I'm going to get a new monitor for my computer. Any advice? I'm thinking of getting this one from Newegg (it comes in #1 as their highest rated monitor):

Newegg is pretty reliable. Five stars at 1200+ reviews is a pretty good bet.
The only thing to remember is that with most hardware and electronics, you get about what you pay for.
So, so true.
I picked up an Acer 23" monitor for ~$169 this past winter. The specs are pretty good, but...it has some issues. The power button is temperamental and it tends to make a high pitched whine at certain ambient temperatures, ie too warm/too cold=mosquito buzzing sound. For another $20, I could have gotten a different brand that probably wouldn't have been so touchy.

Really? I've got an Acer, about the same size (no idea how much, Christmas present and all) and I've never had an issue with it.

Could just have been a fluke with my particular one. When I got mine, my brother got one a few days later to replace his aging monitor that had an alarming number of dead pixels. His works without any kind of hitch and has given no problems whatsoever. Identical models, probably from the same manufacturing batch, even.
Had a pretty quick response time, looked nice, plus it was big and easy on the eyes. The 27 is very close in price. In hanns-g brand, I believe the 27 is only 299 from the egg.
That Hans-G model seems to be larger and have better stats but the same price as the ASUS model. Would I be better off purchasing the Hans-G over the ASUS?
Would it help to know what video card I have? (Not much, just this cheap-o model.)

It might cost a bit more but it's well worth paying a little extra for an LED backlit one. Smooth even backlighting, thin, and take almost no power. Gorgeous.

I've had the VH232H for about 6 months now and I love it. Looks great, doesn't have any dead pixels that I've seen, and has been great for gaming. I have my PC hooked up through DVI, and I also have my Xbox 360 hooked up through HDMI. My only complaints are if you're using the 360 and switch to DVI, when you switch back to HDMI it resets the 360, but I think that's more the 360's fault, but it's something to keep in mind. Also, the button labels are hard to read, so it can be a little frustrating at first unless you have good lighting in the room. The other thing is that it's hard to mess with the connections unless you can easily rotate the monitor base or get behind it. It's not a big deal for me since I don't mess with them much, but it's there. Some of these may just be with flat panel monitors in general, as this was my first coming from a large CRT.
I absolutely love this line of ASUS monitors. The LED backlight makes the screen really vibrant, and the unique base is far more stable than any other monitor I've used.
