Australia is my favorite song off the new CD, and I'm just going to echo everyone else and say that the album as a whole hasn't really grabbed me yet. Let's just jope they don't wait four years between albums again.

And how do you pronounce Menomena, my roommate says may-no-may-na, and I'd like him to be wrong.

I'd say Australia, Turn on Me and Phantom Limb are good enough to justify getting the new Shins CD. Other songs are alright, except Pam Berry. Fuck filler tracks.

Modest Mouse's "Dashboard" is getting infectious, especially now that I've gotten a clean file of it. That crappy radio version made it sound like Brock was talking through a mouthful of pudding.

Also, my first favorite song of the year is "Mama, Won't You Keep Those Castles In the Air & Burning?". Some Loud Thunder's version of "Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth," I guess. More than makes up for that abomination of a title track.

I am seeing the Shins on February 10th, and Of Montreal on March 15th. Cannot wait, Of Montreal is by far my favorite band, and the Shins are up there also.

The Shins' new album took some time for me to like it overall, although I still miss the jangly pop style of Oh, Inverted World.

    The Blow (Feb 9)

    Tokyo Police Club (March 12)
    Rock Plaza Central (Feb 17)
    Malajube (Feb 18th)
    Matt & Kim (March 10)
    Menomena (March 28 )

The Blow is gonna be at a coffee shop ten feet away from my dorm. It's free and I'm hanging out with her afterwards. I think I'm partying with Matt & Kim afterwards too.

I had to review The Shins Wincing the Night Away album for a college magazine I write for. When I first heard the whole album, I wasn't that pleased and actually disappointed. But after multiple listens, it grew on me, quite a lot and now it is actually tied with Chutes Too Narrow as my favorite Shins album.

Give it a chance. You'll love it.

I'm liking the Shins cd well enough. I love how the first track, Sleeping Lessons, builds up to the guitars, and it's hard to deny that Phantom Limb is incredibly catchy and fun.

I'm not so sure about the rest of the album, save for Red Rabbits which I really like the melody of. I'm going to have to break the silly little ban and say that I have to listen to it a little more.

I'm still listening to The Crane Wife. All the songs aren't as recognizable to me, and I don't feel really familiar with them like I do when listening through Picaresque, but the standouts really standout, and make it my favorite Decemberists cd.

That Coachella festival someone mentioned...are tickets still available to that? That Saturday lineup looks pretty fantastic; I recently got into Regina Spektor and she just kind of seals the deal of the New Pornographers, Arcade Fire, and Decemberists all on the same day.

Is this your first time seeing The Blow? They're AMAZING. When I saw them it was only Khaelie on stage (I don't know if they usually do that) but she was great. And possibly on drugs. But somehow between her singing and dancing and random little stories she kept the audience enthralled all by herself. I would have loved to hang out with her, you're lucky.

Fie on that. Some Loud Thunder's got great moments, but none of them stand up to the one-two of Sunshine and Clouds (And Everything Proud) and Details of the War.

What you said about the title track and what Pitchfork said about the album sorta line up - Some Loud Thunder might have been an intentional distancing from all that overcharged online hype. It's an understandable decision, and it worked, because SLT IS less accessible. And while there might be an excuse for the title song, there's none for Arm & Hammer.

I'm really hoping the new Islands has more violin. When I saw them in concert last the brothers were what the show was all about, and it was x100 better than the album.

Can't wait for CYHSY!, Tokyo Police Club, Arcade Fire, AIH and Rilo Killey. Has anyone heard any news on Stars? I heard about a remix album a while back that never surfaced, so that'd be cool. Hopefully some new Most Serene Republic, too.

If we're counting Ska/Punk, Streetlight Manifesto is finally releasing their sophmore record this year (unless they get robbed again and delay it for another few years). There is also suppossed to be a new Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution album out around the same time.

Also, The Weakerthans ought to have a new album coming out this year. They played about 4 new songs in Philly last summer, so I imagine by now they've got about an album of new material.

I may check out Tokyo Police Club's new album. Heard them on CBC Radio 3's podcast and they sounded pretty good.

And I guess Bad Religion is technically on an independent label, and their new album is coming out in May or June.
