Do you take extra item durability loss when you die? I had a newly-equipped lvl 25 Ash M-word sword. I took it and died a few times doing a behest, grinded jellies for about an hour with Saefal, then realized that the sword is already at about 20% durability.
Did it wear faster because I was only level 16-18 at the time? Too underleveled?
I can't repair it myself and can't be bothered to find someone to repair it every ~2 hours. =/

That is pretty low. Check your attack stat when you equip it, is it even an improvement over your last weapon? If not, stick with the old one until the new one is better. When I equipped a 20 scepter at 16, it was the same attack power as my old weapon until I leveled to 17.
It won't scale on the weapon's stat page, but you'll see the difference in your attributes page.

I don't know if you take increased durability hits but the issue where you are having trouble repairing it is one of the main reasons why I only try to use equipment that is at most 3 levels above me. You see it a lot on people where they are level 15-16 and wearing level 25-35 stuff. Not only are you not getting the full stat bonuses from the equipment but you are dealing with repair costs that are usually far above your wallet at that level.
Unless you are cornering the market or something in which case you have gil to burn .
But in general it is usually best to stick with equipment around your Rank.

I was getting a small attack boost from using the higher ranked sword but probably not enough to justify it. I'll go back to my Bronze Dagger until I am beefy enough to use the new sword appropriately.
Thanks guys

If you can find me (Mheso Ngati) online, you can have a Silencing Dagger +1; the effect won't be really relevant to you at that level, but it's an r14 +1 weapon and should hold you over until the next tier of daggers at 24.

Hey guys! I'm really enjoying the mechanics of the game thus far, though I'm still battling with the UI a bit, and getting accustomed to how the guilds/jobs/classes things work!
My character is Icewind Avalon, and I'm currently an archer, yet after a few more levequests I'll have enough to start dabbling in other weapons, and I can finally start crafting!
We're still trying to figure out how to optimize SP under the new system. What we did learn is that 4 or 5 is the optimal party size, although there are some areas and mobs that can sustain more people, ants for example.
I have not been on in the last few days due to a machine problem. My video card has developed an overheating issue and I'm just going to replace the machine. I'm taking a week off XIV to do some overtime at work and fund this project. I'll see you guys in little while.
Lucky for us he's not a catgirl though. No Catgirls Left Behind.

heh.
So people are asking me if I am every going to "start playing the game".
I've played a lot of MMOs. A LOT. And in no MMO I have ever played, have I ever got a character to max level. Only 1 have I ever participated in what may be thought of as end game content. 'Beating the game' isn't why I play. It is usually to hang out and chat with people I like to chat with, with some pretty graphics and lots of diversions in the process.
I enjoy sweeping vistas more than whacking on monsters. I always will. I got a rank in gladiator this evening, but... yay.
I have my fun my way. My way just isn't much of anyone else's way.

Bri, no worries man. I have Rank cap in my sights but i'm not a serious grinder either. I rather forgo a serious grind session to level my lower rank job with a group in the Linkshell members. If I get to Pgl 50 by this time next year ill be ok with that. I think the biggest reason i enjoy the game so much is because i don't take it too seriously.
On another note. If anyone is planning on not coming back after SE starts charging us monies can you log in please and give the LS your shards/crystals and materials? All of us that still play have made gear for just about everyone so your donation would be well appreciated.

I don't have issue with anyone playing the game how they want. However, from my vantage point (which may be wrong, it's not like I'm on all the time), it doesn't seem like you play very often. With the absolutely stupid way that linkshells are "managed" by this game it's made even more difficult if the linkshell master isn't available. We have members that are on almost every day, it might make sense to make one of them the linkshell master (not me).
I know that you've been playing recently, and if that trend continues than these points are really moot.

Yes, I am logging in more often, but I think you are attributing more power to the Shell holder than one has. The only thing I can do that no one else can is promote so that others can invite people into the shell. Before yesterday there were 11 shell officers, which is nearly 1/5th of the members of the newest shell. That should be plenty enough for anything that needs doing, especially so as to get any new people into the shell.
I honestly can't wait until they patch in Companies. Maybe then we will have some actual functionality. Right now it doesn't matter much because no matter who is logged in or not logged in there are no social networking tools to speak of anyway.

Just as an FYI, I am still on Wutai but don't see myself as a part of WANG with its current roster. I guess I just don't feel like I really fit in with the vocal majority and the people who got invited so we'd have high level X crafter in the shell, and having LS chat turned off has made the game more enjoyable for me (as my absence from said LS chat has probably made the game more enjoyable for some of you!).
I adore the game and if you need anything feel free to send me a tell, I'll be staying after SE starts charging so you can't have my stuff. :P
I think the only thing left in this game that is a pain in the ass has to be the repair system. Shouting in a city for a repair is the opposite of fun.

Yeah, it's a total pain in the ass, but unfortunately, it's the one thing I don't think they see as broken atm, so it probably has little to no chance of changing. Meanwhile, I just watched someone botch a repair 3 times in a row, offered my assistance and was soundly ignored. So it's just as frustrating going the other direction
Anyway, I've pretty much just taken to NPCing any repairs I can't do myself (so basically all of my gear except my hammers Gil is plentiful enough with leves and my time is precious, so I figure it just really doesn't matter that much if i'm only getting to 75%... the extra time it would take to get to 100% means less time actually playing.

Oh I agree. I do think repairs should stay in as a gil sink but ditch the PC repairs. It isn't something you hear alot but as the game goes on I think it could be a big complaint.

I've started making some of the nicer looking iron armors
Sadly, it'll be a month at best before I can do the gauntlets or sabatons to match. I could make mitt gauntlets and cavalry sollerets though, but they don't look as nice.

I haven't really had much trouble with it. Generally, when I finish up for the night and I need repairs, I'll go stand by the repair NPC with my bazaar full of my damaged goods, leave FFXIV running, and go to bed.
When I get up in the morning, my gear is as right as rain!

True, on the weekends, if I just walk over there, and /say "Repairs needed, Goldsmith, Weaver, Leatherworker. Reward in bazaar!" I'll get repairs before my coffee is done.
I have yet to get a repair done in under an hour. Every time I shout put it in my bazaar. Offer near npc price, usually I end up waiting for about an hour then just npc repair it as I don't want to wait anymore.

Shouting might be the issue, that color of font can get lost in the tradeskill spam. Try a /say while you are in the repair area. YMMV, of course.
Offering crystals / shards rather than gil (and advertising such) interests people more. I offer about 10k/ piece of armor or 3-4 crystals and stuff gets repaired real quick.
