Yeah swiftkey is nice and my choice of keyboard if not using swype. Swype is just flashy and cool and I can fast drunk type with one hand, where even swiftkey's prediction fails.
Can anyone tell me, for those using/trying the launcher pro + winmo7 theme, what workable widget I need to get to have working notifications for my phone/sms tile?
Looks like SwiftKey does not have Japanese, unless I'm blind. Or dumb. But it's easy enough for me to just switch the input method on the rare occasion I might have something to write in Japanese.
Yeah, it's simple to swap IMEs back into Japanese, but it's really annoying to do it so much. I'd like a solid keyboard with support for both, and I haven't seen one.
Galaxy S with Gingerbread. Straight Gingerbread. No TouchWiz.
It's still Samsung, though. Their hardware always feels really cheap to me.
Really?
I mean, they've had their screw-ups, but on the whole I've always thought that Samsung had really nice hardware with just no software support whatsoever. Samsung hardware with updates handled by google would be a dream.
After my experiences with the Nexus One, though, I wouldn't trust another device not sold in a storefront. I DID eventually receive my refund through HTC, but it took far too long and too much effort.
So, anyone in here really good at tasker? I've got no clue what the fuck I'm doing with it, but there's a couple fo things I'd love to program in on my mt4g if possible (have it toggle on genius hands free mode on bluetooth connection, and toggle it off on disconnect. have it launch a contextual search function from either a long or short press of the genius button, since the genius app currently launches from either type fo press)
I just tried it and whilst it is pretty snazzy, I'm looking for something that will lock an entire screen. I remember reading something about tasker allowing this but I can't find the article now nor can I work it out by guessing.

And when I say convinced, I mean the last week or so he kept wanting to look at my phone and that mostly made his mind up for him.
I did tell him about the MT4G, but I haven't touched (heh) that phone so I don't know anything about it other than it's newer.
End on

Hah nice
I went with the MT4G over the G2 because no moving parts, slightly better processor and I like the feel of it
Now that the ROM's been cracked, I can at least go in and freeze all the bloatware and stupid shit and have my "vanilla-esque" 2.2 sans hardware keyboard

Anyone had some luck with getting screenshots from an unrooted phone? I'm trying to follow these instructions Screenshot It has you install the Android SDK for Windows and run the ddms tool, but I can't seem to get my phone to show up in the tool. Under "Other Devices" in device manager, there is an "ADB" with an unknown tag (I have a Droid Incredible), but when I try and install the bundled usb drivers, I get a "Windows was unable to install your ADB. Windows could not find driver software for your device."
It can be a bit of a pain getting the drivers working. Frankly, I think usb drivers in windows are just usually a pain when they're not regular old devices.
I didn't watch the video, but you may want to try this page on for size. If that fails, you may need to figure out how to uninstall them so you can reinstall them from scratch.

rndmhero, I used this guide and managed to get it to work.
I had the same problem you had, and I fixed it by installing the x64 drivers that came on my phone's SD card. You might have to hunt around a bit for Android x64 drivers for your phone if they didn't come with it.
In Device Manager, there should be an entry for your phone (assuming it's plugged in) with a yellow exclamation mark. Right click->update drivers->select the location of the files from the phone or internet, and install. Should work.
On another note, I'm really starting to get aggravated by apps not appearing on the market because my phone's resolution is too small. The case that brings this up is this. A 2x2 clock widget. Turns out I can just copy the .apk from a friend's phone, at least.
Forgive my ignorance, but I have a question for this thread.
I have a T- Mobile Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S), completely stock hardware and software, haven't done anything to it. So far I haven't really figured out how to put files from my laptop onto the phone, like pictures or video or music. Simply connecting the two via USB doesn't seem to work. Is there a specific program I need? I'm in the US, and the Samsung Kies program doesn't play nicely with my phone.
It should do a notification on your phone when you plug it in via usb. Hitting that notification should give you the option to let your computer access your sdcard.
The reason for this is that it isn't able to give your computer and the phone access to the sdcard at the same time.

For me, as soon as I'd installed Keis, windows properly dedected my Galaxy S and allowed me to just use plain old windows explorer to view and move around files. But my phone also only has built in memory rather than using an SD card, and I understand Bell Canada's Galaxy S could be quite different from what's available south of the border.

Has anyone else had an issue with AppBrain trying to update stock apps that are already up to date? It keeps telling me to update maps, street view, and about six other apps that came preinstalled on the phone. When I tell it to install pending changes, it takes me to the market page for each, individually, where I'm prompted to install them. They're already installed! I'm not sure what to make of it. I assume that AppBrain is having a hard time with the preinstalled versions of these apps on my Droid X, since they don't match the ones in the market, but I'm not sure how to deal with it short of installing two copies of everything.
Well, color me unimpressed with appbrain. After having it crash several times trying to sync with their servers and spending an hour or so fruitlessly trying to get fast web install working, I decided to just stick to scanning QR codes.

go into USB settings and turn on debugging, it should cause the phone to be recognized.
Can anyone recommend a cardio or workout app that will let you set your own running route? I like cardiotrainer but the GPS was wonky and shorter me a mile or so.
I'm trying to use it now. I think it is really cool. But there is quite a learning curve.
Yes. I also think it's cool but it's taking awhile to learn where all the letters are so I'm still typing slowly. I don't know that it will ever be faster than Swype though, since with Swype I'm typing entire words instead of just one letter at a time. I'd have to be really fast with 8pen to be anywhere near that speed I think.

Incredible update hit my phone today... though I still haven't updated. I really don't care about Vcast that much, and I don't know that anything else important was actually added.
Been messing around with SwiftKey, and I have to say that I really like it. The text prediction is pretty impressive; there are a lot of times I let it talk to itself just to see what it comes up with.

don't forget the higher ammount of RAM
Anyone else had one lately?
That got pushed out to all the Incredibles to do a couple bug fixes/improvements and load more Verizon Crapware on your phone (VCast apps).
If you're rooted, there's a file you can edit to skip the update entirely. Otherwise I think you're stuck with it.
Haven't updated, and I did root it, but I didn't install any custom ROMs or anything yet.
I presume there'll be a ROM available with the updates but not the bloat?

However I did find a paid app that plays the 'train is leaving' jingles of some tokyo train stations! works offline too!
Please post a link to this!
I have one of these things

Is it all the various lines or just the JR?

the free version doesn't include tokyo station! Only shinagawa to shinjuku
of the free ones shinjuku is my favorite I think
