There's at least 5 M rated 3DS games that have retail releases so that doesn't make any sense at all.

I think it has more to do with the fact that Phoenix Wright is a niche title with a devoted fanbase.
So cutting out the retail part, you save a lot of money on overhead and get a bigger share of the profits without negatively affecting your sales all that much.

I had basically given up hope on ever getting this, maybe they might've reconsidered depending on how well Ace Attorney 5 does. All the better that we're getting it regardless.
Cleared Gyakuten Saiban 5 last week. It was okay. Better than 4 but not as good as 2-3. Or Kenji 1-2 for that matter. There're more hints and less "I know what's going on but don't know which stupid evidence piece I'm supposed to present at this particular point" bullshit, like Kenji 2. I really liked the transition to 3D; The characters don't just look right, they even move right.
Examining evidence for stuff returns... once. You literally use it only once in the entire game. I'm taking this to mean they built up the system for use in sequels.

Also Mitsurugi and Harumi barely existed and felt like they were only in the game at all so that they could put them in promotional stuff and say that they're in the game. Minuki doesn't get much screentime either. Garyuu only gets a cameo and doesn't even get a turn as prosecutor. Akane is gone completely. Felt a bit like how Mei was handled in 3, too many recurring characters for them to fit in convincingly.
Well the question is, does it have a good villain? Because to me, that is the only reason why the 4th game was not as enjoyable (aside the stage-clip...).

That said...I thought the bonus episode in AA1 kind of sucked even if it had some nifty parts to it so who know.
Also do we have any information about that Ace attorney/Layton crossover game that was released ages ago? Is it ever coming to NA/EU?

Personally Kenji 2 > Saiban 3 > Kenji 1 > Saiban 2 > Saiban 5 = Saiban 1 > Saiban 4.
