-- it was confirmed that, as teased at the end of The Grim Hunt, Ana Kravinoff kills her brother, Alyosha.
I think it's kind of unfortunate. Though he appeared in a couple stories I didn't care for, I thought he was an interesting update on the old Kraven, at least as he appeared in McDuffie's Beyond! mini-series. It seems like a waste of a character, really. Though, after Fraction basically turned him into old-Kraven, and the Spider-Man writers seemed happy to followed through with that interpretation, I guess it doesn't really matter, since the old version's really been gone for years.

Marvel Girl #1 was really, really disappointing.
First, the art was good and very nice and expressive, but it looks like Nuno Plati also colored the issue. If you can remember the issues Kaare Andrews drew for Ultimate X-Men, and how bright and hard to read it was on page, it's kind of the same thing here. And the pink color used to highlight Jean's powers can really mess with your eyes (there's a double page splash that is 95% pink and white). There is a big difference in going from an online viewing of art and seeing it printed on paper; bright colors really don't work well in print form.
As far as the story goes
Jean goes home because she's lashing out at everyone, so she goes to the local mall in her hometown. This mall now apparently has all the kids who used to be there doing nothing with their lives. A friend of Jean and her dead friend Annie who used to play at the arcade now works there, giving up his dreams to be a governor. And a lot of other kids are now working in the mall.
So Jean thinks it's some psychic demon or something and comes across a telepathy ghost of Annie who turns into a demon. But nope, really it was a part of Jean's imagination spurred on by Xavier in order to overcome her feeling left in the past. But it's very flaky on what exactly happened to the people in the mall. It gives the impression that a) everyone gave up on their dreams as a kid and are just deadbeats (which is a terrible plot point in order to showcase Jean having an exciting life), or b) Jean seemingly made everyone in the area give up on life when she activated her powers when Annie was hit by a car near the mall.
It's a story that is supposed to be about letting go and moving on, but it doesn't really hit those notes and makes it look like Jean is whiny, selfish, and knowingly or unknowingly ruined the lives of hundreds of people.
A real shame, I was actually looking forward to it after reading the preview.
So, here's something bothering me: The return of the letters column in DC sucks. I wasn't reading individual issues back when they were still commonplace, but they have some absolutely uninteresting softballs. They're not even worth skimming. I thought we would get something with actual content, like The Walking Dead letters page, but these are all just pure vanilla questions.
All the venom awesomeness aside in ASM 654.1 . . .
Apperently Peter is sulking over Mrs. Jameson's death and is sneaking around with Mary-Jane to whine to. BIG TIME has been really cool thus far and they better not ruin it by letting Parker backslide into his naturally sulky state. On the flip side he's getting two new suits in the next four issues.

It's like a CBR questionnaire and all the letter pages are the same for the week for every book. And the font is huge and a third of the page is lost by having DC UNIVERSE so big. We know it's a DC letters page, I just read the issue.
Really, I'd much rather there be no letters pages in comics and use that for more ad revenue so they don't increase the price anymore.

Dude, it's Peter Parker. He always beats himself up for being unable to save someone. It's part of his character.
I'm not worried about the sulking lasting that long, also - VENOM was fricking awesome, cannot wait for this ongoing. My bitch is that all Batman Inc and Dark Knight still not out...
I'm guessing that he might not realize what happened. Remender is on fire though, the guy is writing out of his mind over the last year (still bitter that not enough people bought Frankencastle, but I guess we wouldn't be getting the Venom title otherwise).
Nah, he definitely knows what happened from how he reacted to the hostage. He likely just wants to pretend it doesn't happen because it means he'd be taken out of the program.
Actually, Haunt is a top-secret government agent type, that gets dropped into areas to confront supernatural/superscience threats.
My point is that Haunt is basically Todd McFarlane slapping together Spider-Man and Spawn, the two things he's most notable for, and Larsen should really examine what he's saying. It'd be like accusing DC of ripping off Invincible, if Superman started working with the government.
I actually like Haunt a quite a bit, but it's really kind of beautiful in how shamelessly it steals from everything Kirkman and McFarlane have done up to this point.
I like Erik Larsens work - I may be the only person still reading Savage Dragon from all the buzz it gets - but nobody should ever take the bizarre things he says seriously.

