Sorry about that, I went to take my turn but when I did, it said I didn't have all the required DLC (I think it was the wonders one), so instead of holding up the game with even the turn timer, I figured this is the first one I would toss a surrender in. I meant to tell you last night but you had already logged off (understandably so, gotta sleep sometime you night owl).
I'm new around here and I really dig Civ 5 (although I'm not very good at it)! I read some postings in this topic (not all though, haven't had the time yet) and this is the first time I heard about GMR. I'm very interested in trying it out so if you are looking for people for a new game via GMR, I'm in

Hey sorry Shimshai, I'm in the same boat as Wolvie - missing one DLC (I think mine is explores map pack? or maybe the Wonders one as well), and had the same thought process of quitting rather than delaying. I would definitely be down for an interior sea map though!
I recently won this game in a Steam Gifts giveaway and am loving it. After reading the first few posts in this thread from two years ago, there are some negatives. Have those been fixed?
Also, I found this awesome TES mod on Steam Works and downloaded it, but cannot get it to work.

The game is barely the same as it was two years ago, so much has been changed or patched or added in that time.
Very much so from the multiplayer - it took far too long to get the Windows and Mac version work together. Also, not hangups and crashes anymore for a long time and the performance also got better.
THE G&K expasion fixes a large amount of the initial issues through adding additional options. Although most of the bugs etc were fixed in patches in the vanilla version as well if you don't have G&K.
Man I have been so incredibly bad about GMR. Sorry to anyone in my games. My current living/work situation has me out of town literally every weekend.
One of these days we need to get another live game going. I am so out of practice, but there was something magic about playing in real time. Has the multiplayer proper gotten any love at all? What game time I have has been consumed by Xcom and I am dated on my post G&K civ-fu.
That Steam Punk scenario is pretty boss, and I guess now GMR supports the scenarios so it could be a good candidate for a multiplayer game. The two times I played it, both games were decided pretty quickly.
I would be up for some live games again. Havn't really been playing normal G&K, so i should properbly try that singlweplayer first

I've love to get some more simultaneous multiplayer games played. Anybody up for playing a game this weekend? The weekend after that is out for me, and after that my free time is going to be a lot more limited.
Yep, 8 hours seems the minimum. Haven't tried G&K multi yet, so it might be faster than that since the biggest time sink is the computer trying to change turns.

The last game we played ( which was just about when G&K was about to be released) wasn't too bad in terms of downtime between turns. Definitely much faster than it had been for many of our previous games.
Plus, allowing combat animations and movement animations made combat a lot less confusing, and less of an RTS at the same time.

I'd love to give a live game a shot again. GMT-10 now though, so not sure how realistic that'll actually be.
I'd be up for it, too. But I'm not very good, so I don't think I'd be much of a challenge.

@Bevilr There was a bit of weirdness while trying to submit my turn for the Vanilla PA Civ game. I hope it's ok now, but let me know if there are any problems with it.
So like, if you were in any way serious about wanting to do a simultaneous turn game today, get in the Penny Arcade Civilization group chat on Steam ASAP. Going to send out a bunch of invites and then let's get this show on the road to nukes and stuff.
If anyone wants to join late, you easily hot join in at any point and take over for a vacant civ. I believe Spain, Incas, Songhai and the Iroquois are all free at the moment. Not sure how much longer Iroqious will be around for though.

With almost 300 hours played, I can safely say that I like Civ 5 better than Civ 4. I just can not play against humans, though. There are times I need 10 minutes for a single turn and people are just not into waiting for that.
I started a game using the extended eras mod. It's pretty awesome. Unit and building costs are normal, but sci costs are much much higher. It's great, you should check it out.

I agree with your statements and will check out this extended eras mod, thank you. I'm one of those people who enjoys long games where warfare evolves slowly and you can really sink your economy into the ground prior to getting access to the bigger, more expensive tech stuff down the line. Makes things more interesting.

I knew my time zone would making get in on a live game difficult, but this post was at 4:37am for me. I like Civ and playing with other people and all, but...

I'm currently in four games on GMR and like to get into more. Got G&K e few moths ago, but have only really tried the Steam Punk scenario.
If anybody needs people for a game I'm in the steam group.
