Because you need a job.

Because you hate your job.

Because you're that jerk that has a great, well-paying job you love.

Because Mully needs a place to post about her wacky coworkers.

Because JoeUser and Nogs are the divine job finders.

This is the job thread.

Bitch about work, rave about work, post your resume, ask for help, etc.

A couple of my co-workers, who are servers, have been pitying me to my face about what I make. I told them what I make a year, not by the hour, but still they seemed horrified and really felt bad for me.

It makes me want to lay in bed forever.

Would you want to be a server? You'd make more money but would it be more crap to deal with?

So this girl I work with and I used to swap each week with one week I'd have Monday off, and she'd have Tuesday off. Then I'd have Tuesday off next week, and she'd have Monday off. That way we'd both get a weekend every other week. Its been like that for over a year. Now that our manager has left, the boss has decided its too much of a hassle to work out, even though we earn the same amount.

So I got the short straw and I won't have two days off in a row again. (Apart from exceptions like today). I argued with him but I don't want to push it too far.

And the other girl is having an interview for a non-floristry job because she dislikes it so much here. I'm sticking because I need to be at a florists until I qualify to be a Senior Florist. I'm looking for other places but there aren't any yet.

Summed up, my boss is a generally mean guy. But my wages go up in October. So ha.

A lot of places do not want to train you, and serving in a street restaurant vs. an airport restaurant is very different. Wha my co-workers make is a lot more than the average street server. My job would never let me leave my post as a barista, so I can't have any hopes of making their money.

I am kind of scared for my shitty job

Yes I work at the Hell known to men as Walmart. I have no idea what is going on next week at work I usually work 40 hours but next week I work 31?
I am not the only one everyone at work is curious to angry or somewhere between about this. It does not help the people who are kiss asses still keep thier normal times.

I am scared because of the rumour of they are going to force everyone to be part time which I cannot afford with the up comming taxes and other things I have to pay for in October

My best friend used to wait tables at a Legal Seafoods in the airport. She was rolling in cash but she also slowly lost her mind until she quit. A few places I've worked were willing to give you a go as a server if you worked as a barista at a really busy place, they figured the skills would translate well. Depending on what you make as a barista it may be worth leaving to wait tables outside of the airport.

Yeah, yay to flowers, we've had some really lovely things in from Holland like purple hydrangeas. But he's such a pain it really is tricky to put up with at times.

Here is a picture from the charity ball we did, 65 tables!

That's great Lost, I really hope you get that bonus if you've been working really hard :)

Oooh is it like a large art portfolio type deal with fancy pictures? You should make it a popup book where when you open a page, flowers pop up in the reader's face! But that "make something right now" part of interviews sounds scary

Luckily I live at home still and pay a reduced rent. When I qualify I can move anywhere in the country, so I can pick somewhere with better pay.

    Yeah, you tell 'em, Liiya.

That's not too bad actually. You can go as high as £35 for a lesson with some people, which is ridiculous.

Just wait until you pass and you get stuck with petrol prices, road tax, MOTs, insurance and the rest of it.

Driving is awesome though, just expensive.

I drove a manual transmission for years. The only reason I didn't buy another is because having to train my wife to not destroy a transmission would have killed me.

Also those are tiny little European cars. I drove one of these.

Girlfriend waiting for a call back on a job she interviewed for last week. They told her that they'd call everyone because only a couple of people interviewed, but still. Would like for her to hear one way or another!

I hope she gets it. Selfishly, because my god I am so tired of searching for jobs online. Less selfishly because this whole process hasn't been very good for her emotionally, as she went back for a diploma on top of her degree because she wanted to make herself more employable and it hasn't worked thus far.

Still. She's only been looking for a total of three months, so I keep telling her that it's by no means uncommon to be still looking. Especially for PR/Communications jobs, which is the field she's most interested in.

I do feel guilty about going into work every day and enjoying the heck out of my job, though.

    Maybe a renault clio

I really need to go get my license.

I drive like, all the time. Why I don't have a license can be ascribed to one thing - laziness.

I should mention that I have a learner's and always drive when my girlfriend's in the car. Which, since we're always together, isn't really an issue.

I want to see you drive in the mountains in a foot of snow in a mini cooper. Also, it was cool looking, I could move my own stuff without borrowing or renting a truck, and it made nice for hunting trips where I could set up a tent in the bed and sleep off the ground where it was snowy or wet.

I learned on a manual too!
    Drove one for yeeeaaaars
Wasn't able to find a used car that didn't have a bazillion miles on it that was manual though, so now I'm driving an automatic.

That and then I'd have to teach my bf how to drive a manual.
    ...
I'm not a very good teacher so that would be hard.

In the future I'd like to get myself a manual (I really miss having something to do while driving!). Something along the lines of a subaru outback.
