It might look good, but let me suggest that you DO NOT BURN YOUR BEARD unless you want some permanent missing patches. As for removing spots, I think I'd suggest a knife or a straight razor. Just use it on the smallest area possible. Then again, I've never tried something like this, so I may be wrong.

under no circumstance would I advice burning your beard. Even without the danger, the smell of burnt hair alone should be enough to disuade you.

You know, I was thinking about this earlier. I'm curious what you were thinking of going as? I like my Brink character and I'd cosplay as him except he doesn't wear a shirt and I'm not shredded muscle like him yet lol.

So finished my Doctor Who Tardis Costume (http://s774.photobucket.com/albums/yy21/SchoolGirlGoodness/PAX%20Preparation%202011/). Will be going down again to see friends in August before PAX to make my silicon Metroid Suit (need to lose a little more weight before that).

Well, now my Thyroid is trying to kill me so the costume may be off this year. Hell. PAX is gonna be off this year unless I can get a stint as an Enforcer. That would be a nice way to end this horrible month..

Kilo147 is there something I could help you with for your costume. I know the pain and shortage of being sick and it effecting things. If I could help, I would love too. I'm improving sewing each project and made 4 kilts and my tardis costume from scratch. So please if I can help, ask.

It's Grave's Disease. the name sounds morbid, it's not thaaaaat bad. It does suck though. Sure it's fixed with large amounts of radiation, but it's fitting considering the costume I'm working on. I mean seriously, radiation is the cure? How Fallout is that?

This is my battle. It's been a WIP for over a year, and one way or another it will be finished. that's not the worst part, and the constant blood draws, the xrays, the weekly doctor appointments, and everything else unspeakable that is trying to tear my life apart is nothing. The most painful part of all this, this week, hell this month that has tested my very sanity, this week that has pushed me to the brink of madness, the part that keeps me checking my email ten times a day is waiting for a reply to the Enforcer application I put it. Now that's madness.

It'll get done. Hell, I figure I need at least one more trip to the ER to get the supplies to make this happen. I still need surgical tubing for the Dart Gun, and I could use some more random IV parts. Still looking for an old paint sprayer too. Somewhere I have a picture of all the junk that's going into this, and the random things that are making it so perfectly crappy. Hell, even random hunks of metal and license plates found on the side of the road are useful. The perk of making an authentic post-apocalyptic costume.

Plus, if they screw up super bad it'll wreck my voice for years so I would be the PERFECT ghoul.

I actually know what it is, cousin went through in couple years back. I went to my first three PAX's in extreme pain and the third was 7 days after major surgery but that did fix most problems. I will never be well but I love playing at PAX and will continue and understand the wanting to make stuff but no energy, time, or wellness to do. If you do need any help, as I said, please ask. I hope to see you this year in your cool post-apocalyptic costume.

Will do! Once my SDCC costumes are done, Merrill is my main project, so I'm 99.9% sure I'll finish it. I already have the wig and materials for her "chain mail". Excited to see all of those costumes. :o

We'll have to get together for a group photo since that'll be at least four DA2 characters and I'm sure we will probably get more as time passes. :D

What are you making the chain mail out of? After looking around for options and tricks I just gave up and ordered the supplies to make the real stuff since mine is on the outside of the outfit. I'd imagine that would be too time consuming, heavy and expensive for the amount you'll need though...

Woo! Hey guys! College is eating my soul right now so It's hard to keep active on this thread. Basically I plan on doing Chell from Portal 2 as my only outfit seeing as it will be a lot of work. Due to being in school till the tenth of June I haven't got much done.

I did wire the lights for
    POTaToS
however! the wires are still a little long and I'll probably replace the switch portion with something better looking but I haven't made the main prop yet.

I had some ideas with the boots but the site with a good base pair seems to have shoddy service so I'm a little hesitant to order from them.

    Medical updates!

I had my first bit of memory loss today. It's gonna get a lot worse, and until i get the thyroid destroyed I may have the symptoms of Alzheimers.

    New symptom. This. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitiligo

On the plus side, I have many many hypodermic needle pens coming in, with blue fluid. All I need to do is remove the pen part and put some sort of plastic needle looking thing in and BLAMMO. a poor man's MED-x.

Still waiting on the supplies to finish the damned armor. anyone have a riveter that can punch through a tire?

So as it stands right now, me and my wife will be able to go to pax prime for at least two days this year, I'm working on a new cosplay, that I can actually bring on the plane with me as a bag...bringing the cog armor or the crackdown armor is going to be tricky, I can get it done, but will be scared to death to ship it cross county... Look forward to seeing everyone and everything there, can't wait!

been coming to PAX for 4 years now, and this will be the first that I come in costume. Inspiration suddenly hit while ogling GW2 concept art, and as a homage to my favorite hometown developer, I'm putting together a norn ranger cosplay. It's quite a lot of fun putting the pieces together and watching the costume come together, not to mention how satisfying it is as I try each completed piece on.

August 26th cannot come fast enough D:

So since plans have fallen apart on multiple levels for a group costume with my boyfriend, our friend, and I. And I cannot do some plans because of money I have finally chosen and started on what costume I will do from WoW.
    Vanessa Vancleef 185104.jpg

I have the boots done, the leggings and arm parts (the red parts with straps) and am working on the tabard and the shoulders. (anyone knows what I could use as the orbs that I could actually put liquid in that would be a reasonable size and not leak?) The wig is also on order and should be waiting for me at home when I get off vacation.

