I have been. It has been very challenging on Hard. I've lost so many nice tools to falling off the world or being blown up. But finding the dungeons and treasure houses gives a real purpose to what you are building.

Unfortunately I got an earlier version of skylands before the crashes were fixed so I can never visit celestial wastes unless I want to restart my world. I have an extensive system of minecarts that take me between the starting point, Ascension woods treasure houses and Floaty Beach. I really don't want to lose them.

Ouch. I just decided to InvEdit all my stuff I had accumulated. Unfortunately, all the stuff I built was gone, but it wasn't too bad since there was a lot of new stuff.

Well, the crouching mechanic has saved me from falling so much. It became much, much easier.

I had a glitch where I couldn't build past some invisible wall on the way to Celestial Wastes. I had to pop into Forge (and figure out how to use it) to get past it. Now I have a looooong bridge from the start all the way to Celestial Wastes.

That's not a bad idea. Maybe I'll just ballpark how much track and carts I used and give it back to myself in InvEdit, then build it all again. I actually didn't find the dungeons very fun but I did enjoy exploring and making the track systems.

this game is seriously addicting. I can't remember losing track of time like this playing a game in years.

Anyway check this out. a friend and I are on a multi-player server and I did a quick video tour of what we've built so far ...

I totally blew my Saturday playing this. I built an imposing underground quarry, then used the stone I'd collected to build a tower to the heavens. Then I build another tower on the other side of the lake and connected them by skybridge. Not yet finished, I built a support for my skybridge, however I built it sort of off-center, so now I have to go build another one.

Mind you, all my towers are square affairs - no style to them at all. I think the next time I start building a superstructure, I'm going to play around with curves some.

I managed to make it to the Celestial Wastes last night (Desert area in pictures). It is amazing. A MASSIVE pyramid with a huge dungeon inside. I have nearly died three times in it. I got mauled by three creepers at one time, 3 zombies and a skeleton, numerous spiders and individual creepers. I also found a cluster of EVERTHING, but the creeper killed them all for me. All on Easy.

Also, the guy made a spawn location changer. You find an obelisk and remember the password, drop you stuff off in a chest, save and exit. Use the program and the password, POOF! You are now spawning from the new spawn point and can retrieve your stuff. It means I can thoroughly explore celestial wastes without the 5 minute walk back to my default spawn.

See that did a much better job of selling me on it than the website. It looked like it was mainly just sightseeing but i'm totally giving it a go now.

I have a weeeeeee bit of an issue.

So in offline single player I've got a main mine thats been excellent to me and after about a week of digging downwards I've hit a massive underground cavern with a river and its connected to another massive cavern with lava.

So the issue is that Minecraft is raping me with creeps. I can't get more then ten steps into the cavern before the framerate crashes like I was blowing up 10,000 bricks of TNT. I have to pound "F" to get the world to redraw while holding back to backpeddle out and make it to where the game isn't at a standstill.

I've made a tiny bit of progress placing twenty tourches but that took me almost a HALF HOUR TO MOVE AND PLACE THOSE due to the lag...and to top it off I get rushed by around 15 creepers at a time with more that I can make out in the background moving around.

Digging upward to create a skylight is out of the question...I'm to far down to dig that....So how the hell do I get this cavern lit and/or freed from creeper spawn spots...Killing them is out of the question with the exception of a massive TNT spam, or I could put up a wall of cactus and try to lure then to it and try to kill them off...but it lags so hard.

Any ideas? I'm guessing I'm like 100-150+ blocks underground at the minimum, it takes me a good solid four minutes to go down all the stairs to get to this cavern.

just thinking aloud but three ideas:

    - build a thick stone wall near your entrance to the cavern with a murder hole underneath. then lure the guys to you, duck into your shelter and take them out that way?

    - another option would be to create a wall like that with one of those TNT cannons i've seen on YouTube. basically wall yourself off and fire TNT over the top to take out the creepers.

    Remember: use logs, not planks.

any reason? I use planks in my fireplaces.

I use planks too, because one log becomes 4 planks; it just seems like the efficient thing to do.

Although I've had some trouble with different materials sometimes not doing the trick. I had made a brazier using cobblestone out in the open and the plank burned out; but when I made it with gravel it burned forever.

And I noticed in multiplayer that zombies don't come out at night, you can't get hurt, and you can't kill animals. Is true survival mode just not implemented yet for multiplayer? My gf and I have been really wanting to do some co-op survival.

yeah i've noticed the same thing. the admin of my server just turned off the bad guys as a result. only way to kill anything is with TNT.

do you know how hard it is to look at a delicious piggy standing there and not be able to kill him for bacon?

Actually, he removed that. That chest has 1 gold apple, a record or two, and maybe a stone pick.

It DOES start you out with some equipment, mainly because it is harder and more dangerous to find coal.

    Interesting.

To make sure we're talking about the same chest - It's across a bridge then up a ladder. It had 8 diamonds and 64 coal.

I think you are talking about a treasure chest, and ya, I am pretty sure he nerfed it.

Either way, if you are playing above Peaceful, you won't keep it for long. It will be lost when you enter a dungeon or take a wrong step.

I don't recall where I read it, but the popular story since Notch initially said (a while ago) that torches would be going temporary that when the lanterns go in all existing torches will be automatically converted into lanterns. Seems pretty straight-forward (add a new 'torch' item and swap the crafting patterns so that all existing 'torches' are now ID'd with the new latern ID and any torches created in future have the new torch ID).

Health isn't implemented in MP yet. Until it is, "Survival" Multiplayer is just fancy creative mode.
