Ok, so, the more I think about it, the more it seems that Unusual Hats are a curse rather than a blessing. I mean, this is a shooter game. Logically, the last thing you want to do is stand out like a sore thumb.
Besides standing out, I imagine it would make you a target by people who are jealous of having an unusual hat. I mean, look at these cocky motherfuckers, don't you just want to shoot them?
Wow, those artpass maps are bad. Just ran though them. Too much is going on. Not TF2 at all.
They have a lot more detailing than most official TF2 maps. I wouldn't necessarily say that makes them bad though.
Hopefully I don't sound like an asshole when I explain this, but as someone with a background in art and advertising, it's defiantly not considered a good thing. It called focal points. In my opinion, these maps lack defined focal points. In fact, they have too many, the maps are screaming all over, look at me, look at me, look at me. If you've ran through the Valve commentary, they talk about this and about how they try to make the outside of the maps bland and unappealing, so that you're eye do no focus there, therefore the player has no desire to go there.
Both of these maps draw attention to the out side of the map, way too much in my opinion. It seems like there was no focus on keeping the attention on the inside of the map. As a mapper you really want to draw the players eyes to the inside of the map to the direction you want the players to take (ie to a cp, pl final point, ctf room, etc). It is the same as looking at a painting with too many colors or too much going on, your eyes fight where to look, which is why I think I had a headache after playing them last night.
are there any PA TF2 servers that are chill with no sperglords constantly tellin folks how to play and no whinin' about losing
I try them every few months and every time I am disappointed
I don't think those servers exist.
For any game.
oh there are plenty of chill TF2 servers, I can assure you
I played for a while last night and everyone was pretty cool about it, the only complaining coming when one team would get steamrolled. There would be a comment about 'too many snipers' but that was 'bout it.
It's a big difference, PA servers vs. Public servers. I did a pub the other night and man was that a mistake. The gameplay itself was okay, but the people were annoying as hell. When I play pubs I have to just tune people out, pretend they're all bots or something.
I haven't TF2'd much lately so I was quite terrible myself until I went back to my comfort zone (medic) and did alright. I even got in a few bonesaw kills which is rare for me. But even when I was playing a terrible pyro/engineer nobody really complained.

That's the interesting thing though; TF2 doesn't need to draw the eye to focal points on the map after the first playthrough. It's distinct from other graphical works in that most maps, after the first playthrough, you know where you're going and where you're focusing on by the player activity that you're expect to be going on there, rather than the map detail.
If it were a poster, for example, I would agree completely.

I've honestly found the quality of play about the same on pubs and the voicechat usually the same or better. one thing I can't stand is alltalk. I think the pubs associated with communities are usually the best; CouchAthletics, Elder's Pub, Reddit are all great and people who sperg are usually shouted down or kicked.
One thing I am happy about with the artpass maps, is the one non Halloween map that valve is picking up has a lot of the swamp props in it that are in Moonshine, which means Valve had to purchase those. So hopefully this means it would be a lot easier for them to purchase moonshine, now that they don't have to worry about spending all the money on all the extra props. I was told that this was the one thing I was told might hold it up from being picked up, by someone in contact with Robin.

The PA TF2 servers are what they are and there's very few PAers who refuse to play on one server or another.
Yeah, the servers can be loud and annoying, I'm a big offender in that area, but I think it'd be hard to surpass the sense of community we have. All-talk may have its disadvantages but it's a great way to taunt one's opponents and just have fun in general.
It sucks you're disappointed but variety is the spice of life and all that.

Is anyone else having troubles trying to play TF2 this week? My game won't load into ANY server of any kind. It keeps getting stuck at Parsing Game Info. Its weird because it worked perfectly last week.

Not I.
You said you were getting stuck at "Parsing Game Info", does that happen when you load a map via the console(map map_name) or create a server from the main menu? If you do create a server, you could have a friend try to connect to it, and see how that goes.
If either of those load a map successfully, the problem might be with not getting data from the servers you're trying to play on. You want to make sure you've got all the necessary ports open on your router.
Also, how are you connecting to the internet? If you're on a college network, for instance, they may be blocking the ports.

I have fun screaming like a little girl over all talk as people kick my ass. And nerd raging.
Yikes, traded more than I wanted to, but I now have every hat I want. Still have a Billycock and an Old Guadalajara that are taking up space which I'll trade away for two refined each
Oh god that could've been so much worse. I was not fully there and it was my first time playing any l4d ever. I very distinctly remember flipping my shit a few times.
