xbox 360 slim hard drive

I looked at the port on my 360 slim, and it just looks like a regular old internal sata notebook hard drive connection.
Is there anything to stop someone from buying a notebook hard drive and formatting it in the xbox menu? Does microsoft limit the size on the internal hard drive as well? I know flash storage is limited to 16GB, but what about the internal? Has anyone tried this? I hope it's OK to ask about this.

Not worth risking getting banned from LIVE in my opinion.
I do believe it has to be the same size as a current official harddrive. So like 20, 60, 120. There's also something about having to put a signature file on it so that the xbox thinks it's an official drive, but more or less it'll format it up correctly.
As far as i know in the googling I did on the subject a month or two ago, no one has been banned for doing this. Even if microsoft could tell, they probably wouldn't ban you, because...why? There's no piracy involved here or anything. You can google around pretty easy for a more definitive answer.

360 hard drives each contain specific, unique info (including, but not limited to HDD Model number, serial number, drive size, and checksums to make sure you didn't modify any bit of that) that the 360 uses to identify a genuine drive from Microsoft, and someone using a regular laptop drive.
There is a program to duplicate said info from official HDDs to certain Western Digital HDDs, but some code is copyrighted.
