I want to snag me a domain name. [Solved]

But I am merely a child when it comes to websites.
I'm not looking to build anything yet, I just want the domain name reserved in case I ever get around to it (get someone else to do it). It's for my brewclub, if you're interested. I mean, Tumblr is cool and all, but my club members and I were talking about getting the name reserved in case we ever register the club.
What would be the simplest and, preferably, cheapest way to purchase a domain name? GoDaddy? Looks like they have new .coms for 12 bucks a year. Is that a solid price?

Pretty much, I mean if you're ready to start the site a lot of web hosts will throw in the domain name for free.
Also, make sure you spring for either the domain privacy or manually edit your whois info.
Otherwise all the information you give them (name, address, phone, etc) will be what anyone who does a whois lookup on your domain name will find.
I mean it doesn't really matter, but it's easy to avoid.

Right, about my whois info.
Can I put in false information? Like my name and address and phone? Or is that discouraged?
Eh, never mind, I'm just paying for the privacy thing.

you don't have to. You can pay a few extra bucks a year and the whois info will be that of your domain registrar. IE, if you used go-daddy or dreamhost, the whois would have their po box and and phone. It's not iron-clad - they still have to give up your real info on subpoena, or to DHS, for example, but it totally defeats a casual whois.

Done and done. I didn't mean to, but apparently with GoDaddy if you go to checkout with no whois privacy settings, they'll offer to knock off 3 bucks a year for it. So I got privacy for 7 bucks instead of 10.
HopToNoGood.com is now mine apparently.

Why thank you. Our logo is a skull and cross bones, but with a beer bottle and a hop vine instead of the bones.
Just don't make it a rotating animated gif and I'll check out your site. : )
He's right that's so old school. Make it a flashing animated gif with embeded midis, then you'll have the most supercool site ever.
For anyone else interested I would say that GoDaddy is good, I've had no problems with them, and I'm sure there are other good ones. But Network Solutions are on the "I'll never use their service again" list for me. Because of subpar customer service.

Whether they find a life there or not, I think Jupiter should be called an enemy planet.
