Clear Out Your Backlog

Instead of having a backlog club in the sense of a book club where we all play the same game, how about we have it as a "club" more in the sense of an organization - a thread for people who are playing various old games, and may want to talk about it, but since they're old games and a single person may be the only person playing that specific game at the time, they don't feel comfortable making their own thread about it - essentially, we're all playing old games, but not the same ones, but people who have already beaten the game you have can toss in suggestions/comments.

Or is that too close to the chat thread to be allowed?

Mods, if this is too close to a chat thread, I apologize and won't bitch about a lock.

Many of us decided, in the New Year's Resolution thread, to clear out our backlogs. Apotheos just started a thread about clearing out his RPG backlog (a daunting task if there ever was one), and many of us are playing older games but don't think enough people are playing the same game to start a thread.

So, if you're clearing out a backlog and want to talk about it, this is the place. This is what I'm using to manage my backlog (thanks to drummond for the inspiration). My "Now Playing" list is a little long, but the 2 I'm really working on right now are Link to the Past and Final Fantasy XII.

I still think Turtle Rock can go fuck itself, but Ganon's Tower is proving easier, as I've already got the big chest open and haven't really found any problems with it yet.

For FFXII, I just need to actually find some gaming time that doesn't take place on the bus back and forth to work.

So, what are you all playing? Where are you stuck? What are you finding out? Is it great and we should all go back and play it, too?

I started F.E.A.R. yesterday and plan to finish it this weekend (since its so short). Then, its onward to Metroid Prime. My backlog is embarassingly large (and contains many 'big name' games) thanks to FFXI and WoW.

Man, that's exactly why I decided to trade off FF12.

Anyway, I still have an absurd amount of time to put into Twilight Princess, and I can never talk about it here because everyone's already "LOL OLD" to the situation. I'm only about 12 hours in, and I put in maybe two hours every week or so. That and pretty much all of my seven Wii games. :P

I'm sure it's possible with any number of languages, and it looks like drummond has moved to php. I'm still using plain HTML as the web hosting isn't mine and I don't know what's supported.

If somebody has access to a Windows server capable of running C# powered aspx, I could write something though.

If I throw in everything up to Baldur's Gate 2 and Planescape: Torment, this list would just be huge. So...

Just from the past 6 months:

    Haven't finished:
    -DS
    Contact
    Age of Empires
    -PC
    Neverwinter Nights 2
FEAR (I've done tons of multiplayer, though)

    Haven't started:
    -DS
    Castlevania: Portal of Ruin
Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 (I let my sister borrow it...)
    Star Fox Command (See FEAR)
    -PC
    Rainbow Six: Vegas
Falcon 4.0: Allied Force (I need a joystick)

EDIT: Also, this summer I started playing the portable Final Fantasies. I've got 1 and 2 done, haven't started 4, haven't even picked up 3 or 5.

My story is kind of odd considering I have ~ 200 SNES, Genesis, N64, PS1 games I haven't beat.

And then I have the 75 or so PC games I haven't beat.

I should probably just rent games, in stead of my Buy-Collect-Neverplay habits.

I think a majority of us have those habits.

It doesn't get any more sensible, but I did begin to like it by that time. Understand that the game wants to be trippy, and will do its best to keep itself that way. But if you can latch onto the style, and get into a groove (really, the gameplay mechanics are the best when they become rote), you might just love it. And you might even begin to make sense of it.

I think I might use my Shackspace to put up a backlog. I suggest people do the same.

I have a vow: Backlog before nextgen...The PS3 is my main motivation for finishing my backlog:

    -Okami
    -Rule of Rose
    -Katamary Damacy
-Ico (I'm sorry, I'm close to finishing though)
    -Prince of Persia: WW
    -Prince of Persia: TT
    -Splinter Cell: CT
    -Splinter Cell: DA
    -Gun
    -Tomb Raider: Legend
    -Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
    -Black
    -Bloodrayne
    -Bloodrayne 2
-Jade Empire (changed my mind, couldn't stand the lame cutscenes)

Not too proud of owning a lot of those games but...a backlog is a backlog...

I've been on a big Castlevania kick lately. Therefore, most of my relevant backlog involves those games. Specifically:

    - Attempting to beat Castlevania 1.

    - Several aspects of Symphony of the Night...
    - Finishing my luck code run (got stuck early on) on my PSX copy.
    - Achievements whenever the 360 version comes out (doing a Richter run should be amusing).

