Biography:
Skeets suggests the biography of Booster entitled: "The Man Of Gold", now available on DVD and Blu-Ray. Seriously, please buy it. He barely broke even on that little venture. Okay, so it lost money. He can handle going back to being not very rich. Okay, moderately well off at best. He can handle eating Ramen for a while. Again.
For those of you who don't know the story that you should...
The past of Booster Gold begins in the future. How many heroes can say that? Michael Jon Carter and his fraternal twin sister Michelle Carter were born in the year 2442. At a young age, their father, a compulsive gambler, abandoned the family. Their mother raised the twins as best she could in the poor slums of Gotham City. Unfortunately the delicious, nutritious and economically-sensible food products such as Booster-O's Breakfast Cereal and Instant Skeetles had ceased to be in production for over three hundred years. But seriously, just try to imagine the slums of the future Gotham City. Booster Gold, friend to all, has seen it. And his new book "10 Simple Steps To A Better Gotham City" has received critical acclaim from local politicians and law enforcement officials. Not vigilantes, but let's be reasonable here.
By the year 2462, Michael had become the star quarterback for Gotham University as just a sophomore. As it turns out, American Football happened to make a comeback in the 25th century. Who coulda thunk it? Michael's spectacular performances earned him his nickname, "Booster." Ask about Goldstar Gear in the sports section of your favorite retail outlets. The media compared Booster to the greatest quarterbacks ever to play the game (As one commentator said, "like Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw, Bret Favre and John Elway rolled into one, only extremely handsomer". Okay maybe he didn't say it, but he meant it.), and it seemed inevitable that he would make a fortune as a professional player.
However, before Michael could graduate and make aforementioned cash monies, his mother fell gravely ill and required expensive medical care. In desperation, Michael turned to a childhood friend, the bookie Snake-Eyes, for help... and the beloved Booster began throwing games. A very special episode of Booster's afterschool special series "The Golden Rule", dealt with this very subject. It was only a matter of time before the public found out, and Michael was arrested. He had unfortunately taken after his father's worst habit.
Michael made a plea bargain in the federal case against his participation in illegal gambling. While this kept him out of jail, it also guaranteed that he would never play professional football. Expelled from Gotham University, Michael relocated to Metropolis, where he found work as a night watchman at the Space Museum. Inspired by the museum's displays of past heroics, Michael enrolled at Metropolis University where he studied Earth's past, especially the legendary superheroes. Look for Superhero Lifestyle, Booster and Skeets' syndicated guest column in the Society section of Sunday's Daily Planet or your local newspaper.
Combining his desire to redeem himself to his family and the public with the profitable opportunity provided by super heroics in the twentieth century, Booster for some reason decided that the best course of action was to steal several of the museum's displays and journey to the past to start his life over.
First, however, he deactivated and kidnapped Skeets, a museum security/valet model robot containing an extensive historical database. Their early misundertandings that lead to a friendship between man and machine are featured in the Goldstar Youg Reader's book, "My Robot Friend". Stealing a power-suit, energy bands, energy rods, flight ring, force field belt, and a twentieth-century Visa credit card, Michael misused yet another piece of technology to travel to the late twentieth century.
Seeking to bring himself to instant fame, Booster made his arrival to coinincide with a presidential assassination attempt... which he foiled and rose to celebrity status almost instantly. Within two months, Booster Gold will founded the company Goldstar, Inc. in order to promote his image and business assets. Though unfortunately Booster has moved on to other opportunities to share his success, collections of his Biz Boosters motivational seminars can be found on CD and MP3. Also, Skeets' knowledge of the future was of great help in rapidly developing the company into a very profitable business enterprise. I don't think he mentioned that in his seminars.
Unfortunately, things happen when you mess with time. It becomes a bit more difficult to predict... and almost as soon as it rose, Goldstar Inc. was bankrupt, and exists almost in name only.
This newfound celebrity status led Booster Gold to his first meeting with his idol, Superman, when a young boy and an alien sought assistance for a galactic civil war. Booster was disappointed, but not surprised, when Superman openly disapproved of his for-profit approach to heroics.
But now, the Man of Steel is sadly no more. Can Booster find redemption by becoming the hero of Metropolis? Well... you can't really redeem yourself to a dead guy. Maybe he could feel better about it? Or at least get another book deal, maybe even with a movie option this time.
Complications:
Recognition: Though the public still favors him, Booster has perhaps the worst reputation among his peers. In fact, most other heroes wouldn't call him one of their peers. Or a hero, for that matter.
Redemption: Booster has let down a lot of people in his life so far... from sports fans to Superman. This is a serious motivation for his heroics, even though he gets distracted by his own fame.
Poor Judgement: Some people learn from their mistakes. Some people take... a really long time to learn from their mistakes. Booster is definitely in the latter category. Desperate for fame and fortune, he can easily find himself knee-deep in a publicity stunt or get-rich-quick scheme that goes terribly wrong.

