Some dudes were harassing me for buying the pyro set.
Way I see it, it's $20 bucks given to Valve in gratitude for all their awesome. Not just for the free TF2 updates, but just for being a great company in general. I couldn't get anyone to see past the "lol you paid $20 for pixels".

I don't see how. 40 damage is 40 damage, doesn't matter where it comes from. If I'm weak from fighting other people and you finish me off, that's just taking an opportunity.
Running up and killing me with an axtinguisher would have been humiliating.
Supposedly Robin Walker has said that there will be blueprints forthcoming for all hats that are part of a set.
But this is from the steam forums, so eh.
If true this would solve my one issue with the update.
Overall I think Valve has handled things pretty well. All the gameplay-effecting items are quite reasonable to get. You can't buy an advantage over anyone else.

The crate thing is a real dick move in my opinion. I wasn't going to spend a dime at the store because I know I'll have all the weapons eventually and I already have pretty much all my favorite hats. Then I get a crate. So you either buy a key or let it sit there. I suppose you could trade it to someone, but the curiosity of what is in it gets to you. So you buy a key, but it's 2.49 and you can only buy Steam dollars in increments of 5. So I spend 5 dollars, buy a key, open the box.
It's a name tag.
Hooray.
Now I need to think of a hilarious name for one of my items.

Because I have a need to be super correct: It's not in increments of 5, it's minimum 5. It'll allow you to add the exact value of what you're buying.
the soldier armor banner is so amazing with the new rocket launcher that I tanked a kritz'd heavy and killed him and came out with more health than I started without being healed.