I'm also (slowly) working through Ocarina of Time, and I have Majora's Mask to go through after that.

Finally, for portable fare, I am working on getting all of the original Wario Ware finished (all minigames unlocked and flowered).

And I would disagree. It's easily the worst of the three, but there are some good boss fights, the combat is better than SoT, and the Dahaka is brilliant. There's still great platforming (which is why you're here), and the story, although not great, leads into tTT well if you get the good ending.

I have a backlog of immense proportions, I really have a bad habit of not finishing games, even though I'd really like to. I buy too many games and get easily distracted and don't have enough time for 'em anyways. Right now I'm being distracted by the WoW expansion and my brand new Wii. But imma get back to these PS2 and GCN games someday soon:

Okami, FF12, Disgaea, Disgaea 2, Dragon Quest 8, SMT: Devil Summoner, Phantom Brave, Shadow Hearts 2, Shadow Hearts 3, Shadow of the Collosus, God of War, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime, Pikmin, Beyond Good & Evil, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Fire Emblem, Killer 7, Viewtiful Joe, and Chibi Robo.

I am so horrible. D; I want to play Metroid Prime 2 and Pikmin 2 also, but I'm making myself wait to buy them until I've beaten the first ones. I haven't even touched some of those. So many games, so little time. But I'll beat em someday!

I should be pretty close to the end though. I loved the original, but after hearing all about "generic rage smoldering" I decided to pass (besides gameplay, the original game had great character development, which is very rare in a game nowadays). Anyway, the gameplay in this one is kinda fun, but I'm basically playing it to get to the third one.

    Okay some questions...

    * Who would host it? I don't have any place where I could host my programs.
    * Should I make it centralized? Each user would have account that he could personalize for his own needs. This would also give possibility of comparing statistic between different users.

My complete list. There's some stuff left off that I've basically decided I'll never finish, and a couple things on here are questionable as well.

    PC:
Oblivion - I'm near the end but my thief is raped by everything I fight.
Dungeon Siege 2 - My save got erased in Act II so I'll have to start over.
Arcanum - I can't even figure out how to make a character that doesn't suck.
Baldur's Gate 2 - Keeps crashing in the first dungeon.
Temple of Elemental Evil - Can't make a party I'm satisfied with.
Neverwinter Nights 2 - I got pissed off after [spoiler:c480b44460]Khelgar passed his monk trials, but I said one wrong thing and now his influence is too low to actually make the class change.[/spoiler:c480b44460]

    GBA:
Shining Force - I got stuck on a battle in chapter 4. It's been a long time, so I don't actually remember much more than that.
Tales of Phantasia - One of my favorite games ever, I was so excited it was finally being released in English, but it got pushed aside when other games came out.
Gunstar Super Heroes - Yeah, it's short, but its also really hard.
A Link to the Past - I lost my copy, so either I'll start over on my brother's, or buy in on VC to play the original for the first time.
Pokemon Emerald - I think I've got about six badges, so it shouldn't take too long.
Klonoa 2 - I got it for Christmas and haven't put much time into it. Really fun though.
Drill Dozer - Picked it up for $10 at Best Buy a while back. It's really awesome, and the bosses are great. I need to play more when I can.

    DS:
    Hotel Dusk - Playing now.
Kirby Canvas Curse - First game I bought for my DS. I keep trying to finish, but it's incredibly hard.
Contact - I'm at the Military base and get destroyed in every fight.
Starfox Command - I got the first ending, I'd like to see the rest.
Final Fantasy II - I'm having trouble getting into the leveling system.

    GCN:
Tales of Symphonia - I keep going back to this. I bought it at launch and go through periods of not playing it for months and months, then putting a bunch of hours into it.
Gladius - Been working on this one for a while too. I think I'm only at the second country.
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within - Is this even worth the time to finish?
Baten Kaitos - My brother loved it and wants me to beat it, but I've had the plot twist spoiled for me, and I just don't "get it."
Lost Kingdoms 2 - I bought it a few weeks before the Wii launch, and then right before the launch, when I should have been marathoning it, I took an airsoft pellet to the eye and was half-blind for a while.

    Wii:
Twilight Princess - Due to the aforementioned blindness, I missed playing this while everyone else was, now it's hard to find the time.
Red Steel - I remain the only person on earth to like this game, and I think I'm about halfway through.

Wow, I wrote all that only to have it look like ass in the preview. Maybe I'll bold the titles or something and see how that looks.
Edit: Actually, that does look a little better.
