Its been asked many times and been shot down by PA.
Reasoning:
The space to play pingpong is large and is better served with gaming stuff
Dont need sweaty gamers
good points.
although maybe a pre-pax game should be set up somewhere at some point.
I like this idea, but have no clue how one would set that up.
there's a place in boston called jillian's. i haven't been there myself, and i've heard very mixed reviews, but if someone wanted to organize a thing, they have ping pong tables, as well as pool, bowling, darts, drinking, etc. http://www.jilliansboston.com

Just make sure that if you go there you have a passport if you're from out of the country, and make sure you're wearing "proper footwear." I had a friend turned away because he had his canadian driver's license, and another because he was wearing workboots. The bouncers there can be gooses.
Hiya, I've been working in games journalism for a little while now, and this is going to be my first big convention. I'd love it if any of you experienced press folks could give me some tips. General tips for Getting Shit Done at PAX are welcome, but I have a few specific questions.
1. Is there usually a press room at the show that we can use for outlets/quiet wifi access/etc.?
2. I'll definitely be pre-arranging any special interviews I conduct, but what's the best way to get demo time? Do people usually pre-arrange a time, wait in line with everyone else, or head right up to the place and flash the press badge?
3. I'll be dragging my poor, long-suffering husband along. He'll probably be operating my video camera. Will it be a problem that he doesn't have a press pass himself, or are people pretty understanding of the fact that us smaller sites can't really send a working journalist AND camera person?
Generally, information about logistics and press etiquette would be much appreciated!

1. There is a press room, the information should be with the all of the PAX media info.
2. Pre-arranged times seem to be the norm for that.
My experience is from CES and a little bit of E3, so the things I've outlined here apply more to a trade show then a fan convention.
1. Can't speak to this as I've never been press at PAX. PAX isn't a trade show like CES or E3, so I don't imagine there would be.
2. When you speak to PR make sure they know you want to do a demo if they have something to demo. Most interviews with PR folks tend to include such things though. When I interviewed Valve about L4D2, the interview was immediately followed by a demo. If push comes to shove, the press badge can at least get you talking with the PR folks running the booth at the event, if not a drop by demo. You shouldn't have to wait in line.
3. That will be up to both the media team at PAX and the PR folks running the booth. In my experience with trade shows, the press passes don't cost anything, so getting an additional pass shouldn't be a bother. Don't know if it's the same for a convention like PAX.
Hope that helps.

Not so sure about this one. If you have pre-arranged an interview sure, but PAX is not like E3, its for the attendees not the press. While I can't confirm one way or another, I'm pretty sure if you see a line expect to wait in it. The media pass does not grant you line jumping abilities. From what I've read, this goes for panels as well, if you don't line up with everyone else to get in before it fills up, you will miss the panel.
Wadu is correct, The press badge acts just like an attendee badge except for 2 (Possibly 3) things.
1) Access to the press room
2) You get into expo an hour early on saturday
3) There might be a press only Q&A with PA, dont know if thats happening or not this year. I remember it last East.
It does NOT grant you cut in line privileges to anything. You get to wait like everyone else
Like I said, experience is in Trade Shows not Conventions. Figured some advice might not apply. I guess none of it does.
I also witnessed Press jumping the line at Prime for Old Republic and Duke Forever. Maybe they had pre-booked appointments. I don't know. I would assume so, but it's up to the dudes running the booth. Take that as you will, and carry on.
Hi I am trying to get set up to Demo Dystopian Wars on Friday in the open game area, and I have a two part question. \
1. Is there any one to contact still to see if a couple tables can be reserved still? If not thats ok I will live and deal with it i know they have area set up for come and play freely stuff or some one could clear this up if I've gotten it wrong.
2. I'm prob going to have a couple new extra items from my purchases to get ready am I allowed to do a Raffle where some one spends $2 on a ticket and I raffle them at the end of the day. I know some Cons have clauses/restrictions on these types of things to not hurt vendors so I was curious. Is there some one I need to contact to get this approved if there is restriction/application system.
Thanks for helping or correcting my info I just want to do this the right way to not get myself or a visitor in trouble .
I'm re quoting this because it was moved and I fear it may be missed in the disccusion any help is appreciated.

Simply start booking your appointments now with PR representatives at the companies you'd like to see. You'll automatically receive news blasts from those accepting bookings.
Your badge will be at Will-Call, in the Media line. Traditionally, Media gets in to the exhibition hall day one about an hour before attendees (at least that's how it was at PAX Prime).
You don't get too many perks with a Media Badge though -- the occasional "Media" line and some line-jumping when you've scheduled with the company. Hope this helped.

As stated above you'll get E-Mails from companies letting you know about reservations to play their games as it makes your planning alot easier for everything else. You should jump on that just in case. At PAX East last year you were able to get into the expo hall an hour before regular attendees also. I suggest getting to the will call line early in the morning on Friday.
I bought a ticket for Saturday but I am unable to attend on Saturday, is there any way to switch my ticket over to a Friday pass? Thanks!
You are probably better off purchasing a Friday pass and attempting to sell your Saturday pass in the HAVE/NEED extra tickets thread. Just to make sure you actually get your Friday pass since they aren't yet sold out.

Is there any sort of exhibitor list available yet? All I've been able to find anywhere is that there was a mysterious "preliminary" exhibitor list released, but I can't actually that list.

Not official by any means, but you can check out the sponsor links on the side bar of the main pax site. Chances are if they are a sponsor they will also have a booth.
Has anyone else had a serious delay in getting their tickets? I ordered mine on the 24th of January, and have still not rec'd them. Should I start to panic? Or is this normal? The confirmation email had no shipping delays that I saw. QQ

the first round of tickets just got sent to the shipper this week. They typically don't ship out until about a month before pax, so this is normal.

Badges don't have any personal info on them. That information is needed if you go to will call, and the OP should have details on how to transfer Will Call'd badges.
Hi everyone. I am really excited for PAX East this year, mostly because this will be my first time attending the convention. I have run into a bit of a snag though; my friend dropped out and I now have to pay for everything myself. I have calculated how much money I have and how much money I will get from work and it will be just enough to pay for me getting there and back(since I already bought my ticket, making sure I had to go no matter what). I would not be able to afford any food or swag. I was with my friends racking their brains on what I could do to get money, and while we were doing this, I was giving all my friends messages. They all came to the surprisingly serious conclusion that I should sell messages at PAX East. I thought it was a good idea since I had always enjoyed giving messages and have always been pretty good at it.
Now that I got the back story out of the way, I wanted to know if it would be allowed to do it and if anyone in the forums would actually pay, say, 2 dollars a minute after the first minute, if I were to give out messages. Thanks guys for your input and for making through this whole post.:)
