Turning a webcam into a security camera

Hey, so long story short, just moved into a new place with 2 old friends and 2 new people and things have been disappearing. Sooo is there an easy way within windows or a program (preferably freeware) that I could set up my old webcam to either take pictures when it detects motion? Really would like to have evidence before I start accusing certain people of stealing.
