into caves on field trips, and always wished I could explore & discover these sorts of things myself. Minecraft lets me do that, AND gives me precious ore to mine.
I mean really, it's like being a kid again.
I wouldn't want it in a wave form.
However, Notch did mention something about an occasional night of evil (I forget exactly how he phrased it) where things are especially nasty. That, along with the dragons he's mentioned could be really fun to deal with.
I'm especially looking forward to redstone trap doors which he says he's going to do. Floodgates would be nice too.
Well, he's actually been working on biomes the last couple weeks.
And, ignoring the fact that I think the cosmetic change would be awesome (see Ein's map), the biomes are supposed to have different resource distributions so they will have an important impact in terms of locating resources.
a la Dwarf Fortress.
Depending on how trap doors work you could turn them into floodgates.
Also, do normal doors block waterflow?
Yes.
But so do open doors.

adding neutral and enemy camps. Travelling caravans and possibly adding a very slight progression aspect to the game would make it so much more addictive and make exploring and teamwork in SMP much more rewarding.
...
Pretty sure we're going to make it zoom around the scenery and be interesting, and not just go straight from point A to B. That's just a diagram of how the stations should be connected.
Will there be an update this week?
According to his blog he basically has no time programming anything right now.
Create a room of obsidion with iron doors. Remove all items from them. Remove their ability to /warp or /home, etc. Teleport them there, laugh. Laugh heartilly.
Hell, put the jail in the middle of town.
Bwahahahaa.
Edit: Extra fun - Cover the floor of the fail-jail with fences, so they can't move without rubber-banding around.
Actually you'd make the jail out of Adminium (aka bedrock), which is entirely indestructible (except by mods/admins).
@klyka: He stated on Monday that he was getting a little bit of development time in, we'll see how much he gets done by friday
Actually this is a great idea, because when they login, they spawn the same spot they left off.
Bunting, Owls and Cushions! Feecloud Designs
The only problem is you have to make sure you don't have /warp commands (at all, even /home) otherwise they just warp out.
Nice to see that the guy seems to be getting all his ducks in a row regarding the best possible way of setting up/structuring his start-up.

No, and it takes forever to mine obsidian even with the diamond pick.
Banning is quick and easy. Public justice is just fun for everybody.
If you zoom in close you can see the red lines aren't diagonal. Problem solved.
Are you sure? I thought every non-liquid block take can eventually be mined by hand.
Hell, the idea of simply building a prison because I can is appealing.
Then again, that's usually why I build anything.
BECAUSE I CAN.
Nope, obsidian requires tools. And only a diamond pick will harvest a usable obsidian block. 1 block takes 15 seconds with a diamond pick to harvest.
Following the obsidian talk. What do you make with obsidian that's worth all this time?

Well, I was planning on getting to work on an intercontinental waterway travel system once I finally manage to actually get on the server (real life and all is so inconvenient).
I'd love to get some dialogue going with a few others to plan something out as it's a daunting task for just 1 man.
Regarding the fields below Columbia. I was thinking that we could build the water-way underground there.