The actual mechanics of DCA are M&M 3e -- to the degree that once the M&M3e book is published, you won't need to buy it if you already have DCA. The mechanics are identical.
M&M 2e is similar, but they're not really directly compatible.
Which would be AWESOME.

But now, the Man of Steel is sadly no more. Can Booster find redemption by becoming the hero of Metropolis? Well... you can't really redeem yourself to a dead guy. Maybe he could feel better about it? Or at least get another book deal, maybe even with a movie option this time.
Complications:
Hiding In Plain Sight aka Secret Time Cop aka Reverse Secret Identity: Booster's time traveling actually does extend beyond the fame bit. Sure, it started that way. But recently Booster's mission has changed and his adventures (not in this run; i mean it's called 'Metropolis' and there's someone with an S on their chest) may take him through time and space to keep reality itself in place. It's not as though he's ever 'gone' when he does this. He may enter the time stream with Skeets, be there the equivalent of a week, and then pop back to a microsecond after he left the present day. Needless to say, when you're dealing with people who would like to launch a nuclear missile at Kara Zor-El (or Kara Zor-L, for that matter) while her lil spaceship cradle is headed to earth you can not let them suspect that you might be the guy who would stop them. So, he does what he does best to cover for it: make a complete and total ass out of himself. It's working: if you told some nefarious time hopper to 'watch out for Booster Gold' he would probably die laughing.
Poor Judgement / Impulsive: Some people learn from their mistakes. Some people take... a really long time to learn from their mistakes. Booster is definitely in the latter category. He can easily find himself knee-deep in a publicity stunt or get-rich-quick scheme that goes terribly wrong. He might rush to judgement and attempt to do the right thing -- only to find out that he's only made it worse. Booster's impulse control has gotten him into a lot of bad situations... though occasionally it helps him stop a situation before it gets out of control.
The Blue Beetle: Ted Kord is the future best friend of Booster Gold. Booster knows this, Ted does not. Booster is not sure why (it's hard to tell sometimes if Skeets is holding back information) but he knows that Ted is an important person in history. He tries to keep tabs on the activities of Gotham City's new oddly-themed costumed crimefighter.

That way, my character can be the Green Lantern for Earth without having to be Hal or Guy or whatever.

Weakness: Green Lantern power rings depend on the willpower of the wearer; the maximum rank of the ring's effects is equal to the wearer's Will rank, and moments of self-doubt or hesitation can cause the ring to fail.
Power Loss: The power ring needs periodic recharging and issues a warning as its power runs low.
Temper: Valerie has an awful temper; she's able to keep it under control most of the time, but when she fails, she lashes out in an epic way.
Reputation: During the Blackest Night, Valerie was deputized as a Lantern -- a Red Lantern. She was there to help put Nekron down and end the Black Lantern threat, but people question whether she can really live up to being a Green Lantern, and many believe she's just a liability.
Enemy: Valerie has inherited Hal Jordan's laundry list of enemies, including the Sinestro Corps and the Red Lantern Corps, among others.