I am only changing one thing about the costume. I am not showing that much thigh. I am going to have on short black leggings so that either no skin shows or just skin around me knee and only a little thigh. Can't decide what would look best yet, I will do the rest then decide.

How did you do the boots? I've been scrounging around in value villages for a pair of boots to retro-fit for my costume, but I haven't been having any luck.

I'm curious as to how others do them :X

(also, my puppy decided to make a chew toy out of my pauldron, so I get to remake that this weekend!) yayyyyyyyyyy......

Got to watch those puppies. Caught my Cocker Spaniel carrying around my Moogle headgear by the pom the other day. I was unpacking from another con and wasn't paying attention. Well we are all on track for costumes. The men are cross dressing as female companions and the women are 11th and 10th doctor, Capt Jack, and maybe the Tardis/console for Doctor Who fun on the Friday. I believe I'm making a Witcher outfit for my brother and I'm traveling down to Reno to get my Silicon Metroid Zero Suit made just before PAX. There will be a Portal Cube, Bioshock Elizabeth and some Dragon Age stuff and other goodies. All will be posted as they are being created on my photobucket account (in show spoiler link) So lots on the plate but it should be a great year and I can't wait to see everyone's costumes. Also come see us and get yummy cookies, we are collecting for Child's Play by the Cookie Brigade.

We have stores in our area that buy gently used brand names clothes from people and then they sell them back to others. Kind of like a salvation army only the clothes are bought from people and not by only donations. I found my boots there for like $20.

I then outlined them with tape and then spray painted them with the design then I did details with paint pens. They are not exact (by any means) but they are detailed enough to get that they have a design. When I get back from vacation I will post pics (sorry but that won't be for a couple more weeks). I did the gloves in about the same way but I had to sew on extensions to make them longer and folded over.

Anyone have any idea about the pauldrons? I am having some trouble finding something that I can use as the orbs that can only be described as filled with blood or fruit juice. I would love love love to have them actually filled with something but they can't leak and they should be reusable and reasonable in size and wearing them (can't be too heavy or too big), in other words practical.

I thought of those immediately! But the problem is finding them now. I have tried some places online (ebay mostly) but they want too much money for simply one of them ($15 for one!!) and normally they are from a few years ago. I'm currently getting a Riddler costume together. It's going to be something between the Arkham city concept art and the animated series. My original idea was to try and make it look like what I think the Riddler would have looked like if he were chosen as the villain for the next Chris Nolan Batman movie. Was thinking of going as far as setting up a scavenger hunt with riddles at PAX. what do you guys think good idea?

How big did you need? POM has round bottles like that (or they did recently). They are plastic it was their pomegranate juice. Here is a link to their webpage their POMX bottle on it is the round one http://www.pomwonderful.com/products/ I just noticed POMx is pills but they do (or did) also have a juice filled round bottle.

Woo I win!! Thanks to everyone who helped with the whole bottle thing =D

I was in Walmart getting some snacks for a trip to the beach and was frustrated not finding bottles that were close enough and went to check out and found the perfect ones!! They are for some seasonal kids "sports drink" they have baseball and soccer ball labels that are easily torn off. They are the perfect size and plastic and resealable. Just what I was looking for!

I bought six for the beach, we ended up drinking them and I saved the bottles to work on when I get home in little less than a week from vacation.

Now I just need to figure out how to properly get them to stay on my shoulders. I know how to do the design going around them and what angle they need to be at. Just need to figure out the best way to strap them on lol. Something to think about before I go to bed for the next few nights before I can go to the hardware store and dig around in my "craft" boxes to find ideas.

    Thanks again everyone!!

Got my tank top and sports shorts for Chell though I'm still looking for a baby blue tank top to go underneathe. Got about 1/3rds of the gun ready to go. I start working on the potato later this week. What's best is all the pieces I have with the gun I might be ready to install the blue LEDs (I have to order the orange ones online >:( ) Will probably get the fabric for the jumpsuit later next month. It should be simple to sew and put together if I get the right patterns.

Apparently my grey/blue contacts shipped so I should get those in a week or two. Never wore those before so a little nervous!

I also get the boots probably sometime this week if they're shipped on time. Can't wait to start working at those!

I wish I had a tall man to cosplay Wheatley with me <3

What sucks is that I want to tan and look nice straight away but I need to keep pale for a photoshoot in early August that I'm trying to plan. Gah I want some sun!

Anyways impressed by everyone's choices this year! I know these will blow my costume out of the water!

Anyone with experience at the last PAX Prime able to shed a little light on how hot it gets in the convention halls and on the showroom floor? I'm local to Seattle, so I know we'll have good weather in August, but with the press of humanity squeezing into the convention center I'm given to believe that it'll be a human oven inside...

I ask because I'm thinking about a Soul Evans (from Soul Eater) costume, and I'm sure I could find a two-piece pinestripe suit that would breathe a lot better than the otherwise-iconic hoodie look. Besides, he always looked better standing at the precipice of madness anyway, right?
