I'm kind of burned out on standard Slayer/CTF/Headhunter games. What other gametypes should I try out?
Invasion can be really fun if you co-ordinate a little bit with your team. I like the shift in fighting styles as the round progresses.
Invasion is fun, but it's hardly ever chosen when I'm in a big party.
Is Multi-team the arena thing? Not a big fan either, since there's always going to be the pair of douchebags who camp out while hoarding shotguns and swords.
Short form: to score an assist, deal 40% of the damage on a subsequently killed player before their shields can recharge to 95%, or before they can stay safely out of fire for five full seconds. url=http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?cid=28836]Source[/url
I will have to watch videos but I swear I have put four shots into people and not gotten an assist after my teammate sniped them in the head.
Maybe I don't understand this quite right but does a sniper head shot then negate assists since it will likely do too much damage for you to get 40 percent without getting the kill?
I find that grenades on territories that are being capped plus a competent team equals assists assists and assists with a side of unending enemy frustration.
On a side note I hope British David has some video of the killtaculars we got in rumble pit because that was hilarious.

It wasn't even the lag that made generator defense un-fun, it had more to do with the fact it wasn't a compelling gametype.
Assault is the same basic game mode, and doesn't require you to babysit a fragile machine.
For me, a big part of it not being that great was not having enough people to cover the generators. Invasion makes sense; split the team between objectives and shift only if and when you need to.
Generator Defense was just constantly running back and forth between generators because there weren't enough players. So except for the last generator, it was mostly just a matter of time until the generators were destroyed. I much prefer Invasion where there are enough people to cover everything and the game escalates rather than just ending.

The update coming on the 19th is going to make firefight a full set affair instead of one round and no more friendly firefire in it.
And crash site is being removed from score attack which makes me sad, I'd just started enjoying it.
So, how do you actually play Firefight VS? Is it a 2 on 2 mode, or what?
Yeah, two of the guys are Elites on the side with all the Covies, and you're trying to kill the Spartans.
And Spartans last like.. 2 seconds.
It's not even a contest.
So it is 2vs2? That's kinda stupid, it should be a full 4v4, with the Elites being slightly weaker than a normal player Elite

So exactly how would I reach Bungie to send them a video of how easily Elites can dominate Invasion Spire? Because I've got a 4-5 minute clip where I easily hold down the entire left flank of the Elite side (looking from the Spartan side) almost solo plus suppress the Spartans in their own spawn and partially on the other side of the map as well. Did it with one needle rifle, one needler, and no deaths. In fact, the Spartans just gave up on my side of the map because there was no reasonable way for them to get through without getting hit coming and going.
And like I said, the pistols are nearly useless against the Elites on the rocks because for every 2 or 3 Spartans firing at an Elite, there are two or three Elites killing the Spartans. The pistols simply can't reach far enough; by the time the Spartans get into a decent firing range with the pistols, they are also in range of needlers, plasma repeaters, and plasma rifles. And all the Elite has to do for safety is back up a few steps, reposition, and hit Spartans not looking at him. I don't think I even completely lost my shields the entire round; the biggest danger I faced was running out of ammo.
I've played quite a few rounds of Invasion Spire, and haven't seen this once

I can't claim the enemy team was the best ever, but they were decent enough to keep my team from capturing the core in the previous round so they weren't completely terrible. You can watch the film if you want but it's kind of long and relatively unexciting (you'll have to download it to your 360 to watch it):
It's pretty clear that a 2-3 minutes into the round, the Spartans just give up on the side of the map I'm on and try to just not get shot while going to the other side of the map. And since they can't get through on my side, that means they get funneled into the meat grinder on the other side where most of my team was waiting. One single guy does make it through to the point I'm defending early on in the game, but he's quickly dealt with. No one else manages to get near that point for the rest of the match.
This is actually about the worst I've seen this tactic shut down an enemy team, but I'm seeing it more often than not when I play Spire Invasion now. A couple Spartans try to take me down with pistols a couple times, but they simply can't kill me in that spot and I can easily hit them back with the needle rifle. I don't even kill that many guys, but there was just nothing the enemy team could do to counter my positioning. If they look up to fight me, they get killed be a teammate. If they ignore me, they get needled.
Maybe it wouldn't be that big a deal with PA players (or maybe it would be even worse against much better Elites), but for playing with random people the tactic makes the map pretty heavily one-sided. I still can't believe Bungie put the Spartan spawn in the middle of a field and then gave the Elites a bunch of needle rifles.
Based on my purely anecdotal recollection, I'd say shutouts on Boneyard happen about 30% more often than Spire. This is including shutouts we've done, as well as the other team.

Boneyard doesn't have a great setup either; in fact, it's pretty much the same problem as people are learning about on Spire. The big difference is that with Boneyard, the attacking team is a bunch of Elites who have superior abilities, speed, and shields and that nobody even had to figure out that they could climb up on something to shoot the Elites at their spawn. The Spartans start at a high vantage point with a clear view, so there's nothing to figure out.
If I had to choose between being on the attacking team on the two maps, I'd take Boneyard at least for the initial two phases. Elites already move at nearly Spartan sprinting speed, Evade gets you out of the open pretty quick, and once the Elites start mixing it up in the upper level then the Spartans have to start ignoring the guys spawning out in the field. On Spire, the Elites can just keep fighting from on top of the rocks and have easy cover and vantage points to most of the available map.
I've been slacking on the challenges lately. Now they will be my sworn duty...
They say they're going to put up a meter at some point that says how much further to go, but that at this rate it will be some time in november when it's reached.

I am eager to contribute to filling even more bars. I love filling bars.
I may have time for a match or two after this movie, but I doubt it. Hopefully there won't be a truck tonight so I'll be home just in time to grind challenges.

I'm game if you are.
As a double entendre, I'm in the mood for Reach now but nobody's on.

Full update notes are in the BWU.
Edit: Score attack is still one round but 15 minutes. Crash site is being replaced by mythic score attack and will return sometime in the future.

Damn you Bungie!