Hensler you weren't here when it happened but how do you feel about Wildstorm going away?
Most of the time I can separate the creator from the work but good god he just never stops saying stupid stuff. I mean last week Image had its booth pushed back at Wondercon to make room for Marvels return. While this is a shitty thing to do, instead of talking to the company and complaining in a professional manner he whined on Twitter about how Image is being "fucked over by Marvel and Wondercon."
Hensler you weren't here when it happened but how do you feel about Wildstorm going away?
I was royally pissed when I first got the news, from a collector's standpoint - I've got every piece of Wildstorm merchandise, trade, and floppy from the beginning and absolutely loved certain eras of it. But after I thought about it some more, I realized that a hiatus was what the line needed. They had some great creative teams with the most recent relaunch (World's End), but sales actually went down. DC has tried to prop up the Wildstorm books in pretty much every way possible, and it just wasn't working. A big part of the 90's fanbase that bought the imprint have left comics now, and newer readers weren't interested in picking it up.
They were down to two regular series and a limited by the end, and I'd like to see those stories wrapped up better, but I think taking a few years off, and then giving us a Wildstorm Crisis where everything gets rebooted (again) will be good for the IP's in the long run.
At the end of Siege Constrictor and Diamondback split up and havn't been seen since, which made me sad because they had a fun little relationship that I liked.
I thought it was a damn shame because Constrictor is good T-Bolts material, and he should have been put in there, plus Diamondback could have gone in as well (she's just as much of a villain as Songbird is these days, and she'd want to help Frank out).
Also Taskmaster and Ares should have been on the T-Bolts too.
I guess what I am saying is that good as the current T-Bolts team (and book!) is there was a whole bunch of characters that would have made more sense that putting Moonstone on the team again (seriously she is a villain, end of story).
Though really I would have loved to see anything at all done with Constrictor and Diamondback, even if it was just a little line telling us that they are being superheroes somewhere while living in sin together and are perfectly happy thank you very much.

Constrictor could wind up on Walker's team, he could be the reformed villain co-leader like Mach V.
And chances are those characters will be in limbo forever
and it would have been nice if they stick together
I'm a sucker for a beautiful romance, all right? I just want them to be happy!

You say you like romance in comics and then spit, spit on Karla, the love of Clint's life. How dare you sir!
I do miss Lois and Clark being a married couple, haven't really seen that in about 2 years. Since then it's been Superman and Lois, or Superman being a dick to Lois. And even Scott & Emma aren't really doing anything anymore. But who needs relationships when the next big event destroys a city!
The one place that has been kind of nice to see romance flourish is the Fables universe. Beauty & the Beast, Snow White & Bigby, even Frau Tottenkinder finds happiness.
I think he does work in in team roles, he was great in the Initiative, though you are right he is to canny to get caught and be put on the front line. I'd have him there as a trainer and organiser, using his unique skills to grab a pardon and a job with a nice government paycheck plus expenses.
I think that would suit Tasky down to the ground. He's not in it for the big money, but goes for the regular payments with no risk.

so, I read The Real Clone Saga trade
other than the loss of my favorite ridiculous developments, I loved it, and I'm irritated Marvel couldn't have retconned it in with OMDs aftermath

Hard to get more terrible as well.
It's pretty horrifying to think that when people think of Britain they think of Doctor Who.
It's just something you have to learn to live with.
Solar you read comic books
people in glass houses, throw stones, etc
I dislike it because I think it is shit.
which, hey, describes a good deal of comic books too!
As I said Dr Who being a silly sci fi show doesn't bother me at all
I just don't like it, is all
Which is fine but not something I enjoy
Original Theme
Because Dr.Who used to be on before Count Duckula, so I'd always catch the theme when it replayed on the end credits.

Whereas the new Venom looks great and markedly different from the old design, with the military angle that Haunt does not have whatsosever.
Essentially Erik Larson is spouting total bullshit.
